In the real world, yes, that'd be true. But the Mario "World" (If you can even call it that) is FAR from realistic. The reason that it's a wasteland is probably because no one has been there in over 20 years.
But still why does that make it a wasteland rather than a jungle or something that's I don't know...more appealing? They made it realistic by showing that time has passed and that this mushroom kingdom is different than the one in Galaxy or something. A place that looks like this

doesn't just turn into the s**hole that was Mushroomy Kingdom. Even if its not realistic, its a stupid and ugly stage. That was my point. =P

Basically, Sakurai wanted to make it look like it hasn't been touched since the 80's or since whenever.

I've just thought of something, Ganondorf should have his own bike too if Aonuma plans on bringing Link's Master Bike in a future Zelda game. :troll:

That look like world 1-1 in updated graphics, A.K.A. exactly the same. I understand that you'd want it like it was in the original SMB, but think about it.
The floor in your picture is grass, but in the original SMB, it definitely wasn't. Also, like I said before, I doubt anyone has been there in years. It has been a LONG time since SMB1, so it makes sense to be incredibly worn down.
And I don't think it's that bad. I like Mushroomy Kingdom. It's one of my favorite stages in Brawl. Just in Brawl though. I don't like the changes the 3ds made to the stage.

So the first DLC batch (Master Quest) has been released in North America/Europe in Hyrule Warriors today. Here's a recap of what it contains:

- A new weapon for Link: Epona
- 5 new episodes for the story mode
- A new Adventure Mode map (also called Master Quest)
- "Guardian of Time" costumes for both Lana & Cia
- 20 more Gold Skulltulas to collect

Cia, Volga, & Wizzro are also added to the collection of playable characters, but they are actually a free update patch separate from this Master Quest DLC.

And a reminder that the Twilight Princess DLC is coming out next month.

Man, I love this game!

I got that part but that's like bringing back Delfino Plaza from Brawl but instead making it a post-apocalyptic run down place where the water is a sewer system now. Sunshine is 12 years old now so it has some age to it. It's just ugly and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I get its a creative opinion on what happened to the original Mushroom Kingdom but I have other opinions (its a jungle now).

Except you forgot that
1. Delfino Plaza is a vacationing spot.
2. A tourist attraction (Shine tower)
and 3. A place where people live.
World 1-1 is not any of these things.

I can understand it going from Grassland to Wasteland, but I don't understand how it could go from a Grassland to a Jungle.

But World 1-1 has something over Delfino Plaza. Adventure.

I don't understand it going from Grassland to Wasteland to be honest. Also, saying that nobody was living there is wrong too because according to the manual people DID live there, Bowser just turned them all into bricks (effectively making Mario a murderer). Even though they never referenced it again, saying that nobody lived there is wrong because at least Toads and others lived there too. Also we don't know, the Piantas and Noki's could have deserted Isle Delfino since Mario left.

I did find the above ground version of Mushroomy Kingdom to be a bit...boring, though nonetheless I did like the concept it used for becoming an aged forgotten wasteland.

I liked the dungeon/cave look the underground version got though, that one looked pretty cool to me.

Plus the underground version was my go-to stage to troll players who were really getting on my nerves online. I would just pick Jigglypuff or Samus, wait for the opportunity to grab my target(s) on the highest level of breakable blocks and just toss them up past the blast-line. :awesome:

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but I'm even more sure that by the time the Wii U version will come, Sakurai's team will have a couple more characters finished, and will be added to the 3DS version in a free patch. (Ice Climbers maybe?)

Kinda like how Cia, Wizzro and Volga are free DLC for hyrule warriors.

The toads were turned into blocks, yes, that's true. But that presents one major problem. You say that the blocks in world 1-1 (And by extension, the rest of the levels) are the toads, but if that's the case...
Then why are the blocks still there in the Mushroomy Kingdom stage?

Yes, but that has nothing to do with the conversation.

Because the level wouldn't be the same without the blocks from a creative standpoint. How are you going to have world 1-1 without the first set of bricks? Despite that, there WERE people living there. According to the manual:

You are Mario! It’s up to you to save the Mushroom People from the black magic of the Koopa!
Are you trying to say that the people who were turned into blocks were never saved after all?

No, I'm just asking this: Where is your proof that the blocks in 1-1 are toads?

One day the kingdom of the peaceful mushroom people was invaded by the Koopa, a tribe of turtles famous for their black magic. The quiet, peace-loving Mushroom People were turned into mere stones, bricks and even field horse-hair plants, and the Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruin.
Again from the manual. Considering the mushroom kingdom today is full of toads, its safe to assume that it was the same way back then too. If they were all saved by Mario, unless they all left and moved to the "new" Mushroom Kingdom it doesn't make sense that the entire place just fell to wasteland within 20+ years, especially if the toads were staying there. The same could be said about Isle Delfino if this is true so why wouldn't Isle Delfino turn into a wasteland by now? Or Dinosaur Island for that matter considering nobody other than the Yoshis lived there and it appears they deserted that place in favor of their own island more recently.

If that is true, then I want the direct quote. I could probably just look it up, but I don't feel like it.

The only one who can undo the magic spell on the Mushroom People and return them to their normal selves is the Princess Toadstool, the daughter of the Mushroom King. Unfortunately, she is presently in the hands of the great Koopa turtle king.
Mario, the hero of the story (maybe) hears about the Mushroom People's plight and sets out on a quest to free the Mushroom Princess from the evil Koopa and restore the fallen kingdom of the Mushroom People.
You are Mario! It's up to you to save the Mushroom People from the black magic of the Koopa!
EDIT: Kermit the Ninja'd.

Yes, the toads were turned into blocks, I knew that already, but nowhere does it say that the blocks in 1-1 are toads.
Have you ever considered that those blocks are just REGULAR blocks?

I'm glad the toilet is in a separate room from my bathroom sink at the dorm, but even still, I always keep my toothbrush in a cabinet behind the mirror.

At my house, though, I put my toothbrush in a ziploc bag and put it in a drawer.

Also, that's why I always get steamed when my roommate last year always left the toilet seat up.
If you saw the episode, the "Control" toothbrush, which was kept in a completely different room, STILL somehow how fecal bacteria on it

Looking at the manual, it says that the only way to transform them back is by Peach. Which implies that they can technically still be considered part of the living. As I doubt Peach can resurrect.

But it doesn't say they ARE.
This discussion really isn't going anywhere.
No it's not haha. I just personally don't like the idea of 1-1 being a desert. I don't like deserts and I think its an ugly and depressing stage. That's what I've been trying to say from the beginning :awesome:

What does that even mean? Nobody ever said that the toads were dead, nor did anyone insinuate that Peach could be resurrected. I don't see how this fits into the conversation.

I think we can all just agree Mushroomy Kingdom did everything wrong and should not have returned.
They didn't even bring back 1-2. That was the only form of the level I liked.
I don't agree with that. Unless you're talking about the 3ds version of course.
Brawl Mushrromy Kingdom = Good
3DS Mushroomy Kingdom = Bad.

They at least made a rendition of the music of 1-2 a bit closer to the M&L superstar saga one.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell, this is one of the rare thing I liked about superstar saga (I just didn't enjoy the game for several reasons) is the rendition of underground theme and the sort of simulated echos.

It's weird it doesn't echo that much but enough to have that "cave" feel.

Tough, this one is heavy echo + stereo effect based on 8 bit rendition...it's good, but I bit too much stereo effects and a bit too much echos:

My issue is the lack of 1-2. I don't mind the level at all, it's not as annoying as WarioWare or Mario Bros. Pictochat 2 is fine, at leat.
