So... why isn't she used in tournments more often?

Iggy uses her (he turns up at Shockwave occasionally) and there's another Rosalina player I know of but can't remember their name offhand. I think it starts with an S?

But to most people, Rosalina's type of gameplay isn't really hype or exciting, so they don't use her. It's also really weird getting used to controlling her and Luma at the same time, which can turn some players off of her.

Same can be said about Pit. Guess people just can't handle the awesomeness they possess.

I guess it's cus generally she's a defensive character, people seem to enjoy Falcon/Sheik/Diddy since they can be played a little more aggressively -shrug-

I don't think it's to do with her aggressiveness, as she can be played both aggressively and defensively. tbh, it's probably just because her playstyle confusing, and requires keeping your attention on two characters at once, and her relative slowness.

lol, the complaining just forced the playstyle, before luma respawned after 8 s and then hyper aggression were much better. THe lumaspeednerf also forces that.

I'm kind of glad she isn't super popular.. I personally think she's slept on, and there's no other sm4sh char that I feel as comfortable with. I'm mainly an SF player and, while I have been in character crisis since basically the beginning with that game, Rosa is undoubtedly my main. She's awesome!

The hipster life :shades:

I just want to see her more because she can pull out incredible tricks in battle aside from certain characters *cough*:4diddy:*cough* that many players use just for a certain combo even if the character itself has a lot of potential. #hoohahater

She is a specialist type of character. I've put my time into her because I feel she has immense untapped potential and will only get better with time. A lot of pro players want something simple and effective to go to such as pre-patch diddy or sheik. Why learn a deep character that takes time like Rosa when you have hoo-haa?

Too true, man.
This is why it always makes me laugh/ slightly pisses me off when I get called out or have my skill discredited for being a Rosalina Main (which actually happens fairly often) seeing as a lot of people still have the mindset that she's a stupid character that takes no skill to win with because of how Broken she is.
I've been to a few Smash streams before which have literally had segments of time where they just hate on Rosalina and **** on the people who play her. It's sad and annoying, and it also seems to me like part of the reason why people don't want to be caught maining her, aside from the depth she takes compared to other top tier characters.

The reason why I play her is simply because I love Rosalina. She's my favorite Mario universe character and was my most wanted newcomer for Smash 4. Tiers had nothing to do with it honestly, so that's why I'll keep playing her even if people pick me apart for it.

My guess would be consistency. If youre competing at professional competitive levels you need a character who is 100% without fail, no matter what situation you may be in. Rosalums is Queen of Gimmicks and nobody who's played a skilled rosa would deny her incredible combo, and KO potential.

That being said, multiple factors need to line up for her to be attacking and defending at maximum efficiency; though yes her neutral game is in most match ups fairly sustainable or at least adaptable after losing luma one, or two times whilst needing to close out a stock. These are exactly the things you dont want to be faced with in game 5 of a tournament with thousands of dollars and professional advancement at stake.

Basedrosie has it right. Rosa is our diamond in the rough. Not only is she technically exciting and fresh - but she is a complete mystery to a majority of player and slept on imo without a doubt more then any other character on the roster. Id be glad if Rosa stayed outa top 8 for singles.. doubles is when we see the true Rosa skillers anyway ;)

I main Mega Man, and Rosa is my go-to second. I think she has the same problem as Mega - astronomically high skill ceiling, and a meta that requires you to use all of your tools in creative ways on the fly, rather than having a simple grab->kill option like so many top tiers.

She has a learning curve, she's light, tall and floaty so she needs to be played perfectly in order not to get cheesed. Cheesed however is my next point, they don't enjoy her play. Most players do not appreciate a Luma Nair/Uair after they just threw Rosalina away or some other "gimmick" set-up. She also has a bit of a confusing playstyle, like others mentioned she is not rush down oriented and can make some games very campy or defensive like, which a lot of players don't enjoy playing against or even watching. Last point being is that she's a female mario character who quite some people see as 'dull'.

Note that these are opinions of others, not myself. I'm a very fanatic Rosalina user and put tons of hours into her gameplay.

Because you can't A: Throw out 15 moves per second (Yoshi, Falcon), B: Press A and win, (Sheik, Diddy) or C: Press B and win (Sonic). She takes skill, therefore she is bad.

Rosalina doesn't see as much play as other high tier characters probably because she's not exactly "pick up and play." While she may not be the hardest character to play as in the game, she does have a somewhat steep learning curve, especially when it comes to Luma mechanics. Her playstyle is also very unorthodox, as others have said. Since she's so different from other characters, it's much more unlikely people would decide to pick her up as a secondary, since often you'd want your secondary to have a play style that shares something in common with your main.

As far as high level Rosalina mains, I'd say it's really just Dabuz, *Falln*, Iggy, Xaltis, and myself (in no order other than Dabuz being 1st). There are others that have potential for sure though

The fact that she requires such precision to play efficiently without becoming predictable can really hold her back. She's a very good character to play defensively but you need to know your options and where exactly Luma can go in order to use her to her maximum potential, so there's a lot of micromanagement involved. It's tricky, and for a lot of people I would imagine it's probably not worth it when there are characters like Sheik and Luigi who can rack up damage with more of a payoff (and more of a margin for error), and they require less commitment.

