Isn't it all the rage for net denizens to claim they have ADHD, Aspergers, or Autism despite never being diagnosed/been diagnosed and came up negative? I seem to see a lot of kids nowadays claiming to have one of above but, when pressed, admit to either lying or they have yet to go see a specialist.

Not knocking on it or anything but...yeah...I'm getting old so I have Alzheimer's. I haven't been diagnosed but I have it I know for sure.

Isn't it all the rage for net denizens to claim they have ADHD, Aspergers, or Autism despite never being diagnosed/been diagnosed and came up negative? I guess I'm just referring to how some people will use those as an excused or certain behaviors or to appear "different"/gain sympathy when in fact they actually don't have it. Which just isn't right.

It doesn't help when parents tell their kids they have ADHD, when they're just naturally hyper. I went about for fourteen years saying I was ADHD until a doctor told me I wasn't. I still have no idea why my mother false prescribed a mental illness (that sounds bad) to me.

There was a student in my college graphic design class who literally had no skill and never really tried. He would come in late, half ass assignments, and listen to music during lectures . When the teacher gave the student a failing grade for assignments, the student would cry discrimination as they had Aspergers. The teacher then apparently had a meeting with the student and asked for documentation from the Department for Disabled Services (I had to get one as I have documented disabilities in math :/ ). The student was unable to produce it so the teacher suggested visiting the disabled services. From what I recall, the student apparently didn't have Aspergers but was using it as an excuse to get higher grades. It's tricky as it's becoming a hot bed issue (which it should as it raises awareness) but it also causes those who wish to profit off from it. Really disgusting :/

I had a poor student in my 6th grade. I don't know what he had but I felt bad for him. He was a sweet kid with a huge egg head and glasses. He was always smiling in my classes and really talking/learning English. But he got picked on/bullied a lot. Like bloody lips and noses. I was able to spot some of it and disciplined those involved but that just made it worse. What stumped me was he enjoyed it. I came to learn he would do and say things just to get s reaction from other students and then get beat on. He enjoyed getting beat on by the other students. He would insult them, say bad things about thier parents? Or tell them to go die apparently. So naturally I was torn as I wanted to help this kid but he kind of brought it on himself. He graduated this April so I hope he is adjusting well in Junior High.

Even if the Kid had Aspergers thats not a excuse to not try or act out, shouldn't think you get a free pass for having a disorder you can get help for them, disorders don't stop you from completing anything.

I knew this girl a few years older than me in high school who was sort of like that. I'm not sure what exactly she had, but she had a habit of doing things to get attention. Some of them cringe-worthy. She'd have mini tantrums, didn't get along with a lot of the teachers, and did things like roll around on the ground in front of a crowd of students who were laughing at her (and I wanted to punch them for it), thinking they were laughing with her. She'd gotten held back a few years as well. Still, she was a nice girl once you got to know her a bit, and a talented artist to boot. The problem was, the teachers and counselors got tired of her antics and instead of helping her, they sort of just...ignored her I guess? They weren't equipped to deal with someone like her. I wanted to help her myself, but I had no idea how. I had gone through something similar in grade school. It was all so frustrating. She eventually gradated though, and I pray that she is doing well...
