More difficulty options would be nice since the game is mostly a cakewalk. I'd also like to see the final boss receive some backstory since he's just kind of...there.

Nah, people would still complain if they looked/played similar. Remember when Wolf was added in Brawl and everyone initially complained because him sharing a final Smash with Fox and having similar specials made him the biggest clone in existence? Then there's Smash 4 when people were getting upset because the final two newcomers were Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt.

Opinions on design differs from person to person. Some people complain of too much anime, some complain of too many cereal box mascots.

In all seriousness, there aren't that many characters who resemble cereal box mascots.

= Fruit Loops
= Cookie Crisp
= Frosted Flakes
= Golden Crisp
= Cocoa Puffs
= Super Mario cereal

And some of these are pushing it. When people complain of "too many cereal box mascots", they really mean they don't want any cartoony animal characters. That basically rules out every Pokemon and Star Fox character in Smash.
