Job 25: Propose a character count for this roster. Feel free to specify any caveats (e.g. does this count clones/echoes, are Pokemon Trainer and Mii Fighters being counted as one instead of three).
I’ll go with 55 unique slots (I’m treating Pokemon Trainer and Mii Fighter as one here).

All of the options here are all valid must-haves for the next game, IMO. Bowser, Pyra/Mythra, Isabelle, Zelda, and Pokémon Trainer (or even just Charizard) all make sense as secondary veterans to their home franchises.

I guess a character count of around 55 to 65 unique slots on a menu would work. Perhaps 9 newcomers. Mii Fighters are separate. Pokémon Trainer is one slot. Clones could be added late in development, like in every other Smash game that exists.

Was a bit torn on what to choose for number 3, I like all these options, but siding with Isabelle. I know if she isn't changed up too much that she doesn't really offer much in respect to gameplay function, but she's one of the single most important Nintendo mascots at the moment and I'd rather pioneer Animal Crossing getting its dues early on because no doubt Zelda, for example, will get theirs eventually.

Side note, I didn't really like that it seemed like an updated, BOTW / TOTK Zelda was specifically the pitch? I'd rather maintain the diverse spread of Zelda content that we have now rather than homogenizing everything to be the most recent iteration. I don't think Zelda (character) needs that much updating. I don't know if this really matters but it does bring up an interesting question, at least in respect to a series like Zelda where they're technically different Links and Zeldas.

Pokemon Trainer gets my #1 because without any meaningful dev time limitations, this is definitely the most important representation of the series excluding Pikachu. Pokemon and Mario in particular getting their next steps feels like a no-brainer.

---

I'm gonna vouch for around 64 unique "slots". Cozy number with some significance to the series, so I think it's both practical and cute. Slots obviously implies characters like Pokemon Trainer, Pyra / Mythra and maybe Miis should be quantified as one. Not because this makes any objective sense, but just so we're not limiting ourselves too hard for an arbitrary reason. We personally don't need to acommodate for imaginary dev time and it squanders our collective creativity a bit to use up a max of three spaces on one character / concept.

And then echo fighters can be accounted for just as they were in Smash Ultimate, as supplement to the main, unique character count. That being said, if we choose to declone an echo fighter like Daisy or Dark Samus we should consider them a part of the total roster count.

Here are the votes:

Pokemon Trainer 6
Mythra/Pyra 2
Bowser 20
Isabelle 6
Zelda 8

Bowser and Zelda are our next fighters.

Based on the nominations on roster size, it looks like we’ll have something between 50 and 76 unique fighters. Please vote for three numbers within that range. Also, we’ll treat the Pokemon Trainer’s pokemon and Aegis as one slot if they make it.
I’ll set up a poll if Mii Fighters should count as one slot or three if they return.

1. 60
2. 64
3. 55

Job 26: Nominate an Assist from a series without a playable fighter.
Saki Amamiya
I’ll nominate Saki, who would use his specials in Crusade.

Job 27: Nominate a number of Assists that should be available.
I’ll go with 50

Please feel free to submit two songs from Golden Sun and Advance Wars.

Golden Sun:

Golden Sun Theme
Venus Lighthouse

I'm voting for 64 slots again. Especially since it's the highest number of the bunch, for a collaborative project like this why limit ourselves? It certainly won't end up being a realistic prediction roster anyway.

Job 26: Sheriff
1703389411013.png

A fun pick from one of Nintendo's oldest games. I feel like it wouldn't be such a major blow to set this character aside as an AT either, compared to other unrepresented series that may constitute fighters down the line.

Job 27:
I dunno, there are apparently 59 in Smash Ultimate so maybe around there - we could bump it up to 60 Assist Trophies? That may end up being kind of a lot but I don't see any reason why we'd need to downscale on ATs. If need be I feel like 48 would be the lowest we should reasonably go.

Sukapon and Saki crossed my mind to nominate, but I didn't want to regulate them to a nonplayable role just yet. Unfortunately that's just how it's going to have to be for now, and I suppose I'd rather keep the door open for Saki if anyone. Horace is funny but I'm just gonna opt for the guys who deserve it.

Abstaining from the number vote, doesn't matter to me.

Job 28: Palossand

Mario Trophies:

King Bob-Omb (Super Mario 64)
Il Piantissimo (Super Mario Sunshine)
Fawful (Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga)
Maw-Maw (Super Mario Bros Wonder)
Hoppo (Super Mario Bros Wonder)

I'll leave the Zelda trophies to those better equipped than me.

He's already added.
Whoops, thanks for the reminder. Let's go with Palossand then. Original post will be updated to adjust for this too.

1703774819147.png

It will remain unassuming until a fighter enters its space, and then it will grab the fighter and pull them into a spinning sand vortex to rack up heavy damage. Then the fighter will be vertically spit out into the air.

For items, we’ll have the Star Rod, Bullet Bill, and Fairy Bottle added

Based on the poll, there will be 50 pokemon.

Also, I’ll set up a poll to determine if 75 or 79 items should be in the game.

Job 32: Submit a New Stage for Sonic and Animal Crossing

For the Sonic stage, I’ll nominate Chemical Plant Zone.

For Animal Crossing, I’ll nominate New Island, which would have something like a Small Battlefield layout and water that fighters can swim on both sides.

