I decided to reboot the thread made by the wonderful Perkilator Perkilator . With World of Light giving off mixed reviews from fans of Smash why don't we work together to either remake World of Light or make a sequel to it? We will keep the Metroidvania/open-world gameplay and we will have a completely interconnected map. We will start with one character and save others who have been brainwashed into puppet fighters who possess the spirits of other characters. But now there is the addition of sidequests and other ways to unlock spirits. So overall the goal is to both remake WOL while also expanding the concepts it put out.

It starts out peacefully with the many universes represented in smash going about their usual dealings. Kirby, Dedede, and Meta Knight chase after a cake, BOTW Link and Zelda look over the horizons over a tower, Animal Crossing Villager helps delivers mail to his buddies, Splatoon Turf War, Donkey and Diddy sleeping in the banana hourd, and the Miis having a grand festival in Miitopia (yes that area is canon in smash). Suddenly we are over the mushroom kingdom with a typical fight between Mario, Luigi, and Bowser over rescuing Peach as usual. Mario boosts Luigi up with Luigi jumping onto some goombas and generally working together to take down the King of Koopas in his airship. Pretty standard just a cutscene of a traditional Mario adventure. Suddenly in space two space bodies form on the horizon. One appears in from of the sun growing it in size causing the surrounding dimensions to become brighter, meanwhile, a shadowy sheet forms over the other horizon forming a strangely beautiful blanket of light and darkness. From the body of light comes four orbs, an orb of fire, an orb of water, an orb of the earth, and an orb of lightning. Meanwhile, the sheet of darkness summons four spears, a spear of poison, a spear of metal, a spear of wind, and a spear of wood. The orbs and spears shoot at each other causing a great light show in the night sky. Back at the fight with Mario vs Bowser they become distracted by the lights in the sky, meanwhile, Luigi is facing Jr in the barracks of the airship until Junior traps him inside a steel keg. Suddenly alarms come off as the orbs and spears suddenly shatter forming beams of light and dark. The spears' dark beams snatch up Bowser and Junior as he tries to save his papa while the orbs' light beams snatch Peach and was about to hit the trapped Luigi but Mario sacrificed himself and launched the trapped Luigi out of a cannon before the airship was destroyed. As we see other universes we view other characters scrambling with a few trying to escape, the major heroes and villains are snatched up by the beams and they are trapped in the lairs of Galeem and Darkon who want to harness the strange energy these fighters have and weaponize them to defeat each other, they dub this energy SMASHIUM. They petrify these characters and create clones of them by combining their vessels with the essence of those whose souls were ripped out by the two divine beings. A few managed to survive but now are under threat of capture by various summoned armies (Koopa Troop, Bokoblins, Kremlings, Dark Matter, and Starmen seen storming these universes alongside invading other universes such as Minecraft, Metroid, Sonic, and many others.) They now hide with a few forming small communities hoping to find a hero to break the ongoing war between the two forces. Luckily, or unluckily, Luigi survived and now wakes up in a now ravaged kingdom, suddenly he sees a pair of hands forming monsters to ravage the few surviving toads and they kidnap Toadsworth and steal his essence to be used as a puppet fighter. Luigi decides he needs to courage up and save the plighted beings from their capture.

Who else could be the hero of this story. We need a hero we can need, a hero we can trust, we need....

Luigi

The eternal understudy, the ultimate example of the little guy, Luigi is the star of this reboot. Being that he is experienced with his own adventures on a small scale via Luigi's Mansion series. It would be fitting to catapult him to the realm of a world-saving hero. Like Kirby, Luigi is also a great beginner fighter so he won't be too complicated to master. Plus the fact that in the last adventure mode Luigi was only playable at the end he should be here at the forefront saving the universe.

Time to vote for characters, the winner becoming the main character of the story mode.

Young Link
Luigi
Kirby

Vote for your top 2, you may vote for your own in second or third place. We will continue the thread once enough votes are voted shortly after.

Luigi wins the voting process, a nice change of pace from Kirby's accused favoritism.

