Smash Wii U & 3DS director Masahiro Sakurai says "Pic of the day. The unexpected Assist Trophy, the TV-Game 15! Color TV-Game 15 is a home entertainment system that was released in 1977 in Japan before the release of Space Invaders. This is the oldest game to join the Smash Bros. series."

He also included an additional comment saying "Normally, controllers for these types of games had knobs with variable resistors--these allowed the players to control in-game movement by how far they twisted the knobs. The TV-Game 15 used microswitches instead. We've worked a little too hard to reenact the behavior of the original, so the paddles always move in linear paths with the same, consistent speed. We pay attention to such peculiar details!"

Seems like a fun assist. I couldn't see very well at first but the blue blur there is Zamus.

Oh and first!

Mm...despite the simple geometry of the paddles, those rectangles cast an awfully Ridley-esque shadow. Oh Sakuri, well played.

Meh, this week's nothing really interesting so far... Let's hope for something actually new for tomorrow!

The hole in the wall deconfirms Ridley!

It's good to see Sakurai has his priorities straight. Imagine all the hate he would've got if the paddles didn't move linearly.

Notice how Samus is in her morph ball but there is no bomb, new roll maybe?
(Doubt it but would be cool, just like in PM.)

Is this AT even related to Nintendo?
Third party AT?

If you zoom in, you can see a bomb.

I'd hate to be the left paddle.

I would backhand that Pong controller.

Is Zamus missing her head??

Decapitations confirmed. Scorpion gets over here. Toasty!

Edit: After looking more closely, I think it is her down-B. At first I thought that was her arms and legs splayed out and she was in hitstun, but if you look closer you can see most of those "limbs" are translucent. They're actually phantasms emitted by this jump animation, which is probably her down-B third jump. The stray blue glow below her supports this - it's a fifth "shadow" of her animation. Her body is actually only in the leftmost section of that blob, with her arms folded over her chest and her legs pinned together. She's perfectly vertical and upside-down.

...I still can't find her head though.

Ah yes... This takes me back!

Back to the days where all we got for PotD were Direct recaps...

It's Nintendo. The made the colour game things or whatever back in the day.

there's so many game companies that straight-up copied pong. Nintendo was not the first nor the last.

He is giving us new information. It's not as big of news as it used to be, but it's still more than we knew. Let's not get ungrateful like the Miiverse Kids now...
