Nope, I didn't have to deal with any customers~! =D

Why? Cause I was the cleaning guy. >_> I was supposed to be properly taught, trained and instructed on all of my tasks for the day as well as watch some more videos in other to take another test but none of the Managers seemed to feel like...well, "managing", so they just tossed me a towel, some generic Windex, a broom and ****ty excuse for a dustpan...Oh, and a trash stomper thing. ¬.¬'

Basically, all I did was sweep so I could wipe and wipe so I could sweep. And occasionally stomp the trash down and take some trays and wait for a different manager to tell me to keep doing the same thing until they were ready to let me take the test...which I never actually got to do. I didn't get to do any of the stuff I was supposed to do and no one took the time to teach me or train m on anything and most of my coworkers either stupid or lazy save for the other new guy, the other cleaning guy who I had already met last Friday, and one chick who was pretty chill with me since she was having a rough morning too. Ah, and it all got worse when a bus full of old people came storming in with a bunch of parents with messy (but admittedly adorable) kids afterwards who got their fingerprints all over the windows.

Also, I've been up since 6 and I still haven't eaten a goddamn thing since they didn't let me eat while I was there but let everyone else eat some of the stuff they had cooked up. I got so hungry that I had a hard time remembering to smile and say "Welcome to McDonalds!". Thankfully, I held the door for a lot of people, so that made up for it.

...I'm tired, I'm hungry and I wanna take a bath. And give someone a good corkscrew to the jaw. I'm feeling violent.

Good thing Smash comes out this Friday...eh.
Wow, that sucks balls, man. I'm sorry to hear that. :(

I have a couple OC's. I also have full video game ideas in my head that sadly will likely never leave there.

As far as actual OCs go? *points at avy* Main one is right there. (As is the other main. I have a solid 50 in all) I like making different versions of him based off of other stuff too, though, and a Sonic one was the first one so he has one there based off of his actual design. Been that way for 16 years now. I've talked about this before though, so I'm not gonna say much. It's probably just be grounds for me to be ridiculed anyways and I'm really in no mood to deal with that right now.

Posting that version seems like a bad idea too, but if nothing else, I'm glad it's not a hedgehog anymore. Still a spiky thing, but not a hedgehog or anything that'd seem like a knockoff.

Is your OC from an existing gaming/anime/etc universe or something you entirely thought up? That's pretty different from the context of what we mean by OCs. Heck, I'm making an original game with original characters!

Regardless, I think your characters look cool, so no problem at all!

I have a number of completely original characters for an idea for a game I've been thinking of for quite a while now.

Unfortunately, I can't draw for **** or really anything that would allow me to bring them out of my imagination.

Someone else would have to draw all of them or whatever for me is my main issue.

I have no problems with OC's. In fact I love them, the more terrible the better. They amuse me.

But yea, nothing wrong with doing them really. I havent really made one, the closest I got to that was when I started matching bunch of armor pieces in Dark Souls and come up with stories for characters that would wear them.

As a kid, I've made hundreds of fakemon. Even went went ahead and made an imaginary world, complete with a political map of it. Does that count?

I remember having pretty much premonitory dreams of Staraptor and Drifloon, as well as making Fakemon that pretty much became Deerling and Archen concept-wise.

Does that count?

I have a few ocs that I made for various fandoms. I've always had trouble with their personalities though. Isn't it impossible to make a OC without taking someone else's idea and warping it?

The underlined, my friend.

What you described in the first half is what my people and I call an "FC", not an "OC".

Toon Link luckily got a whole screen to himself. And I used Media Player Classic's frame step function to get the perfect shot.

Oh, and I added an outline which does a great job of hiding the rough spots.

I don't mind OC's, I mean hello:

I however, am not a fan of making OCs in existing already established franchises. I would much prefer people make their own world and story, instead of using one someone else has made. But that is just me.

Well, that was harsh, Cruiser. Sorry to hear that...
Eh, it's life. I expected this morning to be terrible and it was.

Just not for any of the reasons I anticipated. XD

It's just the first day on the job. We'll see how things go tomorrow.

I actually had quite a number of OCs (as in honest to god original characters that I thought up myself) that I planned to do something with.
I never did.

I've done the same thing. The more I made, the more they became based on existing Pokémon.

I don't have such fancy programs.
Nor do I have anything that adds an outline.
All I got is Paint.NET and terrible Computer Drawing Skills.

Well if that counts, when I was like 14 I drew a pumpkin pokemon and his whole evolutionary tree, and then gave up.

I have a few ocs that I made for various fandoms. I've always had trouble with their personalities though. Isn't it impossible to make a OC without taking someone else's idea and warping it?
Thats everything in the world essentialy. There are no "original" ideas left, there's always some more or less direct source of inspiration.

My OC is the Avatar I use he's not really based on anything other probably a mix of random JRPG tropes and the outfit is based vaguely on a outfit in a game I don't think anyone actually remembers.

He's been modified and refined since I originally created him when I was like... 15 or 16, considering he's been a concept for about half my life at this point, I'm kind of attached at this point. He's gone through a number of changes throughout the years before reaching the form he has now though he was never a fan character and am I glad for that. I was originally planning to write an actual book in regards to the character but that project continues to get stalled due to many distractions... maybe someday.

...ohhhh

To be honest, I don't know why some other people label fan characters as "OC", but I ended up adapting to that. I guess there was a misunderstanding here lol

No, there is absolutely no problems coming up with your own original story and everything. I don't believe people would have a thing against that. I mean... who would hate actual originality? Everyone with creativity makes original stuff!

So...for you guys who have experience, how do you come up with your OCs? Do you research what personalities they could have and whatnot?

They have yet to explain why or how Tingle exists across mutiple timelines.
That's quite simple. The Child timeline and the Adult timeline run side by side, and share the same universe. It could be assumed that Wind Waker and Majora's Mask take place at the same time, but in different respective universes. Tingle was simply just born in both timelines, but went on to do different things due to the changes between them.

How he ended up in Termina in one timeline, and a flooded Hyrule in another, we may never know.

But then, that one guy in the secret shop has a few masks from MM.

I'm making a 2D platformer/shooter (kind of like Mega Man genre wise) game with original characters. I haven't thought much of personalities since I don't plan to have much dialog to go with the game. And the story is kind of going to be minimal. So personalities are kind of low priority at the moment.

Last time I checked it was a top seller right behind Destiny (and Disney Infinity in US)
You can't know that, maybe if you have access to the NPD group numbers, which is an expensive subscription. I don't even know if they have weekly charts. VGChartz has a lot of guesswork and outright stealing from places like NeoGAF, and yet they dare to charge a subscription fee for their full guesswork.

Bottom line, we only have Japan's actual numbers, where it sold just over 100k.

There are PAL charts too but they don't give numbers.

Generally when I'm working on a character, I start with basic characteristics and work out the finer details from there. I usually start by defining general appearance, most obvious traits, likes, dislikes, etc etc. From there I usually move forward on define the why for those general characteristics. Why does my character like this? Why does my character behave in this way, why does he look the way he/she does? From that a decent structure can start to be built up around them.

I've found if you get too caught up in backstory too quickly is the fastest way to kill a character concept. Make your character first, focus on the development as you work through them as time goes along.