With Luigi now the main character there needs to be a cutscene justifying that.

Job 2
Submit an opening cutscene
The plot of WOL is pretty bare bones so I think making a new interpretation of the story would be pretty awesome. Submit the opening cutscene for this WOL reboot, it needs to feature the following.

A scene where all the fighters get converted into spirits

How the puppet fighters are created

How did Luigi survive the ordeal

How did some of the spirits become trapped by the bad guys

It should be noted that not all spirits are puppet fighters as some spirits are npcs that act as givers of quests and such and they willingly give you their power as thanks for helping them. Still some sports got captured and converted into puppets and you still need to save them.

Job 3
Continuing from that create the opening stage

Going from where the cutscene you created ends off, create an opening stage that acts as a tutorial. Describe the structure of the stage, any plot or lore relevance to that specific location, and music for that stage (can be music in ultimate or music from other video games represented as a non-DLC fighter). You also have enemies to fight, these enemies can be recorded into an almanac similiar to trophies. Being the first stage these enemies should barely pose or threat or no threat at all. When making an enemy use the following template:

Image: (Image of the enemy)
Enemy: (Name of the enemy)
Franchise: (Franchise where the enemy comes from)
Attacks: (What attacks do they do)
Abilities: (Do they have a sheild, do they heal other enemies, are they weak to something, basically a passive element that determines an enemy's strengths, weaknesses, and abilities)
Alamanac Entry: (A somewhat informative or humorous entry about the enemy in question)

Also it should be noted that the end of the stage features a door leading to a Novice Spirit, describe what that spirit is. It must be a character not an item and someone canonically in the game. After that is a boss but that's next job.

Job 2:

Most of the opening would stay the same, except when Rosalina is taken out Luma manages to survive. Near the end, instead of Kirby we see Mario and Luigi have still survived. They run up to Luma who transforms into a Launch Star to send them to safety. A beam is about to hit Luigi but then Mario pushes him out of the way, sacrificing himself. Luigi then gets into the Launch Star, terrified. We then see the shot of the light engulfing the universe, except we see Luigi fly just out of range. Luigi then crashes down to the earth, and looks on at the world ahead of him.

I like it, its well with their characters, also while your entry will count we will be combining stage and cutscene submissions so if you win and didnt make a stage after this cutscene we will have to make a stage taking place after your cutscene, so if you have an idea for your stage but dont want to risk to losing to someone else if that jobs opens I suggest making the the stage submission now so that you can have more control in where this thread will go

The stage itself is a rolling green hill. It is short, and basically acts as a way to allow the player to figure out how it all works. The stage itself mostly draws from iconic opening stages, such as those of New Super Marios Bros, Kirby's Green Greens, or Sonic's Green Hill Zone. There are little to no hazards, being only a few pits here and there. Some enemies appear later in the stage to act as a starting point on how to deal with them. These enemies are very weak and simple. A single Darknut appears at the end before the Spirit, acting as a way to show a stronger enemy in combat.

1650235365723.png

Goomba
Series: Mario
Attacks: Goombas walk around, and will attempt to ram into players on sight. They can be easily avoided and are rather weak overall.
Abilities: Jumping and landing on a Goomba will OHKO it, a reference to their home series.
Almanac Entry: These mushroom-like creatures are typically the main foot soldiers of the Koopa Troop. These guys are rather weak overall. Try giving them a stomp!

1650235674533.png

Cappy
Series: Kirby
Attacks: Cappies will hop around in one spot, not doing much in any way to actively harm the player. Attacking them a bit removes their mushroom cap, and they'll begin frantically hopping around, but they do not pose much of a threat.
Abilities: Upon hitting half health, they'll lose their cap, and their attack pattern will change.
Almanac Entry: Some of the many denizens of Dream Land. Despite being your enemy, them seem just about as frightened as you, and prefer to hide behind their mushroom caps. Removing that causes them to fly into a panic.

