Vader's Secret Apprentice

Vader's Secret Apperntice is an up-and-coming main character for LucasArts' new game The Force Unleashed. His storyline is simple- he's a Human male ex-Jedi trained by Darth Vader in secret, used to hunt and kill surviving Jedi from Order 66. Due to the Rule of Two, secrecy is one of his greatest allies. Since Darth Sidious and Darth Vader are those two Sith Lords, he can't be found. He'll even go to the lengths of killing Imperial allies to stay in the shadows, until he is ready to appear as Darth Vader's apprentice and overthrow Lord Sidious. From what I've heard, he's got a crush on the only other person who knows him- Juno Eclipse.

His game has not yet been released, but his addition in Brawl would be wonderful advertising; Nintendo has already done so with the inclusion of Roy in Melee. However, his inclusion would not be limited to purely for advertisement, as the Star Wars series has already created a sizable amount of games.

{A} A single lightsaber slash. 6%
{AA} Two consecutive lightsaber slashes. 9%
{AAA} Two consecutive lightsaber slashes, followed by a step forward with a Force push. 16%
{Side-Tilt} A lightsaber slash aimed at the knees. 14%
{Up-Tilt} Secret Apprentice raises his off-hand, letting out a small burst of Force Lightning. 7%
{Down-Tilt} Crouched position, the user sends a small tremor through his hands into the ground in front of him. 9%
{Up Smash} An upward slash, comparable to the first slash of Link's Up-smash. When charged, it emanates with a bluish Force aura. 16-22%, moderate knockback
{Down Smash} Secret Apprentice floats a foot off the ground and white Force energy emanates from his feet. Little knockback, 13-18%
{Side Smash} The user turns off his lightsaber and pulls it close to him, the quickly stabs it forward and turning it on as he does it. Moderate knockback, 16-23%
{Nair} The user emanates himself in Force energy, much akin to Mewtwo’s N-air. 14%, little knockback
{Uair} The user uses his lightsaber to slash two consecutive slashes. 15%
{Dair} The user spins in air, sending a crescent blade of Force energy to spike enemies. 12%, spike-worthy knockback
{Fair} The user spins in air, sending a crescent blade of Force energy upwards to divert attacks from above. 14%, moderate knockback
{Bair} A small lightning aura surrounds the direct vicinity behind him. 11%, stun
{B} Chain Lightning: Secret Apprentice builds up dark Force energy, then releases it with a chain lightning attack. The longer it is charged, the further it goes and the more damage it causes. 4-22%, goes about as far as just in front of them to about the length of two platforms of Battlefield. If another entity is near the target, it is also targeted as a part of the chain. The second entity must be within a Battlefield panel from the first target, and the third must either a the same length from the first target as the second target is, or half a Battlefield panel from the second target. If more than one target is hit, each additional target takes 2/3 of the damage inflicted to the main target. Moderate knockback
{Side-B} Kinetite: A small ball of raw kinetic energy. It looks like Samus’ B-attack when uncharged, although travels at the speed of her tilt-missile. 11-14%
{Up-B} Force Jump: The user reaches into the Force to extend his jump beyond that of a normal jump. He also holds his lightsaber forward when he does so, a lot like Marth’s Up+B. 7-12%
{Down-B} Force Repulse, lesser: A move made by the Secret Apprentice himself. The user is engulfed in blue Force energy, flinging opponents and projectiles away. Projectiles are reversed like Mario's cape when the attack and players are flung away like being hit by a less effective shine. Only lasts for up to two seconds.
{Z} Force Choke: The person is grabbed and choked by Force Grip. 1% per second the target is grabbed for.
{A while grabbed} Force Lightning: The victim gets a shock shot through his body. 2%
{Forward} Force Push: The target is flung forward without being touched. It won't do as much as grab attacks of other characters due to the damage-over-time of being grabbed in the first place. High knockback, 6%
{Backward} Force Push: Same as forward, but flung to the back of the user. Moderate knockback, 4%
{Upward} Force Push: Same as forward, but flung upwards instead. Moderate knockback, 7%
{Downward} Spear of the Midnight Black: The target is flung at the floor, then stabbed by a spear created from concentrated Force energy. Little knockback, 9%

{Final Smash} Force Repulse Unleashed: A main point in his home game is the use of extreme forms of attacks. His signature attack, Force Repulse is shown in the game's trailer. It is a larger form of his Down-B, engulfing a large portion of the screen in a circular shape. It sends people flying back with high knockback and causes an undecided amount of damage (I cannot say, as I don't know how to balance something we haven't been able to measure yet).

