Sheik's approach?

Hey, I'm pretty new to the community, and currently i main sheik and samus. I've gotten most of the advanced techs down, and i've played a couple of pro ppl. However, one thing i've noticed is that i'm finding myself short of approach options. Basically, I only currently have 2: dash attack and dash jc grab.

Shouldn't there be more? I mean characters like falcon and fox can be aggressive and pressure the opponent, does sheik have the ability to do that? (even if it's situational)

Currently the best i can come up with is fair/nair the opponent's shield and jab. So... should i even try to approach when i'm feeling aggressive, or is sheik just not the character to do that?

sheik's pressure game is just having the opponent in a good range for you to do moves with relative safety where they can't retaliate. and a lot of it is just waiting for something you can punish from that range.

fox/falco have shines and super fast shffls so they can spam moves without spacing on shields and be fabulous. obviously that's a slight exaggeration but sheik doesn't have a close range game like that.

sheik's grab range is really big so just grabbing a shield marth style is pretty good. other alright options (since sometimes you'll be airborne when they shield and other situational factors and realistically you can't grab as every move), you have low nairs and spacing shffl fair/bairs and then wait/jab/tilt/sidestep/grab/mini dash dance mixups. spacing tilt and then doing similar mixups is also okay, since they work at different ranges than grab and come out faster, so they can be used at different times when grab won't work.

for whether or not you should approach that's a really tough question to answer because it depends on your opponent, matchup, whether you're behind or not, etc. generally it's more risky to approach than to camp but some people suck at dealing with approaches and other times you'll just be straight up outcamped so you have to at least fake an approach if not actually approach. it's all relative.

movement and platforms is how I approach that and fake approaching like you seem aggeive and make them feel like they have to attack like getting in their face and moving very fast.

also when you're far off I think a random needle is th ebest approach it cancels anything they may try to set-up and makes them think they have to approach. plsu it's freakin free damage sheik doesn't have to worry about not having takin up a monster amount of space like falcon. so yeah throw a random needle if they are far away.

This is my board. Both of you gtfo. =3

And secondly, Sheik can approach in a sense. Her spacing is similar to Marth's where its more positional than anything else.

Your aerials aren't speedy like fox/falco's as KK said but you can space fair/bair with usually good results to force things.

Basically you'll find yourself more or less trapping opponents. However it is largely match up dependent.

If you noticed here is a great display of fox or in my case a pichu DDing aroun dding in front of sheik. needles would be nice to stop that. as in a few. If I predict it i'll avoid teczero's infaction if not i'll get grabbe dto near death chances are good because this is a great sheik place. blastzones in their favor

So i guess sheik's offensive game isn't so much going all out approach as slowly closing the gap between opponent. And once the gap is closed, do scary things like jab and tilts to get them to be scared and run away (or roll) and then chase them down.

Hmm, i know needle is one of the most annoying camping/edgeguarding moves, but can it be used to pressure? I always try to nair/fair into a shield, jab, and then jump needle to grab or something, but it rarely works. (usually end up jump needle cancel to bair as the opponent rolls behind me)

Hopefully I get to play someone today so i can try out more tactics!

ok, i played a bit more today, and i progressed (thanks to all the awesome advice!), but yet hit another roadblock. Does anybody know what to do to a sheik who's just dsmash spamming? The opponent would just wait for me to approach, and then time dsmash. like how do u punish that (with sheik)?

even though i didn't do this when i played today, i've thought about it a bit and all i can think of is dash attack.

Oh, and i'm starting to get how awesome needles are. now I just need to get adept at reverse needling/cancelling so that i can max out on the camping game :)

Needle him. Or, if you want/need to approach. Just stand a tiny bit outside dsmash range. Then punish the ending lag. Or jump over it and hit him in the ending lag.

Ok yeah, i just looked at the hitbox system. Dsmash has like 24 frames of ending lag. It just doesn't look like it because she's still rolling around (lol). Now that i know that, that dsmash spamming sheik is gonna get some :D

After their D-Smash you could just grab and d-throw chaingrab them. Chaingrabs are gay, but they work. If they're past CG percents, follow up into a combo.
