Here we go! We're almost done with SmashCAP 1! We won't be calling it that for long, as with the name submissions beginning we'll soon have a name for Smash World Forums very first community-created Pokemon!

SmashCAP 1 All we really need is the picture, but whatever.
Concept: Bulky-Offense Counter
Type: Water/ Ground
Ability: Levitate / Unaware
Base stats: 85 / 80 / 140 / 80 / 65 / 90 (BST: 540)

With Latin vocabulary help from Firus I was able to come up with the name Undanguis. It is a combination of wave and snake in latin. I saw the pokemon as a terrestrial.aquatic serpentine so, voila!

Leviatine (luh-VYE-uh-TEEN) was the first thing that came to my mind, a portmanteau of Leviathan and Serpentine.

Portmanteau of Coatl (Aztec serpent/snake) and Abyss (since it lives in deep-water trenches).

I was purposefully trying to avoid such an obvious reference. Plus, keep in mind the 10-character limit of the Pokemon games. Quetzalbyss breaks it, Coatlbyss does not.

Perhaps a respelling: Quetzlbyss.

it's a contraction of "Calder", meaning "wild water" and "Curran", meaning "spear". Spear in both appearance and the ability to find weaknesses in defense (bulky offense counter) indicative to the actual weapon. Both are descended from older forms of English, a language and culture that practically defined sea monsters.

Morsemeyka, a hybrid between the russian words for Maritime and Snake.

Zemidako, a hybrid russian word, when unraveled, means Dragon of the Earth.


Russian is the best language ever, you can get all sorts of fun names from it.

I'm liking these Russian names, but remember, Pokemon are renamed in different languages based on the languages themselves. We're speaking English here, so that should be the origin of the Pokemon's name.

Trepent, something which I randomly threw out while I was typing my last post has caught my attention further for its interesting characteristics.

Trepent
Trench + Serpent

Those two base words are obvious, but upon further searching I found out it can be linked to 3 interesting words.

Trent - is a river in England. River = water.
Torpent - means having little or no motion, something SmashCAP 1 might as well be doing thanks to its great base 140 Defense.
Strepent - is something which SmashCAP 1 might making when it's done walling and goes on the attack. (Strepent means noisy, if you didn't know)

Idk. I just looked up Mud Snake, which lead me to Colubrid, which led me to Lycophidian (Wolf Snake), and then I looked at its fins and such and thought Plesiosaur, and then I had to make it fly so I thought Flying Fish (Exocoetidae). Ple- is Plesiosaur, Exo- is Flying Fish, and -Dian/Dine is the Snake part.

Although I personally find Caldurran to be the best listed so far.

Dragorivos, is a hybrid Greek word, it means Earth Dragon, I just switched around a letter to make it Dragorvios, and it sounds 40x better.
