Well... The Fortress theme actually sounds pretty cool. Feels mysterious...
Still, the original game's theme was better. It sounded like you were stuck in a demented circus's carousel.

Goes to show how much the staff knew what they were doing when crafting the original Yoshi's Island.

The Yoshi's Island SNES OST exemplified a playful, carefree quality with their music that still matched flowingly with the game's art style and environmental setting as it changes (e.g. from fields to underground to outside to end goal.) Each song stood out on its own despite the limitations of MIDI instruments

The sequel OST's tried to replicate the same concept of carefree music that matched the original, but somehow lost meaning of the original's soul along the way. Instead, the song compositions resulted in sounding child-like and degrading, to the point of becoming obnoxious and unbearable as the songs recycle in later levels over the course of the game. What made them worse was using a signature instrument (i.e. kazoo's or whistles) to connect to the series' charming and carefree personality, that only get grating after prolonged hearing.

Also, they're trying to compete with Koji Kondo. It's hard to beat a Koji Kondo.