1650235905645.png

Spearow
Series: Pokemon
Attacks: Spearow will fly in the air. Upon spotting a player, they'll attempt to divebomb them before flying back up in an arc. They will pause a bit before repeating again. Should a player move too far, they will ignore them.
Abilities: If hit by a move with the Electric or Ice elements, they will take heavier damage than normal, and will be stunned for a short while.
Almanac Entry: A common bird Pokemon, Spearow live in grassy areas and due to their short wings cannot fly too high. Despite this, they are reckless in nature and often carelessly rush into combat. Watch out for their divebombing Take Down from the sky!

1650236149751.png

Crabmeat
Series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Attacks: Crabmeat will move from side to side. Should a player appear near it, it will attempt to swipe at them with its claws, and go into pursuit for a short while. They will stop at ledges, however.
Abilities: Jumping on the center part will KO it, just like with Goombas. However, jumping on one of the claws will damage you.
Almanac Entry: One of Dr. Eggman's Badniks, Crabmeats are relatively simple robots. They are powered from the inside, like all Badniks, by wild animals. Destroy them to free the animals! P.S, I've heard their heads are a weak spot...

1650236314580.png

Darknut
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Attacks: These powerful warriors have great defensive maneuvers, completely mitigating frontal assaults with their shields. However, attacking one from behind will damage it. They will turn to counter shortly afterwards, but they can be avoided. Darknuts mainly attack using their sword. Upon seeing a player, they will slash at them with their blade, firstly in a forward strike from up to down, then in a sideways strike from left to right. They will then move around before resuming that position. They also can switch the directions they are facing from time to time. If attacked from behind, they perform a basic strike behind them as a counter before switching direction completely.
Abilities: They will be completely stunned by a Deku Nut, which renders them completely immobile for longer than most enemies. They cannot defend when stunned.
Almanac Entry: These fearsome warriors are a force to be reckoned with, and their defense is second to none. Their blade can make quick work of even the strongest swordsmen. They're a bit slow to turn around to fight enemies behind them however, so strike them from behind to defeat them, as trying to attack them from the front will yield little results.

Spirit Battle:
The Spirit Battle at the end is against Eevee, a Primary Novice Class Neutral Spirit. Eevee was selected because it acts as a good starting point for Spirits, not having to worry about teaching Spirit matchups or Support Spirits yet. Eevee itself is also a fitting first Spirit given its already early access point in the regular WoL. Eevee's Spirit Battle is the same as normal.

I'm going to create a stage, I just wanted to get that out first.

The first area would be basic rocky terrain, resembling where Kirby (or Luigi in this case) landed at the end of the cutscene, with a fairly basic layout that gradually introduces the mechanics of the game. Most of the level would be flat, with a few elavated platforming sections. There would be a couple pits or spikes, to introduce the player to them. There would be a few basic enemies that would be easily defeated

Enemy: Goomba
Franchise: Super Mario
Attacks: Charge at you when they see you
Abilities: Die when jumped on, deal damage if you bump into them
Alamanac Entry: These little guys are the backbone of the Koopa Troop. They may be simple to defeat, but if you aren't paying attention they might catch you off guard!
1650238924704.png

Enemy: Waddle Dee
Franchise: Kirby
Attacks: None
Abilities: Deal damage if you bump into them
Alamanac Entry: The Waddle Dee are a peaceful folk, but they can tend to get in the way. These little guys worked for King Dedede, but now they're with Galeem, so they're slightly more aggressive.
1650239455809.png

Enemy: Ralts
Franchise: Pokemon
Attacks: Will shoot a hypnotic beam that will put you to sleep
Abilities: Can teleport around to avoid being attacked
Alamanac Entry: This Psychic-Type Pokemon is native to the Hoenn region, but has been dragged out it's forest home by Galeem. They're a relatively passive foe who will only try to put you to sleep, but if there's another enemy around you may have something to worry about
1650240616075.png

Enemy: Shy Guy
Franchise: Super Mario/Yoshi
Attacks: Chases after you when spotted (but a bit faster than Goomba)
Abilities: If you jump on it, it will fall over, and you can pick it up and throw it
Alamanac Entry: These little guys are similiar to Goombas, but a bit more durable. I wonder what's under their mask?