I'm not very good at all but the hardest part of playing Rosalina in my opinion, after learning what exactly does what, is how easy it is to fall into a bad habit. Staying unpredictable can be a challenge, especially when your customs are on and you can Star Bit to high heaven. It takes work, really.

I guess the main problem is that while Rosalina can be very diverse with her battle options, she needs to have the Luma around to be a very effective combatant. If the opponent can easily wipe out the Luma, then Rosalina's approach options will take a huge plummet for a while. And depending on how aggressive that fighter is, Rosalina could see herself getting wiped out before a new Luma even spawns.

This is pretty sad, since Rosalina is probably one of the safer fighters to use while she has the Luma by her side.

Rosalina & Luma can dominate and usurp the battle easily by using precision. Using the Luma is vital while fighting an opponent. Although you don't need the Luma, the Luma facilitates Rosalina substantially. Personally, I've grown to multi-task with the Luma, and I have won many battles while utilizing Luma. I have also learned to playing the same without the Luma. She may not be AS STRONG, she isn't completely punishable.

My hypothesis is either that they cannot properly use the Luma to help Rosalina
OR
They prefer to use other characters that they feel are better than Rosalina.
(Rosalina is the best in my opinion!)

Overall, like any other character, she has minuscule flaws, but her recovery, great defense, and overall power is what makes her awesome. Some people just prefer to use characters like Diddy Kong and Sheik, and they believe that they can win with those characters. Even though Rosalina is a top tiered character, that isn't the reason why I used her. To be honest, I don't really want a hoard of Rosalina users just because she's top tiered.

From the day SSB4 was the day that I knew that she would be my main!:rosalina:

That is exactly what it is! Well said. They are definitely Skill based characters, only to be used by those strong enough to master them.

1) She's different. Most of the better characters are fast rush down guys, and she's one of the few exceptions. (Note: Rosalina has an effective rush down game. It isn't immediately obvious though and it isn't her defining trait)

2) The falsely perpetuated notion that she is defensive by nature. She isn't, but the fact people perpetuate that she is limits her audience, because people who like other playstyles will not consider her as a result. Ironic, as she actually encompasses all playstyles.

3)One of the hardest characters to learn in the game, due to her unfamiliarity and her abundance of unique ATs.

4) A lot of competitive players probably didn't particularly want her in the game on principle. She comes from Mario, not Star Fox and Fire Emblem.

5) She's not a burly anime character or a furry that goes "toot-toot" and "hut-hut" that makes Edgy McTryhards (i.e. the majority of the competitive Smash community) feel like they are a manly man or sexy homoerotic aesthetic.

I wish I could say that last one is just a joke, but there is honestly some truth to it.

I believe she has the same problem as ice climbers where after losing nana ( or in this case luma ) they certainly get knocked down a few tiers. Any master of rosalina has also mastered luma, she takes alot of skill and focus on both luma and rosa to be used well, I will admit she's one of the best characters in the game. But at the same time she has one of the highest learning curves, so maby that's why she's under used.

So I gave this some thought and I think I figured it out. It's going to sound crazy but bear with me.

The reason is not because she's super tough or anything. The reason is because back in 1.0.4, Rosalina was NOT tournament viable without a secondary, simply because she was hard countered by Diddy. And if you recall, Sakurai said there wouldn't be patches after 1.0.4. This effectively meant that people wouldn't pick up Rosalina because they would need somebody else to cover the Diddy matchup. The few Rosalina mains who went to tournaments were knocked out early by the huge abundance of Diddys. Dabuz is the only player who could power through the Diddy matchup, but he occasionally needed to bring out the Olimar. Eventually, once new patches came, people didn't switch to Rosalina because they already established themselves with another character.

It's similar to why Little Mac is rarely seen in tournaments: He's hard countered by Sheik.

Also people just hate how awesome she is.

Vanilla Rosalina was stronger than diddy in the game for 3 main reason 1. You COULD NOT grab her 2. She could kill you without Luma 3. Most of her moves were really fast and had really low CD

...She can still KO without Luma just fine.

It's Rosalina's U-air that's infamously good, not Luma's (though his is really good too).

Not to mention she has a D-air spike, and F-air and B-air are great offstage. Her throws are still decent, and her Smashes were always very good too. IIRC, Rosalina's U-Smash is the one with more knockback. The back hit of D-air is also quite strong, stronger than both hits of Luma's I believe.

I personally don't understand why Rosalinas had so many problems with pre-patch Diddy though, I never did. In general, I didn't mind pre-patch Diddy too much. As I always say, I think the Smash 4 community relies too much on "wait for a patch".

While her learning curve and playstyle take time to get used to, people don't like Rosalina in Smash4. I see a bunch of hate towards her and luma because the way she plays and the players(bad ones) don't know how to deal with her and some just complain about her and ''camping playstyle''. With customs, I bet they hate her more.

I main Rosalina since the game came out and if a player don't want me to play as Rosalina, then its their problem. Even if she wasn't good, I'm still willing to main her no matter what because I like Rosalina and she's one of my favorite character along with the Mario bros. I do wish to see other competition Rosalina players besides Dabuz and Iggy(I think).

If you want to look into some more Rosalina players, falln and Xaltis are two other pretty well known ones.

Also, one of the best Smash 4 players in Ireland, Mint, is a Rosalina and Luigi player, which may interest you.

I'm talking about 1.0.4, not 1.0.0. Back in 1.0.4, Diddy hard countered Rosalina.
