What if I made a 2D platformer?

Is such a thing even possible?
Maybe with the right team you could make up something completely dope.

Doh you could also find yourself like Toby Fox, who did Undertale mostly on his own.

That case isn’t sadly a common one doh, so the team assembly approach is overall suggested.

I’m making on right now, and trust me, it’s not as intimidating as it sounds. If you want some opinions...

Clickteam Fusion - Great for 2D, but doesn’t do 3D, making it kinda limited. Also costs dough.

Unity - Does 2D and 3D very well, and there’s loads of tutorials. Also free.

Unreal - I personally use Unreal, as it can handle a lot of different types of games and is completely free. If you are more art driven, I recommend trying blueprints. There are some great tutorials out there.

Anyone can claim to be a Capcom employee. This sounds a lot like a "My dad works as Nintendo and he said..." type situation.
Well, like I said. We don't have long till he's definitively proven wrong. Till then.... It'll just stay in the back of my head. And if it happens I will be really happy. If it doesn't, then no skin off my nose.

I'm downloading that SNES thing on the Switch.

I completely forgot what's on it but I'm sure it has SMBW on it, so that will do.

It is also worth to note that Undertale was made on gamemaker, which based on some reactions I’ve read is quite impressive.

Oh yeah, Gamemaker! From my understanding, it’s better than Clickteam, but can only handle 2D.

One thing is for sure doh.

If Noipoi managed to translate his art into videogame form, we would have something of top tier visual presentation.

Oh yeah.

Noipoi Noipoi , seeing as your are contemplating it, I say go for it. Try a bunch of different engines and see what works. There’s a lot of tutorials out there to help you grow. I mean, I knew nothing about gamedev, and now, in just 4 or so weeks, I’m working on my first game, and it’s coming out pretty darn well. The best advice I can give is, even if you feel like giving up, push yourself a little harder. Gamedev may not be your thing, and that’s totally cool, but try all that you can to make it work.

If I keep posting **** like this, people will start to believe that I'm bullying Terry fans.

I'm really not guys, I just think its funny.
It’s just a funny situation.

This is probably the only time in a Smash history where an actual fighter was overshadowed by a damn costume lmao

I would suggest so too Noipoi Noipoi , but mostly if you really want to give it a try.

Toby Fox is an awesome example of how the smallest of teams or even a single person at times could actually get pretty far with their creations if they have the skills, creativity and patience needed for doing so.

And honestly? If you really get the hand out of it you could actually create some great looking platformers for starters! Your art skills do seem to be of great help for you on the visual departure for any title you make.

Couldn't have worded it better myself.

Am I my the only one who cares more about a new fighter than a Mii Gunner costume?
I care equally for all the Smash Ultimate content that is to come.

Mostly since it can be both stuff I love such as Crash Bandicoot or Layton, stuff people I enjoy talking with kinda wanted to see such as Goemon representation or even stuff I wasn’t that aware of in the past but could make me interested on more videogames that would benefit from me giving them a chance.

You can make 3D games with Gamemaker so long as you buy the full version.

I've used Gamemaker in school and found it fairly robust and easy to use for 2D games. Didn't try out any of the paid version features though.

EDIT: Later versions of Gamemaker changed the free/paid model. Before there were features locked to the paid version but I think it's changed to have all features free but you're limited to the amount of content you can put in unless you pay.

I think I might have sequence broke ALTTP. I was suppossed to finish the desert dungeon after I got the Power Glove, but instead I died, went up to the Zora Waterfall, got the Zora Flippers, managed to find a secret cave inside a waterfall, and upgraded some of my weapons thanks to a Great Fairy.

Oops.

Interesting, didn't know you could do that!

Now that I think about it, I've never shared anything from my game here. Well, no time like the present.

Basically, this is a mock-up FNAF style arcade game. It's actually gonna have some fully animated cutscenes, and it'll have voice over as well. Keep in mind this is SUPER early footage.

Issue with Terry is that the gameplay we saw of him was only two special moves and only one section of his stage. If you don't got a connection with the guy, it's hard to really meme him or be excited. Meanwhile, Banjo and Sans are who we have to work with right now because they're physically out and playable.

You can do a lot with Terry other then freaking meme him to death and you can still be excited for him even with what was shown

Debating if I should main Sans or Banjo.

Banjo
  • Super fun to play
  • Great alts
  • I’m good as him
  • I don’t have to carry him over to a friend’s switch when playing
Sans
  • One of my favorite video game characters
  • He looks amazing
  • He’s hype as ****
  • It’s ****ing Sans

I bet you could. However, as someone who only played one KoF game years ago, it's hard for me to work with the guy while everybody else is focusing on Sans and Banjo--especially because I'm more familiar with Banjo and Undertale. They're out now and they're what my and many other interests are in.

I personally don't see the issue. If you're excited about him, great.

This is a really good interpretation of the character. It gives him that Oogie Boogie/Mr. Nezzer vibe. Can go from threatening to friendly like THAT. I’d say you just need to practice a bit more. Make it sound a bit more... natural. For a while it definitely sounded like you were reading from a script as opposed to just... talking. Which is what good vo work should sound like.

Also, editing note. The background music was too loud. Hard to hear your voice.

I do agree with the delivery but I already recorded everything and was kinda too lazy to do it all again

Like if Hero was anything to go by, people will start focusing on Terry when Sakurai shows his moveset off and releases him. Until then, it would be naive of me to just pretend that everybody wants to talk about Hero instead of Banjo. Well, at least in the west
