Is it any worse than that "Bah Bah Bah" crap in the newer 2-D Mario games? I can't see anything topping that awful noise. It was fine in the DS game. But every game after they kept adding more and more.

Nah, it was fine in NSMB, NSMBW, and NSMBU. NSMB2 just had too much of it though.
YNI's music is just painful.
It sounds like a small group of people trying to harmonize with kazoos and failing miserably.

Can't say I liked any of the soundtracks outside of the first NSMB games.

The credits of NSMBW and NSMBU are pretty good. (I love NSMBW's credits theme)
Also, as a personal favorite, the World 7 Map theme from NSMBW as well.