Enemy: Koopa Troopa
Franchise: Super Mario
Attacks: Chase after you when spotted
Abilities: Will go into it's shell when hit, which acts like a regular shell
Alamanac Entry: These little turtles make up Bowser's main workforce. They retreat into their shell when hit, but you can use that to your advantage!

Spirit Battle: Smokey Prog like in the original.

Music Track: The Map Page / Bonus Level

Job 2
Mushroom Ruins
Despite its ruined exterior featuring crumbling structures and decaying castles, this still fits the classic Mario World 1 style of the world. The area starts out with Luigi following the trapped Toadsworth being carried off by Goombas and other members of the Koopa Troop. as you go down to the torn up but still peaceful plains you see your first enemies, a Goomba scaring a frightened toad and trapping him inside a cage, when Luigi comes over the Goomba taunts him before being quickly dispatched. Lugi frees the toad, specifically a yellow toad, and he thanks Luigi by giving him the sandwich he held onto as a healing item. As you go down deeper into the area you encounter more members of the Koopa troop. You then face a giant door which then becomes an ambush lead by a Hammer Bro. When that is quickly dispatched you open the stone door hit a strong attack.

Meanwhile the following enemies are introduced:

As you get deeper you see shadows of a creepy threat. And from there you see a strange site of something familiar, a cage of toads, not flesh toads, Paper Toads, these caged toads are being banged on by their captors, moblins, but a strange breed of artificial moblin. These moblins being to cackle at you and begin to attack you. After doing so the Paper Toads say that Toadsworth has been taken to the top of the tower with some strange creatures, So Luigi goes out and tries to save him, all the while these enemies are introduced.

After facing all these threats you see the Moblins, Goblins, and Koopas steal Toadsworth's essence and convert it into a spirit that is placed into a Mario Puppet. Luigi shocked by this challenges the facker and they get voided to the arena where Toadsworth's spirit battle it, which is basically the same as last time. After saving him the puppet disintegrates and that ends the stage, but not before the armies show a secret weapon.

There are little to no hazards, being only a few pits here and there. Some enemies appear later in the stage to act as a starting point on how to deal with them. These enemies are very weak and simple. A single Darknut appears at the end before the Spirit, acting as a way to show a stronger enemy in combat.

View attachment 350552

View attachment 350553

View attachment 350554

View attachment 350555

Will you be making an opening cutscene, It's recommended you make one to have an equal chance at winning since all other entires have both a cutscene and opening stage.

Oh, I didn’t realize we could add multiple areas. In that case, I’d like to add on to my original submission.

The second area is accessed through a warp pipe. It’s a dreary and damp Mario cave level. Here the level design would be more dynamic and difficult, with a bit more elevation. ? Blocks would be found and provide various items. There would be small pools of water to swim in, and the enemies would be a bit more difficult

Enemy: Paratroopa
Franchise: Super Mario
Attacks: None
Abilities: Flys around in a set pattern, wings are knocked off if hit, if they don't have wings they won't fall off ledges
Alamanac Entry: These Koopas were somehow able to sprout wings, and they make good use of that fact! When Galeem took control of them, they must've not have given them much direction, because they'll just fly in a set pattern.

Enemy: Spiny
Franchise: Super Mario
Attacks: None
Abilities: Will deal damage to you if you use psysical attacks
Alamanac Entry: These pointy little fellows will hurt you if you try to touch it, so you'll have find another way to take them out. Maybe they're in such a prickly mood because they can't find their pal Lakitu...

Enemy: Octorok
Franchise: The Legend of Zelda
Attacks: Shoots rocks at you
Abilities: Can swim in water
Alamanac Entry: Octoroks are creatures that are capable of movement on land or in the water. Be careful around them or be barraged with rocks! But where do those rocks come from?