Job 33: Nominate a Stage Count (Specify how many are returning)
I’ll nominate 70 stages with 25 of them being returning stages (this counts FD and the Battlefield variants).
Feel free to add 3 Donkey Kong and Metroid trophies, and I’ll end nominations on Wednesday, so people can celebrate the New Year.

Donkey Kong
Dixie Kong, Kiddy Kong, Kremling

Metroid
Mother Brain, Metroid Prime, Dark Samus

Job 32: I’m only familiar with Sonic out of these two, so I can’t really say anything about Animal Crossing.

For my submission, I’ll go with Planet Wisp (Sonic Colours). I found it a bit weird they went with Windy Hill in Smash 4 instead, because it would have been a good time to introduce a stage from Colours.
IMG_1559.jpeg

Colours is also a visually distinct game, so I think bringing a stage from the modern era, but not too modern is a solid choice. Being able to have a more industrial stage with a bright backdrop isn’t seen too often in Smash Bros.

Job 33: I guess having 64 stages is a solid amount. It’s a drop off from Ultimate, but allows more than just one series to have only one stage.

For Trophies, I’ll go with:
DK: Chunky Kong, Donkey Konga, Tiki Tong
Metroid: Metroid, X Parasite, E.M.M.I

An iconic stage. Smash could use a casino style stage. there would be numbers and a slot machine in the !middle

Museum
A stage that switches between forms. Start outside the museum in the waiting room. Villagers from AC cameo and watch the battle. Eventually you will be taken into one of three rooms. An art room, where players battle in an expensive room full of paintings and statues, an aquarium full of fish where you fight inside a huge fish tank, and a diesel room where you fight on top of a boney t-rex.

Trophies
DK
Cranky Kong, Funky Kong, King K. Rool
Metroid
Ridley, Adam Malkovich, Raven Beak

Bringing a stage from this era makes sense and that we haven't got a beach stage yet.

Mystery Island Tour (New Horizons)
Would be a traveling stage with different terrain.

I feel like Waluigi and Bandana Waddle Dee are probably going to join later down the line, so I’ll nominate Midna as a Legend of Zelda newcomer is requested, and she’s a popular character in the series.

Feel free to submit two Yoshi and Star Fox trophies
Yoshi: Stork, Kamek

Can't add images right now. Will update later. I think a Pokemon from the new generation makes sense and Tinkaton seems like a fun pick. I think it has a really fun personality that would translate well and could have a really fun moveset making use of the oversized hammer.

Star Fox
General Pepper, R.O.B. 64

Job 34 - Tom Nook

1704395304272.png

Perhaps one of the most important and popular Nintendo characters absent from Smash, especially relative to his significance within his own series, I feel like Tom Nook is a given and actually has a lot of potential for a fun moveset.

I've visualized kind of a bell investment mechanic that works as somewhat of an EX meter to spend bells on powering up certain attacks. On a more simple level - swinging around big bags of bells, summoning the Nooklings to assist with grabs, maybe planting a money tree that will double your bell total so long as you let it grow to completion? And then to assist with normals and maybe even an Up Special, I think Tom Nook may be able to borrow some techniques from a certain other fighter on the roster who dresses up as a Tanooki from time to time. My favorite attack concept involving this is for his Dair, Tom Nook can pull out a leaf, spawning a statue that he rides down onto the stage akin to Steve's anvil to replicate Tanooki Mario's stone transformation.

I don't really want Nook to get in the way of adding Isabelle later, I think they should absolutely all be here. But he's the first one that came to mind for this new job, and I want to push the agenda that Tom Nook can in fact be fun and unique without falling back too much on the established Villager template. And in some instances just finding new ways to play with that template - I think all the AC cast should share Pocket, but instead of the usual shtick Nook will cash in whatever he grabs for bells. The stronger the projectile, the more he rakes it in.

Shoutout to DJ Octavio, I'll definitely be voting for that one!

I think expanding on Splatoon and Animal Crossing is pretty important going into next game. Nook and Octavio are evergreen major characters in their respective series, both of which are some of Nintendo's biggest modern successes. So I feel pretty firm in those two. Also, how damn cool would DJ Octavio be? I've wanted a musician character forever, and while I'd prefer someone from Rhythm Heaven this will certainly do for now.

The third pick is a little more uncertain, but I like Midna. I feel like it's odd to establish her before say, Ganondorf but I think Zelda is due for something fresh and she's been a popular character for a long time. Tinkaton and Raven Beak are cool, but I don't want to go for "recency picks" yet. Paper Mario is alright but just doesn't excite me as much. I might be slightly influenced by the fact that some major characters, like Luigi / Peach and Ridley, are still absent too. So characters like this feel like later stage additions to me, whereas Nook / Octavio are essential components of their series and feel like high priority adds.

Splatoon and Animal Crososing both feel like they should get a new rep. Tom Nook is a character who I feel is long overdue, and while my preference for a Splatoon rep might lean towards the Idols, I still think Octaviois a great pull. Raven Beak is just a cool new villain. Tinkaton is fun but I do think there are other Pokemon we could add first, and Paper Mario is great but I think my preference would go to Waluigi \ Pauline \ Captain Toad \ Geno for a new Mario rep
