Very likely, but I changed it since not EVERYONE is a rabid Notre Dame fan. Just most people ^_^

Iggy - yeah, points were reworked. The gist of it is that it is MUCH harder to advance by one placing (say from 25th to 17th, or 3rd to 2nd) late in the tournament than it is at the beginning, so you should be rewarded more for late-tourney wins. Using the old system, Tim was rewarded for beating Tink in the same way that he was rewarded for beating Trix (no offense to Trix, of course ^_^). Also, the old system said that getting 2nd place was 90% as good as getting first place. I don't think anyone would agree with that statement. Finally, look at the brackets and see how many "good" people Tim beat as opposed to me, who got 5th. The old system says I get 60% of the points that Tim gets, but for what? I did NOT beat over half as many "good" people as Tim beat - more like 20%, and the new point system reflects that.

I can give plenty more details, but it'd be easier to discuss in person. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

fair enough, I think my attached image was still too good though.

edit: its sorta like MLG anyway, you get kinda screwed over by missing one of them, heh. As in, harder to break into the pros/top in points in this case.

Technically, this sytem makes it EASIER to miss an event. By placing high, you give yourself breathing room. With the old system, Tim would only have a 1-pt lead on Tink, which will disappear EVEN IF Tink gets LAST place at COKE2 (since Tim's not going).

Tim has a 15 point lead on Tink right now, which means that if Tink doesn't get at least 4th place then he won't catch up. Of course, if Tim would only show up and take last place, Tink would actually need to get top three in order to pass him. Realistically, this is how it should be.

I'm comin back and gettin top 10 at COK2 stupid marth its ok tho I won't be stubborn and stay peach this time.... the foxeth cometh and questions jeff

IF eddie doesnt show to COK2 and i dont get to team with him and i team with sum1 else... my and eddies points stay for the individual points???? or do our teams points just disappear cuz i can team with eddie for everything but COK prolly

Like if i move up from 9th to say 5th at COK if eddie and I team at SMYM I'll have those points but eddie wont??? so it'll put me down in placement for seeding???

and if i team with sum1 with 0 points that takes me down to ppl that have 6 pts that team being above me???

Ummm... I'm a bit confused by your questions, but hopefully I can clarify things. Individual team points are earned regardless of who your partner is. At each event, seeding is based on the sum of the points you and your current partner have accumulated throughout the season.

A team "unit" earns points at every event it is present at, and these points never go away this season. This is NOT used for seeding, but instead is what is used to determine the end-of-season bonus winners. The bonus will be present to the highest-ranking TEAM, not the highest-ranking INDIVIDUAL TEAM PLAYER; note the difference.

So Big C, if Eddie can't team with you at COKII and you team with someone else, you will not be seeded with zero points. Your team will be seeded based on your FRI2 points (plus your partner's FRI2 points if he was there). You will earn more individual team player points for your performance at COKII, but it won't affect your team unit with Eddie in any way, good or bad.

So, essentially, you're helping your team with Eddie out by showing up to COKII and earning more individual points. This will help your seeding at SMYM6, but it won't directly help your efforts in earning the Team Bonus.

Sorry for my long-windedness. Does that help, or did I just confuse you more? Also, wanna team at COKII if Prime bails? ^_^

Easier to miss an event that's not the first one? Like MLG? <.< heh.

Well, no. It doesn't matter what event you miss since the points don't degrade over time. Missing FRI2 is the same as missing COKE2, SMYM6, or FOB5.

MLG's system right now is terrible because pros are GUARANTEED points at every event they attend since they are guaranteed to be in the Pro Bracket. Meanwhile, highly-skilled "amateurs" (Azen, Chillin', Darkrain, Drephen...) take each other out before even getting to the pros, and thus get zero points. So as long as they continue attending events, pros will almost certainly remain pro since they consistently gain points even if they go two-and-out.

The Midwest Circuit doesn't have this problem due to the nature of the point system. Obviously, missing an event is a sure-fire way to endanger your ranking; that will be true with any point-based ranking system. If you want a non-point ranking system, check out the Smash Power Rankings, which is done by voting. Since there's no real unbiased method of doing that for the Midwest alone, this is the best we have.

Just look at it this way: attendance is a part of skill; you can't win if you don't show!

well, wouldn't missing the first event going into the second have more of an impact? or just how much is the pool seeding going to affect seeding into the bracket? Or is it just that the points from last time affect how easy/hard your pools will be?

The lack of understanding I have in that is probably the problem <.<

Exactly. Points are used to seed the RR pools. The RRs themselves are what seed the bracket. Having points will simply give you an easier RR pool, which will improve your bracket seeding.

So while having points is better for you, it's not the end-all determining factor of how well you'll do. Missing other Circuit events doesn't doom your performance, but it will really hurt your chances of earning that bonus.

Remember, the entire point of the Circuit is to encourage participation by offering incentives to consistently attend. Getting together and playing is the best way to improve the overall skill of the MW, so hopefully we won't get last place among US regions at the next FC/OC.

Haha, so much time to kill when you sit in front of a computer all day. At least I'm making money doing it ^_^

I'm also subscribed to this thread, so I get an email everytime someone replies (hence my quick responses).

Iggy, PM me your email address for Purdue!

We wouldn't have gotten last at FC among US crews if you didn't get sick.

I'm guessing that the EC and S crews both had people missing that would have made their crew stronger. Considering it's a MW event, missing one person shouldn't make us get last :ohwell:

I think you should post everyone that attends, even if they have 0 points. It'll actually translate into a roster of Midwest smashers!

It'll all balance out Ignat! Stop whining when you made the finals!

And you probably did deserve it too.

Points obviously take awhile to sort out, just look at MLG.
