Well, I had a feeling that when it came to new characters, Sakurai-san would spring a bolt out the blue and bring in someone no one expected, and he did just that. And I have to say...I love it. Now, I've never played Final Fantasy, but getting to play as Cloud in Smash will be unbelievable. I totally love this choice.

I'm going to bet he is the winner (since Square and Nintendo kind of have a beef with one another), but this now opens the floodgates, anyone can join the series now regardless if they have a history with Nintendo or not whether good or bad.

Unless he's actually 1 of the fan service characters Sakurai talked about after Ryu's reveal.

But jokes aside, I'm glad that he is in Smash for a good reason. The Super Smash Flash 2 team literally has NO excuses to exclude him from their roster and would have to make him as an expansion like any other Smash fighter. I wonder how Damien and the other devs feel about this sudden turn of events.

Cloud didn't have a ton of support (though he still had a good bit) not because people didn't want him in, but because people didn't think he could get in, and supporting characters that don't fit in with the currently established "rules" of what characters can make it in is often considered a sin in smash speculation.

Like I've seen people be openly ridiculed for suggesting that Cloud could make it into Smash for years, sometimes pretty harshly. THAT'S why Cloud didn't have many supporters.

I can't lie, Nintendo dropped the ball on this Direct. Cloud is amazing, and they did an amazing job, but I'm already reading a million comments from everyone in chats saying it was a disappointment. Nintendo had fans waiting to see the ballot winner(s) and they didn't give it to them; nothing will suffice. It's nothing against Cloud; they could've put Jesus Christ in the game but people came to see the ballot winner and that they did not get. Nothing is more of a slap in the face than "wait another month". The first 40 minutes were a complete snooze on top of that too.

Since we didn't get our usual Smash "sword slash" intro I thought this was going to be a crossover game between FF and Smash and then I really would have lost my sh*t.

Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy have been some of my favorite Franchises for the past two decades, im actually happy with this out of left field inclusion. Final Fantasy in a Smash Bros game?! I thought it was a fanboy/fangirl's dream lol.
