I have reason to believe that it won't be Resident Evil simply because it's such an obvious and commonly discussed choice. The only "no brainer" pick in the pass so far has been Banjo, and even then you could argue that Steve or Master Chief would've made more sense to include as the Microsoft rep.

Fighter #5 is going to surprise people.

I don’t think that’s entirely correct. Dragon Quest wasn’t on the minds of people here, but it absolutely should have been a no brainer.

The biggest surprise was Joker. Terry has the legacy, but isn’t as well known. Those at least I agree with.

Me personally I'm on the camp of the Resident Evil crew, if I had to specifically choose one then it's Leon.

I personally feel like Professor Layton is slept on a lot...

Me personally I'm on the camp of the Resident Evil crew, if I had to specifically choose one then it's Leon.

I’ve been riding the Hayabusa train since the start, so I can’t really guess who it is now. I feel like it could very well be Lloyd, Ezio, or an immediate refund though.

I'm assuming you meant objectionably hype reveals, right?

Cuz a good chunk of these were most certainly surprises

most people thought Bayo was impossible due to her sexual nature.

Duck Hunt was just so out there as a concept

Fates wasn't even out in the west at the time of Corrin's reveal

and most people were banking on Decidueye as our Sun and Moon Pokemon, not Incineroar

Also, if you are gonna count the unlockables with Duck Hunt, you missed R.O.B. aka another crowd shocker

Tbh, Olimar was ahead of his time when it came to hype. Like, when Brawl was out, Pikmin was considered a B-Tier franchise, and by the time of Smash 4, people were clamouring for Alph to be seperate because of how Popular it became.

Now, we're joking that Pikmin 4 is in the same location as the Metroid Fusion sequel.

People say that the last character is non hype because they expect the last character to be the last shot at what THEY want so when THAT character isn't THEIR character it's immediately unhype because of reasons.

Like, people say Shulk was an unhype way to end Smash 4 speculation while I'm in the corner with my little friend group losing my ****ing ****.

Edit: **** I was hype as ****ing hell with Inceneroars trailer and I wasn't even SUPER into him, it was more of finally seeing a good ass good looking 3D Ken.

verge says ryu isn't number 5 but that he thinks discussions for him being DLC leaked, although he can't 100% say if ryu is coming or not

So I'd say it looks pretty good for ryu, in general

Duck Hunt is legit one of my favorite newcomers introduced in Smash 4.

They're just so wacky and fun and their moveset is a fantastic homage to the NES Zapper's library.

There's that, but like


Who actually predicted that Bayo, a character from a series that was REALLY pushing the M rating to being a nipple away to an AO rating, would get into Smash. Like, how isn't that hype on surprise factor alone.

With that said, I do agree when it's disappointing when your most wanted doesn't get in, but I'm always a moveset > character type of guy. For example, I love Luigi as a character, favorite in all of gaming, and yet, I haven't mained him since Melee because he became a severe one note gimmick character after it, if that makes sense

I still love how the trailer was setp up. Corrin set a pretty bad tone and when Pit was on screen I thought it was just gonna be some Kid Icarus character. And then Bayonetta happens and I'm like "WHAT?!? You got me!". I love that reveal because it felt like it was tricking you for a little bit.

Obviously some might say I’m biased, but I simply can’t see Ultimate not getting one of Resident Evil’s Leon/Jill/Chris and Devil May Cry’s Dante.

They’re just that big and recognizable. Even removing the company, Resident Evil is a behemoth of a series, and regardless of your feelings on the series, would more or less seem...missing, if it didn’t have ANY presence in the “greatest crossover in gaming”. Dante, meanwhile, has an incredible personality and provides Smash the meme of, “Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series”.

I just can’t see a situation in which neither get in.

Edit: Doesn’t mean Phoenix Wright wouldn’t be hype. He could very well get in, but I’d be very surprised if neither of those previous two got in.

I think it has to do with Palutena's animation having much more work put into it.
