What did I miss when I was asleep?

*patpat* I just woke up because I was sick earlier + throwing up and with a headache, and usually my sleep habits get altered for a few days when that happens. D: I don't even know what happened while I was away.

A game that came out for the Wii in 2008 looks ugly compared to a game that came out for the Wii U in 2014? Really?

I think Brawl still looks good. The problem with the game's artstyle isn't that they went for a "pseudo-realistic" look, it's that they went for a pseudo-realistic look then, halfway through development, decided to make it more bright and colorful, but rather than remodel/texture the characters, they just brightened up the realistic textures and (for some characters) made them less detailed. Considering they're Nintendo characters, you'd think it'd look better, but in my opinion, the "epic" feel they originally went for in Brawl looked better than the finished product.

I was (and still am) not a big fan of Brawl's art style. Going realistic (sort of) might have been the way to go, in order to differentiate it from Melee.. yet the systems these games run on have almost the same specifications. Hardware doesn't matter. I don't know. The game didn't age well to me.

Yes. Compare Brawl's E3 2006 trailer and artwork, to the artwork used in the final game. It's not terribly drastic but it's there. It's less the characters, and more everything else that changed...I feel like the lighting and menu designs were completely different.
Although the official website looked pretty much the same.

I think you may have a point with the lighting. Maybe a placebo, but I think I noticed a difference between Battlefield 2006 and Battlefield now.

I've actually come to like Brawl's artstyle. Sure it's muddy in some places, but I feel it has some charm to it. Probably because I always looked at Smash as taking Nintendo characters and making as detailed as possible while still trying to retain core elements.

I do still prefer Smash 4's artstyle over Brawl however.

Just read the first paragraph to realise it;s the truth.

I really hated the brawl artstyle. It has SO MUCH gradients it's really everything but simplicity and as I alread said multiples time, I love simple yet packed artstyle. SSB4 is SO BRIGHT and SO SIMPLE that it makes me happy looking at it. SSBB however is quite "bland" in its colros variation making the artstyle not much effective on me.

It's basically super complex for hardly justifiable reasons.....imo, that artstyle shouldn't enhance realism honestly.....it doesn;t really need to

Depends which one you ralk about:

The Direct one is fake
The Walmart hasn't been debunked, but sounds SOOOOO fake
The 3ds one was admitted fake
The rumor about an IS employee telling it cannot be proven fake or not, but imo, it's likely to be legit.

It didn't changed and imo, I don;t think it will. Unless someone is claiming other stuff from IS, I don't think it's bound that we learn something new, it's already likely to be at E3 with this honestly.
