I expected myself to come in here with a full opinion based post on how I feel Sega is doing with Sonic-based games.

But there were so many posts that I was multi-quoting that I decided to not bother.

So I'll just say that I'm crossing my fingers for Project Needlemouse.
Oh, and I've enjoyed every Sonic game that I've played. I've played them all. I'm NOT over exaggerating.

Except Sonic Labyrinth. That game was horrible. I had a better time playing the Sonic popcorn maker game/Wacky World's Creative Studios. A much better time.

I think SEGA could pull off releasing a 2D console. Give it online features and stuff, but make all games 2D. If it's cheap enough, and SEGA could make some fantastic 2D games like they used to then I actually believe that would work. People are getting into classic games again, thanks to XBox Live, PSN and VC, and if they made new games like that then it'd do well.

I don't think they could pull off anything 3D console wise though.

@Sleepy= I actually forgot about the Chao Garden and Battle mode of Adventure 2. o_o
But then it's competing with other consoles that have old skool games along with the latest hot games.

I just don't see there being a market for 2D styled games nowadays. The other 3 have them as extra features, not the main feature.

Sega just needs to get their act together and make a good Sonic game well recieved from the buyers.

And Chao Garden was pretty chill. I spent 100 hours into that stuff. It gave SA 2 replay value.

And now I'm going to have to try and find one you haven't played just because I'm skeptical that way...

Have you played Sonic's Schoolhouse?

Problem with this is that many of the buyers are tools (like myself), or kids, both of which enjoy anything with Sonic's face in it somewhere. I am playing Smash Bros, right?

Oh, and Chao Raising sucked once you learned how to use the Chaos Drive/Animal glitch. Breeding chaos for perfect stats was as dull as Pokemon breeding.

Indeed I have, good sir. Even Sonic's Schoolhouse was more enjoyable than Labyrinth.

In an alternate universe.
sega will have the potential when they employ new people.

that's really my only opinion on the matter. i've only heard about the sonic games but not actually played any of them but one sonic game on one of the old sega consoles. the opinions i heard weren't exactly positive toward them as well as the shared opinions in this thread / blog.

i wouldnt mind playing any of the sonic games, but sega COULD have done so much better than they have

Sonic Unleashed could've been amazing. All they had to do was remove the night-time levels completely, and add in a slew of more daytime levels.

**** them and their need to ALWAYS throw in some stupid gimmick.

Just wanted to show this game: (Somehow on-topic at least)

Sonic Fans are working just as hard (or even harder) than SEGA, all these games are FREE

Blitz Sonic Project: The first 3D fangame emulating most Sonic games, (from 2D to Adventure to Unleashed and even a Knuckles engine)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J9q5LiifyY&feature=channel_page

Mushroom Kingdom Fusion: A Multi-game series that has a deep storyline and includes Sonic in it, along with new features and a very flexible engine under anyone's hand.

Wow, that's really awful to say, y'know. =/
Comparing some people making a fangame which they can update and take whatever time they need to with people who make their living out of developing games, have to meet deadlines and put in what the producers want them to put in.
The next time please check out other games from Sega but the recent Sonic games (that they NEED to fund their developers and other projects, by the way - without Sonic, Sega would be erased) before you're being an ******* and insult a whole company's work.

Also, these games use sprites, sounds, models and whatnot from games that ALREADY have been released! Saying they work HARDER than Sega is STUPID because they DEFINITELY don't work even slightly as hard as the graphical designers, sound designers and composers. So basically you're disregarding the whole work of these many people and say they're lazy *******s in comparison to some people using THEIR work and making a game out of it.

In a point you're right, they were those who worked on time, but they couldn't pass up on being practical with game development, I wouldn't have to start it with Sonic on this but on the 32X and the Saturn wherin each cause led to a downfall on the other, having being chained on to today in which is supposedly the Sonic franchise. Well, you wouldn't blame the production staff, but the head of it all.

Obviously, we all question that like a corrupt government of some sort. I can say that these people really that develop fan-games, really try to put themselves in hard work and that they have their own constraints in their daily life which would then slow them down. In what I have stated before, they work hard and a big "OR EVEN" is there, which means it is Probable to be true, and that I am not stating a fact but a statement of possibility. These materials they require in fangames is not necessarily "that". Since concepts, models, sounds can be found elsewhere and even be produced at home. It's not that they wanted to work less, but that they want to keep the quality of the game at its best and that there could be a follow-up to these things that could be replaced by original content in due time.

This is all in my perception and opinion, it would be hard for me too as a Sonic fan to accept things as such.
Anyway this is just discussion, don't get all heated up.

Do those people have to create sprites/3D models? No.
Do those people have to create sounds? No.
Do those people have to create music? No.
Do those people have to meet a deadline? No.
Does the whole financial life of a big company depend on their sales? No.

You can't say that the fangame-creators work just as hard or even harder than the Sega staff, at least the developers of the games, just because Sega happens to have made a few less than excellent games for a big franchise in the last few years.
And guess what, ALL those games have errors that could've been fixed if they had MORE DEVELOPMENT TIME.

It's not just a push-over to create a whole game from the very scratch on.

Again, stop focusing just on Sonic, ****it. You can't just say an entire company is lazy when you only cite ONE SERIES as an example. My lord, a bunch of Sega fair-weather fans in this topic.

The Conduit, Super Monkey Ball series, Phantasy Star Online all recieved above average scores usually. Sega release plenty of their old school games onto the Wii Virtual Console and in 360/PS3 Ultimate Genesis Collection. And... get this, they are still seen as greats critcally among reviewers. So I can't fathom how the common gamer still continue to judge Sega solely base on Sonic.
