I never noticed that. I guess it would be related to shield size. It can't be related to body size. Or else Bowser's shield could possibly cover him lol.
. . . It already can. Bowser gets about 11 seconds of 360-degree shield cover if he's not hit.

I just did a brief test and it's not related to shield size:
-Bowser actually has a fair amount of movement, and noticeably more than Sheik
-Mr. G&W has little to no movement, despite a small shield
-Peach has a lot of movement
I could compile a rough list, but this might be more useful if someone more knowledgeable in measuring distance tested this.
There could be some interesting facts uncovered in this.

From experience, falcon can't move his shield very well.
I think it's an illusion caused by the size of the character in relation to the size of the shield. I just tested all the characters with the four biggest and four smallest shields, + Marth and Falcons, and at face value the shield seems to be moving about an equal relative distance from each character's body.

Everytime I move my shield my oppenant always finds a way to read, and kicks me in the throat.

Yes he can. Go play G&W then talk about bad shield movement. Falcon has completely viable shield movement.

I dont think it has anything to do with shield size. Samus has a good decently sized shield and can't move her shield that much.
