Transformers: Beast Wars. He's a robot through and through. You're thinking of Gavantula. Who isn't even a robot. There is a robotic spider in Quest 64 appropriately called Arachnoid.(Arachnid Android)
What's a "Gavantula"? There's more then just Pokemon?! I thought he was the only one.

Gen 1 felt... meh to me. Movie aside. The overused repaints really annoyed me. Beast Wars did a far better job with characterization, used very very few repaints(Cheetor and Tigartron were it?), had tons of really cool moments, excellent and consistent animation, and actually made things like death and life feel extremely meaningful.

The one thing I'll give Gen 1 is "The Touch"'s usage, but that's it. The Headmasters stuff was cool, and I won't lie that it deserves credit for a lot of stuff. The introduction of the Predacons, for instance. Or the combiners.

I think it was just that is wasn't "my Transformers," when it came out, I've learned to really enjoy different takes on properties a lot more since then. (The Nick TMNT, for example, gets so many things right.) I also feel like Beast Machines kind of ruined Best Wars for me.

Beast Machines was pretty dumb, I admit. I did like how cool Rattrap was, at least. Or the fact they gave him some new characterization beyond "I'm a jerk spy. Yeah, baby!" I think it just messed so much with previous characterization that it beyond heavily bothered people. Also, some argue that Beast Wars split off into two different storylines, Machines, and RiD.

Was RID the really anime styled Transformers? I didn't really pay attention to any Transformers again until Transformers Animated; although I think I may have seen a few episode of Energon. I didn't know that show shared any continuity with anything, figured it was just a reboot.

In any case, a lot of my G1 love also comes from reading the Marvel comics back way back when, the original cartoon was fun but pretty cheesy.

RiD was an Anime, I think. Then it went to Armada > Energon > Cybertron.

I read a few comics and action books, but Cartoons/Anime is what I go with for my main Transformers experience. Video games too. I got the Beast Wars Transmetals game for the n64. It's awesome~

The relaunched Dreamwave comics were actually awesome when they were still being produced. Definitely worth a read if you can find it. I always loved comic book Grimlock, he is such a contrast to the other Autobots. He creates tension- he doesn't like a lot of the other bots. He thinks he is better then most of them and can usually back it up..... but he respects a key few of them and believes there philosophies. Plus, you know, robot T-rex.

Have you played the War for Cybertron games? Very Gear's of War, but I found them to be really fun.

I have not played those games, and have no interest in the comics. I like the Cartoon/Animes. I even own some of the Subs of the the older Animes. Right after Headmasters was Super God Masterforce and Victory. I need Headmasters to complete the Trilogy in Japan. I want to watch it all in a row.

I love today's pic of the day.

Basically a middle finger to those who claim that size of characters matter.

Absolutely great. Way to go Sakurai.

The War for Cybertron games are a lot of fun, I'm generally not huge fan of third person shooters, but the "feel" of the game is great. It's the first transformer game were transformations felt natural to me, and the robots didn't feel slow or clunky but still felt heavy, if that makes sense.

The space dragon talk earlier got me thinking, what characters have appeared the most in Smash but not been playable? Ridley is the only one I can think of being in all 3... was Toad in 64 in some way? I don't really remember.

I don't think Toad appeared till Melee?

Whispy Woods(he is a living breathing character technically) is one.

Um, let's see... I think all 3 Porygons showed up, but that doesn't count. Clefairy? Was it in Brawl? Or did Togepi replace it? Mew is another. Bob-Omb technically counts, since they are alive officially. They even move on their own, after all.

Yeah, not many that are viable beyond Ridley.

Snorlax, Mew, and Goldeen are the only repeating Pokeballs it looks like. Didn't know Mew was in Brawl, lol, also forgot Snorlax was in 64.

What about Poke Floats appearances? That should be noted too. Since Ridley was a stage background piece in 64, a cutscene in Melee, and a boss(twice) in Brawl. Trophies in Melee/Brawl too, respectively.

Moltres appears in Saffron City in the first game, and in a Poke Ball in Melee/Brawl, so we can add that to the list too.

So, Ridley, Snorlax, Mew, Goldeen, Moltres and Whispy Woods. I refuse to count the bob-ombs. Looking over the poke floats I don't think any of them that would carry over from poke balls in 64 carried over in any form into brawl.

AND Master hand, lol. Although I was thinking more non-Smash specific characters.

Not expecting the toobigots and the notoobigots to slow down their fighting after Ridley is revealed as..something. Or after anything. It'll probably just get worse.

Yeah, no Poke Floats ones.

And the Bob-Ombs are officially characters. They're just treated as Items. So is Mr. Saturn, who was never even a partial item in its proper series. Keep in mind Charizard and Little Mac became playable, so my whole point is Items that are indeed characters can become playable. If we're talking about characters who have appeared in all 3 games... well, they count. Also, Paper Mario heavily proves even the Black Bob-Ombs have characterization if you let them.

No, they won't be playable anyway. I'm not sure what your purpose of saying all this is, to be fair. Might help me converse better.
