What's the point of holding off reveals just to release two fighters at the same time? You'd want each DLC character to have their time under spotlight, not share it with someone else.

Plus, this theme thing limits the character choices for no reason.

Yeah, I’m someone who doesn’t believe in themes.

I just imagine Nintendo and Sakurai going with the picks they could license or found strongly fitting.

Something which honestly can be impossible to guess from our perspective as a whole.

When it's time for Nintendo/Sakurai to talk about the next batch of DLC fighters, do you want them to reveal all characters from the get go or space them out again like the first Fighters Pass?

It won't happen, but I want them to reveal all the characters at the same time. Then I won't have to wait months to see if I'm disappointed or not.

The trailer opens with a television screen showing off all of the stuff that Nintendo made, like the Ultra Hand, Love Hotels, probably the Ten Billion Barrel, as the trailer goes on, the timeline that’s transparent slowly moves the camera upwards until it stops at the end of the timeline at something silhouetted, and the TV turns off.

The camera opens up to show The smash envelop laying on a wooden table, a bit dusty and tired. A sound of a person walking towards it appears, and we can only see his shadow over the envelope.

As he picks it up, and speaks some random quote, the camera slowly moves upwards to reveal a man looking similar to that of Napoleon (Like the cover of the hanafuda cards), and then they reveal his face. The camera zooms oUT, he strikes some pose, and the title says.

“HANAFUDA GAMBLES ON!”

Then the Smash Ultimate logo shows, then having a “Smash Ultimate X (the logo you probably see on the box of the old hanafuda cards).

Then the trailer ends.

This is pretty much the exact reveal trailer for Daitoryo I thought of a long time ago. It'd make sense, since it would start off showing Nintendo did other things before creating video games, and it would end off on the first thing they created.

Oh yeah, if you want to unlock certain characters faster than others, I suggest looking up the Classic unlock routes and the Smash mode unlock order (it's not random) so you know how to unlock them.

World of Light's super easy mode is a good idea if you want the extra menu themes and characters. Keep a guide on hand so you know where to look if you missed someone Ramen Tengoku

Like I'm speeding through WoL rn, and I'm not unlocking characters fast at all.

It is good for the music though.

I'd rather just have a fighter every two months than two fighters every four months. You don't get any benefits from holding them off like this as a producer or consumer. It's a lose-lose.

Yeah. My logic was that it kills two birds in one stone. If you want the fighters immediately, you're gonna have to work no matter what.

Hell, if I wanted more Nintendo characters as DLC Id be disappointed too.

But I want layton and he is never happening so Im disappointed all the time

If we're getting more new third party companies joining in then I think Level-5 has a decent shot in getting a character in there, their one of the companies that Nintendo has had a consistently good history and support with since the DS era and had pretty good character support during the fighter ballot period so I'm fairly sure they will consider them at least.

The only thing I'm kind of worried about is that they may end up prioritizing Yokai Watch over the Layton series though if they do get a character...
I guess I know now how Banjo fans must have felt last year and the first half of this year...

Man, I'm not even a Layton fan(though I have a sibling who is.) and that would a bit disappointing. Not to mention, out of all the Pokemon rivals to be added, and it ain't even Digimon?

Yeah I suppose it would make more sense to prioritize Layton first due to its international popularity, I think Sakurai himself stated that it may be only natural to prioritize the franchise that enjoys more widespread popularity, which was why Final Fantasy got a character before Dragon Quest.

But still, I suppose its best to be prepared for anything I guess...

I have heard that but I'm not sure if it's a sharp dip or just a "the hype wore off" one.

Remember those articles that though Pokemon was dead from after the first movie until Pokemon Go? Wondering if it's like that.

First person shooters are one of the big cornerstones of gaming in the west but niche in Japan (that's how you can tell PSASBR was made in the states) so there's a lot to take from there.

Doom
Half Life
Halo
Gears of War
Team Fortress 2
Overwatch
Bioshock
Borderlands

All of them have personality and a certain design to them.

Counterstrike, Call of Duty and Battlefield are massive but I don't think you can represent them as their "style" is to directly copy reality. Only character I can think of is Captain Price's moustache.

Theres a statement floating around from Furukawa about the crossover, and how they want to continue to expand on it and bring more fans in.

If the President of the company is expressing how the idea is to be more and more inclusive, it seems to me that continue 3rd party presence is likely coming from the top down, but that Sakurai has free reign over which 3rd parties.

I don’t find that surprising at all. Though, I don’t think it means everyone and anyone is fair game. Like, could he pick Fortnite? Sure. Will he? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Still think he’ll stick to franchises that will engage Nintendo fans in those IP, as well as bring in fans of those IP to Nintendo. It makes sense. It doesn’t mean 3rd party franchises that have more Nintendo presence than others don’t have a chance or something, but I think there’s something to be said about series that don’t have as much of a Nintendo following benefitting from this mindset.

That's probably what Nintendo are doing right now and allows Sakurai to pick certain characters as he deemed it to fitting in Smash Bros Universe.
