I honestly don't know what lewd art on DA has to do with anything, I honestly don't call people who make such "art" actual fans of the series in the first place.
Second, people will make rule34 art of any series regardless of what it is, people like that shouldn't be lumped in with actual fans of the series whether it be Sonic, Mario, Star Fox ect.

Now about your other part, it honestly sounds like you're generalizing the fanbase, there are plenty Sonic fans who don't act in such a way, visit places like Sonic Retro and you'll understand.

I know there are a select few sane people in the Sonic fanbase. I've met quite a few sane Sonic fans out here on the boards such as JaidynRieman, Espy Rose, and Camalange to name a few, but I'm still iffy about being part of a social group with all Sonic fans.

Sonic getting in to Smash was something monumental, Sonic had already appeared in a crossover with Mario so him appearing in Smash was the logical next step. Sonic being a long time rival of Nintendo and being one of the biggest icons in gaming he definitely deserves his spot in Smash whether you think so or not.

I don't doubt Sonic deserved his spot at all, I just don't think he's always 100% guaranteed to return.

That makes no sense, I feel like if Sonic comes back for the 5th Smash that would be enough to warrant atleast a second character. The series is iconic enough and by that time Sonic will be a 3rd time returning veteran which is quite impressive for a third party if you ask me. People already associate Sonic pretty closely with Nintendo anyway and we already have a Sonic characters and Mario characters competing in the Mario and Sonic Olympic games so it really wouldn't be a bad thing to have atleast one more character from the series.

Also, a good half of those characters you've listed are either confirmed or have a very niche support base that's really only within the Smash fandom and maybe the one of their home games.

As of this Smash I agree, don't want another character from the series. I'm just disagreeing with your sentiments that and second Sonic character is that unlikely that you would compare their chances with Optimus Prime. Like it or not they have demand, you don't have to want it and I don't actively want it but again if/when Sonic returns for the 5th iteration I wouldn't be opposed to Tails or Eggman in the slightest but that's my view on it.

I'm a pretty sane person, and Sonic does have downs and ups, but he's part of Video Games. the Smash Bros team put sonic in, by asking SEGA. And they did the same thing for Sma4sh.
Anyway, Sonic is the only 3rd part fighter that has been in 2 games, and WE are 99% not going to have another sonic chacracther, but still the other 1%.

Lol, I always thought Chorus Kids wouldn't get in the games, and I was right. Sure, an enemy appears in Smash Run and emblems were leaked apparently, but that means nothing.
