Well, I suppose, but up to this point, the only Hero of Time we've had is OoT/MM Link.
I'm not denying the possibility of Female Link, just saying that a Link is not necessarily the Hero of Time.
After all, not every Link has traveled through time. I mean, OoA Link has, but you could argue that he's the Hero of "Ages", not "time".
Other Links were different heroes, like The Hero of Winds, The Hero of Twilight, and everyone's favorite: The Hero of Trains.

Simply because he has traditionally always been a he. The Hero of generations is not a Heroin. The three gender roles have well-defined precedent.

If I recall, I saw some interview from a site long ago in a far away place that had Aonuma saying he makes Link's design kinda bishounen and keeps him silent to fill the purpose of player projection. I'd interpret these as means to justify not making Link customizable, and within certain bounds.

To me, female Link would be like a female Master Chief. WutFace

I will say more a "fiction". Right now, i am working on 3 series and the one i am writing right now is the third one. It's a story revolving around gender swap. (But with a plot, and character that are character. Not just fanservice.) The other one is a parodie of FNAF and the other is also a original story who is HUGE. It's probably the longest of the trio. I can show you some stuff i writted before.

Link, as a character, isn't one person. He's divided by different incarnations that all happen to be boys. Adding a female link to the "series" of heroes isn't the same as changing his gender, because you're creating an entirely new individual.

At least, that's how I view it.
