Well, I guess I'll revive this thread by saying I'm back for good, baby! I finally built my computer!

Now I just need to get a different cord for my monitor. Everything is in shades of blue.

I liked math till college hit me with that yung calculus
is it differential or integral calculus?

Because tbh I just got done differential and.....ok it was challenging, but it was manageable.

idk, I am just good enough with math. I only need to pass integral calculus to have enough math to go to university so....

But I do legit kinda like math class because they are good training for the brain. I wouldn't say I look forward to these classes, but I like the thinking process.

Well, I'd still like to hear your thoughts on it.
Ok then, but it will have spoilers

DO NOT CLICK THE SPOILER BELOW IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED ON UNDERTALE!!!

I am simply going to say that this game is one of the most well engineered I saw. I still think Earthbound is better engineered, but Undertale is really up there. The way the game drives you to its plot and pretty much most encounter if you are going for TPE are genius. Even for very little thing like the game telling you have too many annoying dog while the game actually added it in your inventory without saying so.

The reason I am not interested to play it......is really the visuals. I am a fan of simple, but telling a lot, Undertale however is imo WAY too simplistic. At the limit, the overworld graphics are ok, btu the encounter really feels like they lack details. Just the fact it's black and white is really not attracting for me. And it's really how some parts feels too simple like the text scrolling......I get that they are trying to feel retro, but there's a limit to where I will simply not like that feel anymore. Like, the game doesn't look interesting, this is why I wouldn’t want to play it. I watched it however because everyone was talking about it and it was about being innovative which DOES interest me.

As for the music, it;s really good, I really like how they are playing with the separation, if you listen the ost on open back headphones like I do, it's so good. It's weird to say it, but it has that melee ost feeling where I felt I was surrounded by sounds that was just majestic. it;s the kind of ost you just listen....and nothing else because it's that good. The game does add a bit to the music, but imo, the music are so good you don't need the game to enjoy them. Honestly, this is the kind of music I would definitely get and listen if I want. It's because it's simple, but it really goes far, my favourite style :)

But now let me get to the main point: this game is the most innovative RPG that exists as of late.

I am not joking, I might criticise some flaws it had (which I will get to later) but no matter how not interested I am to play it, this is really REALLY interesting how this game is just an rpg.

Remember when I reviewed Sticker Star? That review made me find a definition for what I would call an RPG. What I came with is any game that FOCUSES on immersing the player into the role of a character and the progression of that role. The keyword is focus because games can do that without focussing on it (it's not like sm64 is an rpg because they immerses you into the level, the game is not FOCUSED on doing that).

This is why rpg classically had a levelling system, it's really a good way to make you feel the role of a character and is a very attracting way to track progress. The system even forces you to actually feel that way as being underleveiled as bad consequences. This system is so efficient that it has been used for countless time and it still works.

Sticker Star tried to move away from it, but it turned out to completely break the rpg canvas.

Undertale however, this game has done imo a very big achievement: it moved away from this system, but no one can deny it is still an rpg for other reasons.

This made me think a long time before realising that Undertale manages to be an rpg with his battles.......WITHOUT having a classic levelling system. Sure, in Genocide, it really is like an rpg with levels, but because the game is not entirely that and isn't even forcing you to do it, this isn't why the game is an rpg in itself. In fact, I realised that the mere fact the game doesn't force you is why the game is an rpg.

Let me explain the genius idea behind this: the game becomes an rpg because you actually can see your character role and progression after choosing MERCY or FIGHT. How you choose and what you choose will changes what would happen in your surrounding and since the game is built on this mechanic, the effects are VERY noticeable. so noticeable that you can clearly see a thread of progression that depends on what you fight or mercy, that thread is how you are immersed in the character role and its progression.

However, the really big pros of this was that you actually chose stuff that are even more affecting than how you plan your levelling strategy. An rpg with a level system will allow you to have progression by how you gain EXP, which works, but it is more far away than choosing between peace or war, the effects are much more prominent and the only one that lives the consequences is you, the game merely presents the choices. With a levelling, the game HAD to guide you into one thread being gain enough EXP or you will have problem later. Undertale lets you choose the thread you want which is why it's insanely good for an rpg.

This system is really ingenious. It might be a way that rpg could move away from the very popular level system.

The problem that Undertale had with this system is the endings. Let me be frank, it can be very frustrating and imo, the ending systems needs to be reworked. I honestly think it's really annoying to JUST get TPE and the amount of middle endings has very weird conditions (it's like the bosses matters A LOT more than say how much LVL you gained which imo, isn;t right). That's my big critique of this system, it allows you to choose your path which can be very annoying to manages the endings, if this system was used with less endings, but very different progression to get there, that would be perfect.

So there you have it, Undertale tbh is a very innovative RPG. Now that it has been done once and the popularity showed that it really is a genius idea, I really hope it gets refined. Undertale might not have implemented it perfectly, but now I really hope new rpg would be inspired from it, it's really interesting.

DISCLAIMER: Not only the above spoiler is my opinion only, but I have to tell that I watched a lot of footages of the game WITHOUT PLAYING IT. This is why this review isn't as detailed, but it is really all I have to say since I was never interested to play the game.

Math is the Joker to my Batman. Publicly I insist we're enemies, but we really secretly love each other.
Math is the Bowser to my Mario. (I couldn't think of anything better :p) No matter how many times I triumph over it, the darn thing just keeps coming back. But once in a blue moon, we work together to defeat a greater evil.
*cough Final Exams cough* :awesome:
