Stupid censorship measures don't help the sub vs. dub debates...

I'm fine with dubbing stuff since I watch dubbed anime at times, but come on, try to be faithful to the source material. >_>
If you're gonna watch any dubs, Funimation always does things uncensored, leaving in all the blood, gore, swearing, and sexual stuff in. Viz Media does this too, but to a lesser extent.

Yeah, I know. Funimation does good dubs. Aniplex's dubs aren't bad either.

I actually use English dubbed anime to practice my English listening. I'm serious. I kind of have an hard time understanding spoken English.

This.

Snake isn't confirmed to be in, but that doesn't mean he's cut either.

I like old school anime. I left the anime scene around the mid 2000s. There's a show or two post mid 2000s that I enjoy enough, but for me... it's the old stuff. Dubs don't bother me too much unless they really change the flavor of the show in the process (DBZ) in which case I'll go for the original.
Dragon Ball Z was altered? I suppose that might give me incentive to re-watch the series subbed; but it is hard once you hear Goku's screechy little girl voice.

You have to draw a line somewhere.
Would the line not be prohibiting pornographic material? I personally see no harm in discussing it as there is nothing truly obscene about that. Not that I would really want to discuss it. It just seems weird to censor that discussion.

Well, do consider the fact that the site's minimum age limit is 13. You be the judge on what's appropriate.

As I already stated; I am not going to personally partake in that discussion, but if the censor filter is not being used excessively, I fail to see the issue myself. Like this post was really funny and I do not believe that it crossed any lines.

I used to have a friend who kept sending me hentai pictures. Once he also photoshopped me as a ****** in a hentai picture with Mario. :(

No language beat Japan in terms of hardness. Memorizing hiragana and kanji can be quite a chore if you don't spend too much time on them. Then there's the fact that you have to write a symbol for the word that you're using. One of the main reasons why it will be too difficult to even think about visiting Japan, which is such a shame since I want to enjoy their landmarks. :(

I actually know quite a few people that learned Japanese (because they were obsessed with anime :urg:). I have also heard that Chinese was quite difficult.

Isn't English considered one of the hardest languages to learn?
Like FalKoopa said, depends on when you start learning and your native language. Also, not everyone has the same aptitude to learn languages.

I started learning English at age 7, thanks to video games no less, and my native language is Portuguese, to which English is comparatively simpler.

Well he is played by a 77 year old woman.

Naw, it's just the the US Dragon Ball has a serious case of "American Kirby is Hardcore" while the Japanese original always retained the tongue in cheek flavor of the original Dragon Ball, realizing that it wasn't always 100% serious. English version goes for an edgy feel and sound while Japanese version goes for something a bit more... well.. not.

It's a bit like Legend of Zelda in a way.. for every amazing "epic" moment, there's also a goof-tastic quirky moment. For every event involving a giant grinning moon coming down to destroy the world, there's also a man that wears skin tight green clothes and rides a balloon trying to sell maps to people while also chanting his made up magic words. For every amazing Super Saiyan transformation, there's also speedo wearing aliens named after dairy products that pose like Power Rangers. At once, Zelda can be about Link gathering the pendants to defeat Agahnim and stop the Dark World from overcoming the Light World, but while also having a fun quirky moment involving Link turning into a pink bunny and meeting up with an orange goblin kicking his pink ball friend around. At once, DBZ is about mighty alien warriors coming to earth in 1 year's time bringing possible chaos with them, but it's also about Goku seeking out a mighty martial arts master who may help him defeat said warriors while said master is also a cricket man with catfish whiskers and a pet monkey who lives on an obnoxiously small planet and can't get enough play on words to save his life.

Ironically, there are no anime conventions in Japan and they'll think of you as a manchild if you enjoy watching shonen anime like One Piece (which is read by elementary school and early high school kids). :troll:

How do I know? I watch plenty of videos by people who actually been there like Rachel & Jun for example.

Goes to show that different countries have different standards on what's acceptable for children to watch or not.

It's the same reason why some games get higher or lower age ratings depending on the region they're released.

Well it's nice knowing the moderators are throwing some, "lines", in this thread. I thought this was the borderlands of Smashboards like the Miiverse thread- just not as corrupted.

Moving on- I think the hardest language to learn is Japanese only because I can't identify symbols so well. That's just me though.

I took French my first three years of high school. It wasn't bad per say, but I never did feel confident speaking what little I knew. Didn't help I had and still do have a speech impediment. :/ This probably isn't said or spelled correctly, but here's a saying my classmates and I would say a lot: "Pour Quoi omelette du fromage?" (But why, cheese omelette?)

I've gradually learned some Japanese words from videos games such as Kingdom Hearts, as I watch the original Japanese playthroughs when they come out.
I can understand those words orally, but not in written form.

Sadly, I never really learned any other languages besides a bit of (Central Americanized) Spanish when in the prime learning stage of my life.

At least I can say that I have a master's degree in Wingdings. ;_;

I can read hiragana and katakana just fine, though I could use more practice...

Aren't we all just a bunch of man-children one way or another?
Is this a rhetoric question?

Because I believe everyone's childish personality from the early years of life never truly vanishes. Of course that, as an adult, one must learn how to act depending on the occasion.

I've put my japanese learning on hold for now. I can recognize a few simple words and phrases. I've mastered Hiragana and Katakana though.

Honestly; all languages are equally difficult for me to learn as evidenced by the notion that I have yet to learn one.
You learned English when you were a kid. :troll:

Hiragana and katakana were pretty simple for me. Kanji is on a whole other level since it's taken from Chinese, but I had an easier time memorizing some due to also learning some Chinese as a kid. I can speak enough Chinese to get around, but still can't really read or write too much.

I took French for five years, repeated the first due to transferring schools and they wouldn't allow me to go on to two because of different pacing. Same text book first year though...

There are anime conventions in Japan. They just run differently and aren't as big in the US due to different reasons. You are right in that many people look down on adults who are into anime. However, in some cases, it is fine for adults to read manga. I also enjoy watching channels like Rachel & Jun, but they don't seem like the type to go out looking for stuff like anime conventions, so I doubt they would know of any.

I'm just waiting for Primal Dialga.

Wait...
Primal Dialga might've been called that in translation because it/he got a more "primitive" natural state of mind that focused on self-preservation as a result of its dark, berserk state.

In Japanese, it's just called Dark Dialga.

Primal Groudon and Kyogre in the main canon are literally primitive or prehistoric forms of themselves.

"Dpn't spry, brp. I feel ya."

....Pretty sure you meant to say "don't cry, bro"
