Uh, I don't know about that. It may be unreliable but that's what other players are going to do, so I really don't know.

To clarify: If it's a matter of people taking Smash 3DS competitively then the answer is a resounding yes.
However if it's a matter of whether or not smash 3DS will be heavily played at events like EVO, SKTAR and APEX like 3 years post launch. Then I have to say I'm a bit doubtful. Given the nature and requirements such an event will need to run smoothly.

Well the Wii U will be chosen not only because of GC controllers, but as I said before, it will also be more convenient and most likely more cheaper to have as opposed to investing in multiple special 3DS capture and wiring equipment.

As we saw at the SDCC Smash 3DS tournament, people are will to watch and play the game competitively, it's just that not everyone is gonna have access to multiple 3DS kiosks to run an event such as that.

You're right, I guess. In those events, the 3DS version would have a lot of people doubting, but the Wii U one is going to "replace" it in those events.
