Eating candy without a license? For shame! I'm going to report you to the admins.
I'm very slowly chewing on a Whopper at you right now.

...the candy kind, not the burger kind. To clarify.

The amount of Banjo-Kazooie teasing is strong in this one.

I'm right now not expecting anything video game related to avoid disappointment.

I can't take the Background Music 2 theme from the Silver Surfer game on NES out of my head.

I am scared.

I just think Banjo is going to get the N Sane Trilogy treatment with his first two games. I'm inclining to believe Banjo is not a DLC character for this Pass, but maybe he'll be in Season 2 if it does happen.

Considering how Phil Spencer is in the third or fourth year of his efforts to revitalize the Xbox brand, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see something Banjo-Kazooie related at E3.

The only points against it are the fact that Battletoads (same sort of demographic) should be shown this year too, and Rare is hard at work on Sea of Thieves. They've been willing to let other companies work on Rare properties already though, so depending on how copyrights work, I could see them throwing the license to one of their newly acquired developers.

the real question is, do banjo fans actually want a banjo-threeie when basically none of the original developers work at rare anymore (especially with how yooka-laylee turned out just ok at best)

if banjo shows up again, i'm thinking it'll probably just be n. sane-style remasters

That's a problem with nostalgia. People don't know what they actually want from a game. They just want to relive their first experience of the game they already like.

B-K isn't a bad game, but you have to play it with the proper perspective, knowing how game design worked back then and how certain things were limited. You try and make that open-area collectathon with basic, imprecise platforming again and no one will like it. You have to evolve your control scheme, your objectives and your execution the way Mario has. But they don't have decades of experience making these platformers anymore. That's a hard ask.

Haven't touched it. I remember hearing about it but not much past that.
Yeah, they havn't been doing well with marketing it. I suspect due to lack of funds. It's basically a Street Fighter game using all of the characters Arika created for the Street Fighter EX games. Oh, and Terry Bogard. SNK apparently was down with this project.
Just bought it earlier today, waiting for it to download now.
It's on sale on PS4 for anyone else interested.
PLEASE take advantage of this sale! It's a really great Street Fighter-like made by really loving indie devs who are struggling to continue on with development. I for one, really want to see more from them, so all I can do is encourage you to BUY IT.

I think people more just want to see these characters come back in a way they remember from their childhood. I'd be perfectly fine with some other dev handling the game personally, but a lot of people want that full mile without realising how different Rare is.

Well, the thing you really need is good 3D platforming designers. You wouldn't even need the original Banjo designers either. Having specialized artists, programmers, etc etc aren't quite as important as the gameplay designers. For the most part at bigger studios, game developers are executing on a vision from higher up. As long as you have a creative director and lead game designer with a good vision for what the game should be, it could be great.

Yooka-Laylee was a very ambitious endeavor even ignoring the unreasonable expectations that its kickstarter put forth. It was a brand new studio that had to develop all of their technology from scratch again, which undoubtedly cost them a lot of iteration time on actual gameplay or level design. Gameplay problems that Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie failed to solve cropped back up again and remained in the game. Back then every single game was struggling with making a well-functioning 3D camera. Nowadays, having a bad camera isn't acceptable, and it showed a lot in Yooka-Laylee. Plenty of other issues too, that's just one example.

I'd even go so far as to say that having the original designers from B-K could be a detriment, as they may be less likely to innovate. The main question is, if there are good 3D platforming designers who live in the UK and aren't working elsewhere. If there aren't any.... kicking the project over to one of Microsoft's other subsidiaries (particularly if they had already demonstrated good 3D platforming on their previous games) could be the right play.

Considering Yooka WAS made by the original team, and most hardcore Banjo fans still love it to bits... Yes. If they get a team behind it as dedicated to and in love with the franchise as the Killer Instinct Reboot, then it will turn out fantastic. Rare probably won't make it anyway since they're still all in on Sea of Theives. God, how long is that game gonna last for!

FTR, I would take just about anything Banjo related. Be it a remake or a new game. Hell I would be super hyped if it was just Rare Replay headed to the Switch.

If nothing else, maybe they outsource Banjo to Playtonic Games. Where most of the ex-Rare staff who made Banjo back in the day are.