1650256576666.png

Enemy: Zubat
Franchise: Pokemon
Attacks: Fly at you and bite you
Abilities: Found in clusters
Alamanac Entry: Zubats happen to be the bane of any Trainer's Spelunking session due to how many are found in caves. They are very aggressive creatures that will charge at you without a second thought. Bet you wish you brought some repels...

Don't those both count as separate jobs? Why would both jobs be under one vote?
I made the second job continue off what you made for the first job, and using both result we vote on where we should go off from there

I should apologize for the confusion, I made these two jobs linked by making one come after the other and made them separate jobs to not make too long, @Oroad64 and @pokelego64 's entry are allowed, if pokelego dosnt submitnan opening cutscene then we can make a new job for that, if otoad wins then the two submissions will combine and the ending of the first submission will be the ending of the second submission, voting will start in a few hours so I hope I can straighten everything out

Well I suppose to simplify things I'll make one, granted its not very amazing, but here's my submission on that front

In a dark void, a blinding light suddenly shines through. The light quickly expands and covers all of known space, with a quick montage of various places being shown. We then cut to Luigi, who suddenly wakes up in a grassy area with no idea what's happened. Looking around confused, he sees Spirits flying around, and notices them being captured by various forces. He proceeds to go after them.

View attachment 350557
Enemy: Waddle Dee
Franchise: Kirby
Attacks: None
Abilities: Deal damage if you bump into them
Alamanac Entry: The Waddle Dee are a peaceful folk, but they can tend to get in the way. These little guys worked for King Dedede, but now they're with Galeem, so they're slightly more aggressive.
View attachment 350560
Enemy: Ralts
Franchise: Pokemon
Attacks: Will shoot a hypnotic beam that will put you to sleep
Abilities: Can teleport around to avoid being attacked
Alamanac Entry: This Psychic-Type Pokemon is native to the Hoenn region, but has been dragged out it's forest home by Galeem. They're a relatively passive foe who will only try to put you to sleep, but if there's another enemy around you may have something to worry about
View attachment 350563

Pokelego999 Pokelego999 's submission

My World of Light actually starts much more different than usual. Luigi decides he needs to courage up and save the plighted beings from their predicament.

My first area will come later

Music: Mario Ground Theme

You later open the door and from the distance, you hear banging as you enter the ruins more dangerous hazards like bottomless pits and a few buzzsaws are introduced.

As you rise up the castle tower ruins you see these moblins attack from above tossing Goombas, Bomb-ombs, and other items from the background as you rise up the tower. Enemy: Banshee
Franchise: Miitopia
Attacks: Cries water blobs that slow you down.
Abilities: Resists dark attacks.
Almanac Entry: Crying ghouls with a case of the crocodile eye.

Music: Super Mario Bros - Castle Theme
After facing all these threats you see the Moblins, Goblins, and Koopas steal Toadsworth's essence and convert it into a spirit that is placed into a Mario Puppet. Luigi shocked by this challenges the facker and they get voided to the arena where Toadsworth's spirit battle it, which is basically the same as last time. After saving him the puppet disintegrates and that ends the stage, but not before the armies show a secret weapon.

How would you want to handle the DLC fighters

In WOL the DLC fighters were just given to you, I think we should integrate them more into the plot somehow in the methods to try to attain them, tell us how would you handle the inclusion of the DLC fighters, would you like them as NPCs, bonus fights, or something else

DLC Shrines

Its pretty simple really, as more DLC fighters get added you get to enter a sidequest where you encounter a shrine themed around the character in question and do stuff like fight enemies and such, nothing extravagant but nothing complicated either.

Voting is over and Glubbfubb's story won

While I dont want to toot my own horn I do think this is the best case scenario for this story as it gives us many different story possibilities. The concept of the elemental orbs and spears could give us a sort of thing to hunt like the seven needles or pure hearts and would give opportunities to flesh out this world. And the concept of peopel surviving the off waves would be good for area design.

Speaking of which

Job 5
Submit the first boss
With the first stage ending in a boss fight we need a boss fight for Mushroom Ruins. Since the stage had Mario, DKC, Nintendo Land, and Miitopia enemies there is a lot of possibilities for those franchises. Focusing on those franchises create the first boss of the game. Use the following template below.

