Alright since everyones main focus seems to be on getting our own section, I'm creating this thread so people can chat about what/how our own section should look like / function.

Things like what main / sub categories we should use. (This will be important due to "space being the biggest issue here)

And just so you know...This is EXACTLY where we stand on getting our own section...

Hey Surri,

Good to hear from you again. In terms of its own heading its more or less an issue of us trying to not go overboard in terms of the amount of main page space forum headings are taking up. That said, I do want the 64 community to grow and thrive the same as Brawl or Melee. We are working on a bit of a main page redesign as we speak so give me a bit to see how that progresses and if we do not have anything in a couple weeks here drop me another line and ill see if there is a way to move it up.
That being said this is by no means a promise, or a 100% guarantee that we are getting our own section. Also, if we DO want the chances of getting our own section to be higher...we should make it compact, neat and effective.

With this thread created, there should be no need of people posting in the backroom thread regarding our own section...any one doing so WILL RECEIVE AN INFRACTION FOR MINOR SPAM

i think we need a char section, like not one per char, but to have a sub-from and in it 12 stickied posts for each char so we could discuss it.
the backroom in another thing, but i am unsure whether we need it or not.
general discussion is a must, and maybe the tournament sub though it is not really alive atm.

Personally...I see this kinda set-up so far...being the most logical

General Discussions (In here you would have the sub section for a "Char Section" type thing)

Competitive Events (Basic tourneys, ladders, and basically everything we have in our current sub forum)

Video Archive (This is a big thread and deserves it's own spot... especially with the popularity of commentary on the rise

Back Room (If we can get our selves one of these...it'd obviously go here? :p)

I agree with those sections surri. There is no need for separate character subforums imo.
In general, we should not split the 64 section in too many subforums, we should maybe do it if the number of players and the community is increasing noticeably.

Well again, I dont think there would be a devision of members if it was done like dandan said...

You'd have General Discussions...and then Character Specific as a sub forum within it (as competitive events is now) with 12 Stickies... each like mini social threads...but dedicated to the chars? :o

exactly that, we have no need for a a segment for each char, at least not at first, maybe if we actually will have an influx of new members, we will need to switch, but at first, i think it will be best.
also can have someone keeping them tidy and keeping the first post with useful tips and the such.

There are several quite good character tutorials, I suppose they should be added to the opening post of each thread.

I'm planning to make a really big Falcon video tutorial soon. Once I get all the stuff I need for it, I'll start immediately working on it (a new computer + a good recording program).

I'd love to be the one managing the Falcon sticky thread if there is one.

So, are there any concrete steps we as forum members can take that would assist in our getting our own section?

Not really...the staff know what we want, and if it's possible, we'll know :o

Like i said though we can come to a decent layout thats neat and doesn't eat space.

You Cant expect these things to just happen overnight...well maybe you can....but they wont xP

I would say try writing up decent threads for char sections and such but we need to figure out who would be doing what (and who wouldn't mind doing it preemptively...at the chance it might not even happen)

JV has told us to wait so thus is what we should do :o

Waiting forever for people who have no interest whatsoever in giving us a section to give us a section is not the way to go. The only thing even coming close to maybe almost kinda sorta compelling them is the fact that we want a section and have the right to a section (Well, maybe not the right, but you get my point). If we shut up about it indefinitely, it seems to me that the chances of it being pushed onto the dusty shelves of unimportant ideas grow exponentially greater.

if you read the quote from MLG_JV that I posted you should understand.

We Will not just "shut up" dont worry...just giving things time.

I know your negativity towards the development of smash64 comes from years of "waiting" but please just have a little faith in your mods, and admins ...doesn't it at least seem a little more "progressive" around here? ...if not i suppose I am failing D:

From experience though...I can tell you this...last time me and MLG_JV got together we got the competitive events section underway....now this might seem small, but it was the first thing to happen in a while regarding smash64 on smashboards. Lets hope this will turn out in the same manner :) (obviously on a larger scale this time :p)

Yeah "waiting" might sound bad. But at least they are communicating with us. I think things are looking real good right now. It might be some time. But I'm sure we will see our own section (and a backroom and some other development) soon. We've sat in this same state for awhile, it's time to evolve.

