Don't you guys think snake is slightly overpowered >8^P?

Also, it is of my best interest to see people agreeing that snake is not cheap, because it makes me feel better about using such a WHYISTHISCHEAPFUKERINBRAWL character.

People deem Snake cheap because he's new...and not because he's new to the series, but because his fighting style is new to the series, people have trouble fighting Snake, because his style is so different...But this will change as the metagame develops.

To the OP:

Man...pixels sure are some cowardous little cretins...

So by your logic, Link/Toon Link's wide array of tools makes them cheap, Olimar's pikmin make him cheap, Sonic's speed make him cheap, The Ice Climbers themselves are cheap since they are a pair, and Falco/Wolf's blasters make him cheap.

And nice move with the ad hominem fallacy. Woo hoo my avy is Snake so my logic is wrong because I'm defending him by POINTING OUT HIS WEAKNESSES. /Sarcasm
I don't think you understand his point...

Either way...
Snake is cheap because everymove has extreme knockback
-His running a is very quick to come out and it has a good amount of knockback
-his uair and bair have extremely long range
-His projectiles allow him to be very campy
-his combo A can kill thus making the fsmash a gimmick
-his fair can kill and tornadoes people in... but it can be kinda weird to get off...

The ony bad part is his recovery leaves him vulnerable
-But he's so heavy that it doesn't even matter you'll just fly up a lil higher then normal

So what you have now is....
-Campy...
--Your opponent comes towards you...
From air-Bair, Fair or Uair can usually outrange most attacks
Running Sheild grab-Ftilt usually has enough range and power to push their sheilded arses backwards making it impossible to grab (unless they use tehter... which is usually too slow any way) unless they perfect sheild... and if they do.... you still have your second ftilt you can use
Running A-Ftilt usually can outrange people cancel damage and come out with a second attack afterwards while the enemy is recovering from their moves lag
B rushes-Fox Illusion/Falcon Kick etc-Easilly blocked... and then you can pull off a kill or a high blowback move with lots of range and little lag (combo A, ftilt, Running A) allowing you to "chase" (though he can't really....) with his rediculous ariels

General thing-You can place a mine in front of your camping area so they have no choice but to attack you from air... So long as your back is to an edge.... Or they have to jump above you... which leaves them vulnerable still to an Up B...
Also.... Your running A is usually fast enough to interecpt them... it has a alot of unexpected range and speed... making it a good move...

And pretty much just use a combo A or anything to kill...
-While learning to powerstick with perfect sheilding and in general for kills...
-Sheild grabbing (obvious)

Snake = cheap
Likewise Olimar = Cheap
The only legit character?
-I dunno... I only notice the cheap ones....

I don't think Snake is cheap. Just... very frustrating in the hands of someone who can use him well. I guess you could say the same about any character, but with Snake it's a little different... he takes control of the battlefield and gives you nowhere to hide.

There are some really annoying Snake players though, who just plant explosives, run away, throw grenades, repeat.... which is really quite stupid since Snake's close-range attacks are powerful. The explosives should be used to trap your opponent so that you can get close to them and beat the crap out of them... not so you can run away like a coward. That isn't Snake.

You kinda make yourself sound like a skrub here. Obviously if this "cowardly" tactic works, it either means that this IS Snake, or you just aren't good enough to get past easily avoidable and counterable moves. If all they do is run away, then you chase them and punish them. If they throw a grenade, you A. Catch it and throw it back, or B. DODGE it. Anyone who says something is cheap or cowardly is ignorant just because they can't get past it.

Did I say I lost the match?

I didn't, in fact. I DID chase them down and punish them. That doesn't mean it wasn't annoying. It isn't much fun to brawl against people who just run away and spam projectiles... it usually leads to easy but LONG matches, which are no fun. When I win matches, I wanna feel like I had to work for it.

Way to jump to conclusions.

Also I'd like to point out that I've also faced a few really good Snake players who either beat me badly or matched me pretty evenly.

The annoying Snake I was talking about was a rare case, fortunately.

EDIT: Ooops! I apologize for the double post... I didn't mean to do that :ohwell:

HonestlyJellyBelly, if you're complaining this much about a game purposely made with diverse characters, you should go play a game where everyone has the same moveset, same character height/strength/etc. Everything's balanced then, no? or better yet, turn on godmode while you're at it so you win all the time and nothing is ever cheap. Find a way to exploit snake's weaknesses. It's really not that hard.

My apologies JRAFF. I read your original post as you making the claim that Snake is a cowardly character, instead of you claiming the PLAYER was cowardly. I don't argue with you on that one.

That's ok. No worries, I apologize for getting angry.

Snake is a great character... I still need to learn to use him well myself. I've always had trouble handling heavier characters.

Well Snake would be a good one to start out with I guess. He's one of the heaviest, but he isn't unbearably slow like the other heavies. His fighting style takes some getting used to, but once you get it down, it's easier to get into people's heads.

And to stick to the topic, Snake isn't cheap :p

snake is a cool character but definetly not cheap. I know a major group of people hate items and have them off while playing but when the items are on, aren't many of them cheap? I'm assuming that it means the motion mine is cheap because it is in theory snake's down smash. Im assuming the hammer is cheap because it hits hard. The ray gun is cheap because once you get hit once then the player can spam you off the stage. Just because somebody plays cheaply doesnt mean a character is cheap. I mean I could hold you up against a wall and punch you to death as Sheik and be cheap but does that mean Sheik as a character is cheap? I think not.

