It is similar, but the white parts are redish, making it seem like a plain red outfit, where the white outfit has red trimmings for no apparent reason, which seems like they made the mistake of thinking her fire outfit was like Peach's. That works, though.

It could be, but it seems more like a random red outfit, like the green one, purple one, etc. Peach even has a full red dress.

Or maybe I'm just being too nitpicky about the shade of red that should be pure white.

I agree, honestly I believe Smash 4 to be one of the worst Nintendo games ever made. I mean, honestly, there are WAY too many characters.
Luckily, Hyrule Warriors only has 19 characters.
