Finally got the chance to play again and I must say that there is very little that still sets me in awe than a blue pivot boost grab. Hot dayum. I love Olimar even more now, if that's possible.

I have started using DAC after a dthrow and its much better compared to a running upsmash. But sometimes I screw up and do a dash attack instead, so annoying.

Every time I do that i fly off the stage someone explain it to me ;-;
Your Pikmin have deserted you. :)

On a serious note, I think that you didn't DI accordingly. Remember to 'quarter back' your joystick IMMEDIATELY after you use Up-B.

^sounds about right.

blah, I just need to sit for a full day and work on this, cuz the boost is awesome. not owning a wii and only being able to practice against friends makes that difficult haha

Practice it with snake first. The timing is much easier and it will give you a handle on what it feels like to boost grab. I'm not sure where to advise you on how to work your way down, but snakes timing is probably the easiest. you could probably then try it with link, then falco, and then eventually olimar.

*i meant boost smash, not boost grab haha

For me personally, I'm trying to learn how to do it 100% of the time. It will take you a lot of practice, that's for sure. I'd recommend just sitting with it for maybe a couple of days and getting into your muscle memory. I'm actually getting a wii any day now (FINALLY!!) and I plan to get this under my belt. It's definitely something I would use a lot if I knew I could pull it off every time I wanted to. It'll really psyche out opponents imo.

Like I said, maybe you could try doing it with link and falco once you get it really good with snake, id imagine their smashes are a little harder to time.

I've been trying with Snake and I get it 65% of the time, but then I get it with Olimar about 20% and I'm asking myself is it worth learning?
I've been practicing this pretty intensly for the last few days and im getting very consistent. Although it is difficult to get down, it is definately much easier than learning something like wavedashing in melee. And it is just about the closest thing olimar has to technical skill. Why not learn it?

Boost Smashing isn't the same as DACing I think. For example with Falco, a DAC is using a dash attack then cancelling the animation into an upsmash, while a boost smash is simply a sliding upsmash.

Everyone can boost smash but only some characters can DAC... I think. Not completely sure though xD

I thought both were just dash cstick-down then z+up. If there is a difference, then would someone please enlighten me?

Smashboosting can only be done with upsmash. It's also called dash attack canceled upsmash. Every character cab do this, but it's much more noticable with certain characters such as sheik, wario, and snake. When you do the boost, you're canceling the dash attack with c-stick down>z+upsmash on the c-stick.

I completely fail at Smash Boosting, period. Does anyone have an pointers for how to get the timing of this bull down?
The key is to make sure that you can hyphen smash with the normal analog. That was my main problem as I first began to boost smash: I wasn't smashing the analog at high enough of an angle to actually hyphen smash. Though I'm still working on it, I am capable of smash boosting pretty reliably with Olimar.

I'd recommend practicing with Snake, who has a much easier timing for his boost, just to make sure that you have the basics. When you can pull it off every time with Snake, then you graduate to Olimar, who has about a tenth of a second between when you smash down the C-stick and smash up the analog and press z.

It's the same? O_o Then what about Falco's weird Dash Attack->Upsmash thing and his normal boost smash? Is the dash-attack-upsmash just some weird property of his boost smash or what? IASA frames? Why does it only work with his upsmash?

Enlighten me please :D

I can finally pull this off consistantly! I'm so proud of myself. After about 7hrs of non-stop practice I can even do it 80% of the time on Wifi which is lagtasticly amazing. My problem wasn't going to slow, I was actually going way too fast. Unfortunately, I'm maining Wario now, not Olimar, so my consistancey will problem diminish.

Come young sapling. Into the monastery. You can lead the way.

*sigh* They're both the same. You're probably mixing it up with something else, like studderstep->fsmash, or DPCfsmash, or...idk. Here's a thread, talking about every tech you could think of: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=187873

I think he means how Falco gets both his dash attack to hit and the up smash. Most people only notice the Up Smash hitting because of people like Snake and they neglect to think about him actually continuing the dash. If you notice when you power shield it, you'll hear two hits connect with your shield, the dash AND the Mortar.

Falco's is a pain though, just because of it's high consistancy when hitting with both attacks.