Wow, thanks for the awesome info and trailer on the new game, but I doubt he'd make it into Brawl ;)

... that game seriously looks awesome though >.>

I believe Nintendo would be willing to advertise for his new game, as they already did with Roy’s inclusion for the new Fire Emblem game at the time.
I don't know if Nintendo would be willing to advertise Vader's Secret Apprentice like they did Roy for a couple reasons. 3rd party vs 2nd party. It wouldn't cost Nintendo a dime to add in Roy as an advertisement because he's 2nd party; Vader's Secret Apprentice is 3rd party so it would cost Nintendo money if he were to be included.

Also other 3rd Party characters like Sonic, Megaman even Pacman have more incentive to be in the game other than for purely adverstisment purposes; considering they have an established gaming history.

Vader's Secret Apprentice doesn't have much of chance to make it into Brawl. A very well done moveset however ^_^

Even without the need to advertise, some type of Force-sensitive (Sith or not) still has a chance. If the Secret Apprentice was included, advertisement would just be a plus. With a little alteration, it could be Darth Vader that gets included. Vader himself has a large fanbase and a multitude of games that he has starred in.

Oh sorry about that I knew Fire Emblem was 1st party to begin with. I don't know why I was thinking about it being 2nd party (I bit focused on Golden Sun I suppose).

A force-senstive player would be cool but I personally do not think this game needs to be advertised. It has caught people's eyes enough. Also remember that up until SSBM, Fire Emblem was hardly known tot he American audience. Star Wars...well....let's just leave it at that.

Star Wars is hardly known to the Japanese audience.
Actually I have no idea.

It seems no one likes Star Wars. Maybe it should be converted into a Doshin the Giant thread.

How can you say that this game looks lame? It's basically a sequel to KotOR, which has a huge fan-base. Just the plot of this game makes me warm inside :chuckle:
My goodness, it better not be a KOTOR sequel...I liked the style of Kotor and this is nothing like it...

...I think this idea is lame...the game itself doesn't look that bad...

Um, no, this is not a KotOR sequel. Not only is the game play nothing like that series (it appears to be created specifically for this one game, where KotOR's was taken from the d20 3.0/3.5 rules), but its set thousands of years after KotOR.

Incidentally, I agree with PsychoIncarnate, story-wise at least. Vader having a secret apprentice kinda wreaks havoc with the existing Star Wars lore. Especially if he lives through the game (which I bet he doesn't, in an effort to help it fit into the canon, but even that won't help much).

But anyway, if we were to get a Star Wars character in Brawl, I'd expect someone better known. Kyle Katarn, perhaps - he started as a video game character, and I think at least one of his games was on a Nintendo system. In any event, Star Wars is as unlikely as third-party options come, being as it didn't begin as a video game series, its games are second banana to the movies and novels, and the most popular of the games (KotOR) never made it to a Nintendo system; so anyone from the series is stuck with a snowball's chance in hell.

You mis-read my comment.

"It's basically, a sequel to KotOR"
"Basically, a sequel to KotOR"
"Bascally, a sequel"
"Basically, sequel"
"BASICALLY"

... >.> the playing style seems very similar-- but not like the "take turns fighting" crap. From the looks of things, you'll have your choice to be dark or light side (KotOR), other people will take notice of your actions, and respond in a certain way (KotOR).

No, I didn't misread your comment, you're simply making too much of things you're assuming. The turn-based combat was the whole basis of KotOR's fighting system (hence the"based" part of the term "turn-based combat") - if you're familiar with d20 games such as Dungeons & Dragons, thats where it comes from. Take that out and you have an entirely different system (especially since they'd most likely scrap the dice-based system for attacks, force powers, saves, etc with it, being as it is designed wholly around the turn-based combat system and would be a pain to work with without it).

As for choosing alignments/moral path and gaining allies who respond to your actions, thats a standard aspect of many different games, hardly one unique to KotOR. In any event, the only one of those suggested on the site is the alignments one (hinted at in multiple endings comment, although that doesn't necessitate it) - the apprentice's allies seem to be no more than a Droid with disguise abilities and his ship's pilot.

1. You may be right about the combat situation, however this game DOES replace the canceled KotOR III game. Everything about this game (besides the placement of time and the "combat") relates to the past KotOR games. There's just no denying that.

this is lucas arts we're talking about.

One of the biggest companies ever. This'd be more hard than trying to get Sora's rights

and off-topic: KOTOR = best rpg evar.

Actually, while not as popular in the States, Japan knows the movies well and are popular over there as well. While, they may not know about this upcoming game but Star Wars is popular enough to have it's all manga series. I almost pulled this from IMDB
IMDB said:
Alan Ladd Jr was very anxious when he attended the premiere in Japan, only to be met by total silence at the end. What Ladd didn't realize was that silence is the greatest honor that a Japanese audience can bestow on a film.
Star Wars is known very well in Japab. Trivia! Darth Vader is Dasu Bader (the "u" in "su" being silent) in Japanese.

Everything about it? What are you talking about? The only similarities are those inherent in it being about a Star Wars character who uses the force. That doesn't link them any more than it does KotOR and the Jedi Knight games that starred Kyle Katarn.

