Yes, Japan didn't get it.
Ironically, the StarTropics games were made by Japanese devs (living in the US) and he director of the StarTropics games was Genyo Takeda (who also developed Punch-Out!!)

The Japanese had no idea who he was and the few who knew deemed him as obscure.
Except Punch-Out!! was released in Japan.
No game who hasn't got a Japanese release has been alluded to in the Smash series.

Likely true. But Punch-Out is still an iconic series on it's own merits. I also think they were released in Japan, but not that popular, like Metroid.

I didn't bother counting how many I have left. I just go by how many characters I finished. Which is only 3, Mega Man, Fox and Peach. Granted, there's a bunch of characters who's moves are nearly finished. Pretty sure I'm only missing one of R.O.B's moves and I'd be finished with him.

Mother 3 was intended to get an overseas release but was ultimately postponed after numerous delays, StarTropics wasn't.
He was talking about Japanese release.

The game is developed by Japanese developers. We've had content solely from games released in Japan, regardless of whether or not they were released outside of Japan.

Didn't we get a sicker in Brawl from Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, I believe Pit himself? That game was only released in Japan in 2012 (3DS VC), so seeing some content from StarTropics (like a trophy) doesn't seem too much of a stretch I guess. Yeah, I know Kid Icarus was already a series introduced in Smash, but they didn't have to include something from a game never released in Japan.

He would be literally the best thing to happen to Smash ever.What part of Sakurai shouldn't play favorites do you not understand? The whole world needs to be considered, not just Japan.
Still not as cool as the Pokemon Theme reference on the Pkmn Trainer's trophy, although it would be less painful if he wasn't cut for the most boring part of his moveset.