/cheers smash 64, we're moving on to a brighter future.

about character threads, do people want new ones, or will the ones already in the come here first thread suffice?

i have a link one, koro has a yoshi one, wenbobular has his fox one, i think that guy who managed the matchup charts (icy was it) got a falcon one and there are pika and jiggs ones that are incomplete from years back

do we use them or nominate people to write new threads? these threads would also have to be in the vein of the melee ones - good stage picks/cps, good move analysis, basic matchup analysis, etc etc

(good luck its not easy to make a decent one, you actually have to write more matchup stuff than melee players do because there are like 8 seriously viable characters in melee, and then some randoms like axe, taj and germ who beat people up with mid/low tier characters lol)

also change the title it looks spastic atm :|

^^^If people have a use for the yoshi section, Ill re-add stuff to it and bump it. No one was posting there or I would have updated the post.

in terms of a backroom, the sections Surri said first page is what I believe it should be.

Also, can we advertise tournaments that have smash 64 as well on tournament listings. It seems that it would be a good idea to increase participation IRL tournament.

According to my (limited) knowledge of message board software, it will take by my calculations about 5 minutes to give smash 64 it's own section.

And lol at saying it would "clutter" the forum - there are only about 9000 forums already right now, and adding a section for smash 64 would actually improve the organization of the forum categories ("General Gaming and Smash 64" - lolwut?).

The trade off is that there would be one more forum (competitive events - which would give smash 64 tourneys more visibility) and one more section header before the bottom, which is just the non-smash forums anyway. It's not like people are going to have a hard time finding the off-topic forums.

I'd like new character threads, or at least the ones that are unfinished to be completed. They seem to end right as they're approaching the more advanced/useful stuff.

Hm... I'm wondering. Since there a lot of online/kaillera tournaments, should we separate them from the offline ones? (a section for online and a section for offline)

how about smash 64 gets its own bold prefix heading in the tournament listings section for offline gatherings?

yes i know that would make it even more messy but hey, recognition+ :)

just throwing it out there

I like this idea. Separate subforums for offline and online is too much, IMO.

P2P tourney!! Galaxy Tournament! Moose Pass, AK NEED SETUPS!

.... I'm sure there won't be a problem determining online from in-person... besides I'm sure most major 64 events will just be side events to brawl/melee tournaments and most of the happenings in the 64 forum will just be discussions of said side events and links to the actual tournament pages in the listings/discussions...

The REAL question is... what color should 64 be in the tournaments section? Or should they remake color groupings? Currently It's melee (solo) brawl (solo) Brawl and melee (together) ... I think that remaking the color groupings would be pointless as there would be a need for a melee + 64 color, a brawl + 64 color, and just a 64 color... I think maybe just a nice tag of 64 would be nice for events with 64 tournaments.

(They neglect us all over >< hopefully the times will be a changin' - I've seen a few tournaments listed with 64 side tournaments and they never say it in the title =/ gotta dig for that information =/ sad sad)

Let's go sixty fo'!

I would edit but this deserves its own post... I just realized that if they made 64 yellow then the colors in use would be red blue yellow green ... anyone recognize those colors? =]

Okay this time I'll edit: hint: it's not reborn's sig... lol

red blue green would actually work because they are the primary colours (which I assume is exactly what you meant).

melee
brawl
64
melee and brawl
melee and 64
brawl and 64
melee, brawl and 64?
Why so complicated¿? xD

[Melee]
[Brawl]
[SSB64]

2 or more in 1 event:

[Melee][Brawl]
[Melee][SSB64]
[Brawl][SSB64]
[Melee][Brawl][SSB64]

Great idea but I think that "Brawl & Melee" tournaments happen extremely often while 64 is rare. So I don't really think we need a "Melee + 64" or "Brawl + 64" font. But if it doesn't bother the admins to create those, why not?