Image
Name
Franchise
Intro Animation (The cutscene that plays during its introduction)
Attacks
Abilities (Passive abilities and weaknesses they have, do they only get damaged via a weak point or certain time for example)
Defeat Animation (When defeated what does this boss do)
Almanac Entry

Job 6
Submit the first safe zone
Safe Zones are like towns, they dont have any enemies to fight and instead they have towns with people to talk too, minigames to complete, and shops to purchase items at. The area establishes the safe zone will mainly have normal and paper toads so using that describe a safe zone, complete with a basic structure, major shops and businesses, and minigame establishments. Dont do sidequests yet as that's a future job.

Using this orb they empower the marionette and like a Frankenstein monster it rises up suddenly and growls beginning the battle.

Attacks: Ganon fights the battle with his twin forks, these forks are used in a melee attack where Ganon swipes that target forward. He can also toss these forks like boomerangs that can trap fighters and damage them multible times. He can also use a weird magic attack, he can cast a blue spell to summon Moblins, a purple spell to summon skeletal hands from the ground to bury the target, and an orange spell that creates a pillar of flames. His main attack however is him summoning spiked bombs for him to blast forward. These bombs can be destroyed with a well time attack but the red bombs in particular can be deflected by a shield which bounce off you and blasts Ganon destroying his metal helmet.

Abilities: Ganon starts the fight wearing a metal helmet which protects him from head bsed attacks. This helmet cat be destroyed by deflecting a bomb leaving the head as a weak spot. Ganon can be attacked on the body but it is much more reduced in damage.

Defeat: When defeated Ganon's limbs beging to wall off with him being bewildered by it before all of a sudden his hall falls off and later explodes.

Almanac Entry: Evil king of evilness... well a close replica of him... okay not really he was made with simple patchwork.

Name: Whispy Woods
Series: Kirby
Intro animation: The minions are shown running through a forest with Toadsworth's spirit. One of them bumps into a tree and runs off as Luigi arrives. Whispy Woods wakes up, and attacks Luigi, mistakenly believing he disturbed it.
Attacks: Whispy will start with his regular Kirby moveset, dropping apples from his branches randomly, and blowing air puffs at Luigi that do some minor damage if they make contact. He can also blow Luigi away and will also occasionally shoot up his roots like a spike, damaging Luigi if he touches them. Whispy will remain immobile until half his health is depleted. At this point, he'll grow in size and attempt to inhale Luigi. Luigi can run away from Whispy's pull until he tires out, but if he's too close when it starts or if he stops moving too long, he'll be pulled in and inhaled. Whispy will damage him before spitting him out again. Whispy will then move to the center of the stage via jumping. If Luigi is caught underneath, he will be crushed. Whispy will then repeat his pattern, but will alternate sides, and he also will create a wave of apples from time to time, which will damage Luigi if he touches them. He can shield or break any apples about to hit him. Whispy will then randomly switch sides from right, left, and center intermittently with the same moves until he is defeated (Note his apple wave only occurs if he's in the center).
Abilities: If hit by fire moves for long enough, he'll catch on fire and take constant damage throughout the fight.
Defeat Animation: Whispy will leap to the background as a number of explosions appear on Whispy as he spins around, eventually stopping and performing his defeat pose from the Kirby series. Whispy will remain there as Luigi leaves.
Almanac Entry: Guardian of the Forest, this tree is not one for being disturbed. Watch out for the apples that fall from his branches!

Submit the first Puppet Fighter to recruit
In canon WOL Mario was that first fighter recruited, this isnt that case as now Mario would become the last fighter unlocked, submit a different character that you will fight as the first Puppet Fighter and why.

Job 8
Submit story ideas
More of a discussion, what would like to see continue in terms of story and stuff, would you rather face Darkon or Galeem first, what roles would the Orbs and Spears mentioned in the initial story post would you like to see, and so on.