It's not like Kotor, is more like Jedi Academy from what i have seen, this coming from me, a mad geek who owns all the Star Wars games for the Xbox, cough cough.

But why would "he" get in, instead of Lord Vader, Fail.

And of course no SW character would get in...

It's weird that I'm the only one that sees the similarities between the two games, or maybe I'm just going nuts? You're the main character, walking around, choosing your alignment, selecting your own actions... seems pretty relative to KotOR if you ask me.

What the hell happened with NSider anyways? All of a sudden a billion members from there join up here... It was rather sudden :)

And yes, the last bit was unecessary, but amusing :D

Still, KoTOR was just a nifty looking RPG, this seems more like a common Star Wars adventure game, sure the choosing your alingment might add a bit of RPG to it, but i doubt you can create your own items or go around towns buying stuff.

KotOR = RPG
Force Unleashed = action/adventure game

star wars: the force unleashed is a story of redemption (ie. start out bad guy, become good guy). so your not choosing your alignment or actions like you said. its got a preset story. similar? wft!

Erm, not as popular? I think it would be a bit of a toss-up, Star Wars is still EXTREMELY popular in the states.

Furthermore, I don't think acquiring rights would put the impetus on Nintendo, if it was advertising a game that wasn't out, Lucasarts would be asking for placement, and paying Nintendo for advertising it's product.

You aren't force to "redemption", you can choose your alignment accordingly. That's... pretty similar to KotOR, is it not?

This thread is turning into a debate about the Force Unleashed game itself, rather than the Secret Apprentice's appearance in Brawl.

Ok, no. Picking aligninement does not make it like Kotor's sequal, it's just one factor, and the games, besides being set in the same universe, and this, are quite dissimilar.

Ultimately, he'd make an interesting charecter, however I don't think Lucasarts would be interested in using Smash to advertise, and furthermore, I don't think Nintendo would wish it anyway. Furthermore, owing to Smash's patterns (not putting in charecters in a series before putting in the main character of the series, in this case Luke, who first appeared in movies) it's rather unlikely.

Furthermore, though the character is cool, there are plenty of far better and more appropriate charecters. Still, I give him a 1% chance.

That may not make it a sequel (I never said it was the sequel to KotOR), but a lot of things look similar in this game to some features in KotOR. Not only the alliance selection, but also (as I said before) the reactions of other characters, responding to your choices.

We really don't need to go on with a full-length discussion about this, here. All that I'm saying is that this game looks awesome, and reminds me of the KotOR series. M'kay?

Furthermore, I'm done ;)

I didn't think anyone was going to reply to this thread. I guess I was wrong.

Where did everyone get this stuff about alignment? From what I've read, you're pretty much a Dark-sider- you know, with hunting Jedi and working for Vader. The only thing somewhat related to choosing your alignment would be the multiple endings it will have, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be allowed to become a Jedi/light-sider.

@Groundwalker: Thanks for pointing that out. I'll take that into account. I don't know anything about Japan other than the fact they have good tentacles and video games come from there.

@GigaKoopa: No one said he was going to originate in a movie. I'm pretty sure he wasn't featured in the two trilogies we've seen (the third was expressed that it won't become movies). The Force Unleashed (where he's originating from) is actually a multimedia project centered around a video game. So yes, he will originate in a video game. Whether it's the Force Unleashed or as a guest in Brawl is up to the game creators.

Of course, we KNOW what it's going to be. SA4B

@Zevox: Vader has had many apprentices in his career as a Dark Lord. Lumiya, one of them, starred in five novels, was mentioned in many others and also had appearances in the comics. She also caused a large turning point, in which she trained Jacen Solo (Luke's nephew) as a Sith.

I read it somewhere while searching "Force Unleashed" in Google. I read it at a forum, so it might not be completely accurate, but where does it say that you don't get to choose your actions (alignment wise)? The whole "party character reactions" thing is a big hint to that, if you ask me.

SA4B.

And, Vader had other apprentices? How come he's deciding to keep this one apprentice "secret"? Unless he's done that with all of his other students.

All Secret, from what he said in Empire Strikes Back, it's doubtful Luke was the first person he approached about this, that's sort of the premise of the game. Cannonically speaking however, they all have to leave or die at some point.

It does say you can choose your actions, but I thought it was just actions to change the ending, not your alignment. I thought being Vader's apprentice meant you had to be a part of the dark side.

The Sith have something called the Rule of Two, saying there will only be two Sith at any time. This is because of a great war caused by betrayals of Sith against Sith for more power. So Darth Sidious and Darth Vader are the two Sith allowed. Vader keeps all his apprentices secret, because it is breaking Sith law.

@adumbrodeus: That isn't fair to say; all characters die at some point. Lumiya lasted a long time after Vader died, too.
