Wasn't Link intentionally made bland because he was supposed to be a link to the player? Great idea in the past, but it's kind of backfiring now.

It still works on some characters like Gordon Freeman from Half-Life, but nowadays, it doesn't work. Especially on characters like Link. Grunting ain't a personality.
The only times he had one was by Philips and the cartoons. Not even by Nintendo. I don't see why they couldn't try to add a personality to him.

Link needs a makeover.

Leather jacket, Chuck Taylor shoes, ear gauges, and Fruit of the Loom underwear. That should add some spice to the classic design.

The last time they tried giving Link a personality, it resulted in THOSE games we don't talk about. Then again the game was made by Phillips so i guess i can't be too mad.

Well, there's Skyward Sword which was all right, but Groose, Ghirahim, Impa, Zelda, Demise, everyone else, and even the enemies and Fi had more character than Link.

Wind Waker Link was goofy, but that was because of the art direction. The Hero's Shade had personality, but he was a NPC rather than a playable Link.

To be fair, they did give you the option to rename him, which from now on I'm just gonna name him Robin.

And considering that Majoras Mask 3D comes in two months, I'll get my first chance doing that pretty soon.

Yeah, but Robin has their own personality while Link was just a blank sheet for you to imprint yourself on.

Lord Waluigi is preparing a master plan to put himself in Smash. Converting the Smash 4 roster to his cause, the Great Wah and his trusty tennis racket is only starting his reign of terror.
Only Sakurai with ,,, , and can stop the Wah.
But the Wah is unpredictable. One day, he'll come.

But Strorfirko! How else are you gonna learn about a character's dark and terrible past if they do anything but exposition?! Why would you want to learn whether a character likes fish or pork? Or if they have personality outside of this?

But that's what almost every character does in recent games including Batman who "talks" to the player to tell them what to do or notice. Hell, those quips Nathan Drake does? Or how in Mass Effect your party members talk about every thing that just happened.

Some games come to mind and they tend to focus on gameplay like DMC, Bayonetta, etc., where if it gameplay, then they rarely talk outside of attack quotes or taunts, but if it's a cutscene then they'll talk normally.

The Mario & Luigi games does this to. But you know, Miyamoto prefer the gameplay over the good story and characters. For him, writing a scenario on a toilet paper is the best way to create a scenario and a character personality. That's why Mario and Link are so bland.

I'm much more looking forward for that amiibo card thing Miyamoto has been considering.

I just grab what I want and if it isnt there I make do without. Because of that I already have 4 amiibos and Im happy with the four I got
