nooooooooooooooooooooooooob

So is that the use for it? if you're running on a platform you shield so that it cuts off the need to wait for the dash animation and you can drop?

I knew about that and i think it exists in melee too
but from what i saw isai and boom shield before dropping on those tiny platforms in hyrule so it obviously doesn't cut any animations

@ Nixxon i'll make a video in a bit

I do this all the time but never really thought about why. To cancel dashes, but also, after z-cancelling an attack onto a platform, I find it easier to immediately follow with a platform-dropped aerial if I just keep holding Z.

By using a shield before dropping through a platform you don't need to wait for the character crouching animation to finish, so basically it lets you drop faster from a platform and saves some frames before you can fast-fall/attack/2nd-jump than just conventional platform dropping.

In this run, I had to use shield dropping for platform-9 as I found I could fast-fall earlier than just pressing down to crouch into dropping..

Also, you need this if you want to drop-cancel in ssb64.

THERE WE GO.... I knew it felt better for some reason. Can't believe I never thought of that. I use it all the time, especially in platform combos, but once again I never looked more carefully to see how effective it was.

its funny, after i started watching some isai vids i noticed that he used his shield before dropping through the platform. i started incorporating it into my game and it made a difference in the time it took to drop through the platform. ive always thought about bringing it up, but i figured you guys might have already talked about it, seeing as how i joined smash boards really late :)

Somehow I never knew about this.

*tests it out*

Not the most natural thing in the world to pull off yet, but this should be quite useful.
