Should people be able to submit more than one example for artwork in the next poll?
It's all about choosing the best design; it's not a contest.

If the community is wanting, would you be happy if I proposed a second artwork poll, with only JOE!'s and FlyinFilipino's submission?

-Terywj
Its so close that those that voted for the losing designs will make a huge difference.

So yeah, 2nd poll.

Well Spire...

Art Poll ends March 6th (Tomorrow) at 4:00 PM Eastern Time
But I can't really enforce that since the poll remains open until you close it. Oh well, I guess.

Who. Is. Kholdstare? Because he voted after Spire did, breaking the tie.

Except I never see him post.

**** that closing time  This poll is close (and important), so let it go til Midnight. I'll be up to close it.

Oh, and Kholdstare is a cool guy. I'm surprised he came in to the PC though.

He used to be a regular in the Pokemon Center.
Then he later migrated away from it. :\

So yeah, it's okay for him to vote. :)

So basically unless someone else random comes in and votes for JOE!'s submission then we'll be keeping things as is, I guess.

Because it looks more like a Pokemon than a typical jack-o-lantern. I voted for yours because I thought it resembled the stats better and if you would allow me, to have the chance to give it some slight tweaks to the design to make it look more like a Pokemon.

Well then, after Vrael and Skyler we just may end up having a tie, bwahaha.

And Spire, as we went over before SmashCAP 1 you have the right to make edits in finalized artwork. You stated that you would be the head of art / spriting and all.

And plus, you're Mod. XD We'll be fine with your editing. (At least I will be)

it looks more like a pokemon because of the eyes, if i went back and shooped like, haunter's eyes over my jackolantern you'd say it looks like a pokemon

I noticed how similar it seemed to Haunter, but it's the appearance as an obvious pumpkin that hurts the design. The vine limbs are great though.

so sunflora sucks because it's recognizeable as a sunflower, victreebell suffers from being a pitcher plant, Wailord suffers because clearly he's based off a whale..

I think a moving jackolantern face with ghostly flames inside it is rather unique compared to blatantly ripping off things and changing their colors a bit

It's because of how iconic and cliché the jack-o-lantern has become in both the real world and in countless forms of media. It instantly recalls Halloween and there is no such thing in Pokemon, so it would carry a slight conceptual struggle that the player would undoubtedly recognize. Cacnea and Cacturne have jack-o-lantern type faces, but aren't pumpkins, rather cacti, which are thick, hollow plants like pumpkins. Clever on Nintendo's part.

Before Pokemon, had you ever seen a cartoonized pitcher plant with a face? Most likely not.

Delibird: Fat little red and white fella who hands out presents, also an ice type

Arceus: Name a religion

i doubt halloween is that bad of a referance, especially if we are talkign about a grass/GHOST pokemon

I'm gonna agree with Spire, here. While I like the idea of a pumpkin pokemon, it really shouldn't be a jack o lantern. The designers were never blatently obvious about what the reference. Sure you have pokes like delibird which is clearly the Santa pokemon, but they could have made it a fat man, gave him a beard, and had given it some "speed is increaced either at night or with a stantler" ability but they didn't. There should still be that synapse you have to jump if you want to make the connection. I don't mind animals, I don't mind plants, and I don't mind any rock/earth/metal creation, but having, say, chansey the easter bunny is where I draw the line in terms of being a blatent reference to an idea that isn't living (not like I'd have an issue with an easter reference. I'm an adament christian and blissey could really use the weight of lopunny).

I'm just saying, there are good and bad pokemon designs. Yours isn't bad (like I said, I love the general form and weight distribution), but it's just a little too suggestive.

suggestive, when theres a blatant god pokemon...?

Im just failing to see what the deal is when there are other pokemon that referance much more specific things, liek spiritomb and this (hindi?) myth about the evil spirits, delidird, heracross and his beetle fighting routes, etc.

And it's not like somebody is gonna look at it and go "wtf does this represent?" im pretty sure a jackolantern is essentially synonomous with spooky/halloween, thus the typing.

It doesn't actually say that Arceus is a god pokemon is it?

It just happened to create teh universe and everything around it, but its not worshipped and its not the actual subject of a religion is it?

Btw, I love flyfilipino's submission

I only speak for myself here, but I wouldn't have guessed Arceus was a deity Pokemon if it weren't for its Pokedex entry and place in the Pokedex.

Heracross is fine off. All Pokemon are just super-powered versions of real life organisms, and this one is no exception.

Delibird doesn't look exactly like Santa Clause, a symbol that Christmas is very easily associated with. But if the concept already has an icon and the Pokemon looks exactly like it (which is the case with pumpkins and halloween) then something about it needs to be changed. That's how Nintendo has been doing it with Delibird after all. :p

Pumpkins are used too often... so what about eggplants or some other type of squash? For example, a spooky eggplant or zucchini would add more originality to the Pokemon as a whole.
Do whatever you want with it though. It's your Pokemon. :)

Well, I missed all the action. Thanks to everyone that voted for my submission though. For the record, everyone's submission is great. Everyone put some work and thought into it.

As far as matching the stats go, I agree that if you look at it one way, it doesn't look the type to have high HP and/or defenses. But one wouldn't think Vaporeon would have that much HP, or that Dusknoir would have so little for its size. It's all kind of ambiguous, I guess.

By the way, feel free to alter some of its design as you see fit. As you can tell from the lack of color, I kind of left it open-ended. I think some white, pale green, pink, or lilac would look nice on it, though.

What if we took FF's submission and made it fat? Oddly enough, I'm actually kind of serious. It would fit the stats rather well then, and it wouldn't look quite so much like Froslass (in fact, it would kind of be like the Persian-Purugly scenario). Win-win? Oh yeah, and names...well, let's just say I myself could probably think up quite a few names for an overweight ghostly pixie.

Of course, FF would have to agree with it. It just...seems like it would fit. I could see it being pretty Pokemon-like if you did it right too. Other's thoughts on it?

...a haunted zucchini?

lolz, but really, wat othe rplant would be "fun" to have a a ghost type, that isnt somethign oddly dead OR a Pumpkin? What is the harm with having a jackolantern as a pokemon, when there are so many other things like Bronzong or even jynx (Black mammy anyone?) that are much more specific?

also, i dont think making it simply fatter would make it fit the stats...unless we made it boo-shaped? :p

If you think about it, if we altered FF's submission to be more Boo-like I actually think it might work. Making it rounder or larger (think King Boo) could give it more depth and a sense of realism to the stat spread we picked for SmashCAP 2. Let Spire and FF give it a whirl and see how it goes.

that was my main issue with this, Flyin's submission in like no way fit the stat spread...but won becaus eit looked more like a pokemon

now that it can be altered after the fact, why even have a poll? The creator gets a mulligan and can alter the entire shape...

Which would undoubtedly have gotten more votes, so your point is...

Regardless, thread's closed.
