So, I tough about it:

He still might be playable, but there's no solid thing saying so expect the stage. It doesn't matter if starter and mario rep for reason i won't elaborate because too long.

Also, I think he's unlockable now. So, we might not even know his fate until the day of release.

But what I think could happen is either playable implying a trophy or just trophy.