Lol at mangodurban. Can't beat noobs so he tries to make up for it by saying the character is cheap.

I used to beat my brother with Bowser in Melee and do you know what he said? He said, "Oh my God, Bowser is so cheap!" To which I responded, "How on God's green earth is Bowser cheap?"

"He's too powerful" *facepalm*

Snake's close-range moves scare me more than his projectiles, honestly. Getting KO'd by his NEUTRAL A COMBO is no fun :(

(once again though, not saying he's cheap. Just frustratingly good!)

I think the main thing that's got me started with this thread is that he ascribed the word "cowardly" to Snake. Or "dirty."

I wonder if the OP realizes just how loaded these words are. More so than "cheap." Because, quite frankly, they just carry too much connotation (and denotation) for that matter to be really taken seriously here.

So there, that was my grown up response.

My Smashboard response is QQmore nub.

Snake is a good character because of the landmines and greenades ect. It isnt just something you can throw around, it reqires stratagy and timeing. With that snake can overwelm an oppenent quite easily. He doesnt have any "devastating" attacks though IMO, aside from his over smash, but that has short range. The over B missle hurts if it hits you dead on but other than that he's all stratagy, so use your own stratagy to overcome it. ;) otherwise you get owned. :\

wow i can't believe so many people are reading the thread wrong

he's not calling snake cheap gameplay wise

he's calling snake cheap for using landmines because he barely has to lift a finger to damage opponents with them since just by standing on one...it detonates

Know who's really cheap? Pokemon trainer. I swear I've never landed as much as one hit on the guy.

Yeah, keep taunting me from your comfy background position, Pokemon trainer! I swear I'll get you someday!

I had something to say about this but this thread is so stupid its rubbing off on me. Now I need to go solve a rubic's cube so I feel smart again.

Every character in Brawl is cheap as f***. Therefore all the cheapness cancels out and makes no character cheap.

Yeah, but he has to actually take a long time (as far as smashes go) to even do the move. It's like the yo yo glitch in melee. It's like leaving the hitbox in a certain spot. You still have to do the move. Plus it can be used against Snake as if YOU are the one that planted the mine, so there's absolutely no reason to call that cheap.

lol @ people actually lose to snake. And lol @ Sheik being cheap. Sheik wasn't nearly as good as people gave her credit for. Get that mess out of here. She was easy to pick up and hard to master.

Anyway, Snake is too beastly. Almost as manly as Melee Falcon.

Actually, Sheik wasn't hard to master at all. Falco and Fox were way harder to master. Sheik was good, but easy. Also, I specifically stated that Sheik was not cheap and that calling any character in smash bros cheap is insane. Which is plain logic, there is just too many stages, attacks and stuff like counterpicking etc.. that anything can be beaten.

P.s. why did the Brawl release include banning jokes from SWF? I don't like it at all. :(

the person who posted this probably gets beaat by snake everytime and is fed up with losing. its not like he become invisible when using his downsmash so u cant see where he places it. just dont go to where the mine is, or how about u do what everyone has to do and adapt to this new playing style instead of calling him cheap!

For the record people can own as snake without using the mines. Prime example being spAzn. If you ever pley her then you will know what I mean but she rarely seems to use the mines as a weapon other than the occasionally planting it on my body.

Snake's mines were designed to be strong. To make up for this they are slow to place. This also applies to almost all of Bowser, DK, and Ganondorf's attacks. Snake's close range combat is just as good as his mines or C4. A good Snake will be able to own using both, just as Gimpyfish can own with Bowser's slow attacks.

coupled with his down smash you have a character who actually uses an extremely cowardly fighting style to hurt his enemies through strategic mine placement and not through actual battle.
So many things wrong with this statement, it's illogical/irrational/whatever else you wanna call it. He is battling with his projectiles, it's part of his game. Strategic mine placement can't be called cowardly, it's strategy. You can toss back his grenades, he can get hurt by his own dsmash, and his down special requires preemptive activation if you actually want a shot at landing it. He isn't the cheapest character by any means, I can think of at least 3 other characters who merit that title before Snake.

in the american revolution, the english marched into battle standing in neat rows with red uniforms.

the americans lied prone and found cover.

The English were like "dude you guys are cowards, stand up and get shot!"

and the americans said "QQ you lil scrub. LOL" and opened a 3 inch hole in the Brit's face.
This is the most beautiful display of ownage and truth I have ever seen on these boards. I salute you. I seriously hope the guy that started this silly debate was joking about the cowardly thing. Why would you not do whatever you can to win? Sounds like someone needs to go watch The Last Samurai...

I think we share a brother.

I use Pokemon Trainer, I'm cheap because I have too much versatility.
I use Ice Climbers, I'm cheap because I have two people.
I use King Dedede, I'm cheap because I have a chaingrab. That I hardly ever USE.
I use Fox, I'm cheap because I'm too fast.
I use Ike, I'm cheap because I'm powerful.
I use Diddy, I'm cheap because of his bananas.

No joke, he calls cheap on EVERY CHARACTER I USE. It's to the point where I'm considering giving up my efforts to keep from whupping him with his own mains just so he can call his characters cheap.

All that I know is that snake-haters all forget one thing:
Snake can get hit by his own projectiles. Ol' Snake just throws them out (Excluding the mortar, the nikita, and.... the box) So let's end this talk of cowardice and cheapness and such and you guys just pick up the nades and toss them right back ok? ok.
