I have.
It's "okay" at best, Though I can tell the issues with the movie.
1. The main character is completely useless aside from the last half. And most of the time he's complaining.
2. Like you've said. The story can be very choppy at times. With it constantly switching from one viewpoint, to another, and now we're back to the kid, then the girlfriend. Speaking of which.
3. I felt that they had a good idea with the train. And had a unique conflict. Would we rather sacrifice our peace with the Natives just to progress?
But then they just throw it out the window and decide to have a "apparently I'm evil now" shtick.
4. Might as well say this. Johnny Depp as an Indian. Though admittedly, you know it's bad when he's the only likable main character.
If anything, if we look past the concept. He had personality, wit, and, what apparently the protagonist needed, guts...
5. The climax. I felt it was too "cheesy". Now, I don't mind cheese. Heck if anything I love it. And don't get me wrong it had it's fun moments.
It's just everything else before it was all dark and gritty. It just felt like pandering to the kids...
...And mind you this was a PG-13 movie.
6. The chiches. Mind you, it had some ideas. But it was note for note. The unlikely protagonist. The witty sidekick/mentor. The evil guy who wants to take over.
The girlfriend who's supposed to be over her but ends up getting together with him. The chosen one. The "I can't do this anymore!" scene. I could go on.
Heck, even the original ideas we're thrown out just to follow again (like the train conflict I said above).
But, that's just me...
