Welp, sorry for all these very long waits. I posted it before but I had a small accident. First for all, Madeleine sketch.
Secondly, time for the review of the previous jobs.
First off, all color sets will be added, also since there is no collision between any special costume, all of them will be added, thought no one has submitted one for Peppino. Feel free to submit a suit for him for the duration of the next job.

There is a slighty doubt about the overlapping between Celeste Mountain and SnowDin, but since there it wasn't be any sort of countersubmission and people doesn't seem to mind that much, they will also be added normally.

  1. Ryouta Kawara
  2. Wheel of Fortune
  3. Pressure Washer
JOB 16
RESULTS
The selected items will be Butterscotch Pie, Wheel of Fortune, Cauldron, Pressure Washer and Ryouta Kawara. The last 3 being in a triple tie, but since they are items, I think its fair.
  1. Pressure Washer 5
  2. Ryouta Kawara 5
  3. Cauldron 5
  4. Mallet 3
  5. Wheel of Fortune 6
  6. Music Box 2
  7. Butterscotch Pie 16
JOB 18
VOTATIONS
Premise Submission:

I'm slightly confused by the idea behind this job, but I might just be tired, here's my best shot.

Generally, honestly, I wanna avoid any multiverse/ultimate tournament vibes for this. And I wanna lean into the aesthetic of a Little Big Planet style "world of creativity" type thing. The world would be one created by the imagination of people, represented by scribbles, doodles, and other arts and crafts things. The characters all exist in this hodgepodge world, and some even already know eachother, giving off slight Project X Zone vibes.

This would give us a flexible world that doesn't have to play everything exactly as they were, and can give us sillier interpretations of more serious characters, allowing them to blend into the game without clashing.

I really do think taking inspiration from Little Big Planet would be a great move, I'd love the game to celebrate the idea of creativity and that anyone can dream up and make an Indie game, more than getting caught in celebrating "a bunch of cool games that all happen to be indie".

Apologies if I misinterpreted the job in some way
Premise:
The world of indie games is all doodles because of an artifact. But an original character steals the artifact, causing the world to become more realistic. All the indie characters must team up in order to return the artifact back to its proper place and defeat the OG character.
Job #018: I reckon keeping things simple is a smart idea, so I'll take a little influence from Smash 64 for the story.

Basically, everything's always been in this hand-drawn style, and the world itself is made up of a mishmash of different indie games in this style, referred to as the Collage. Sometimes, the Collage is expanded, with new locations appearing - stuck to the world with tape and glue, and bringing forth plenty of new faces and faces.

Now, while there is supposedly an extraordinarily powerful trinket hidden somewhere in the world, nobody actually knows what or where it is, other than the fact that it's called the Mysterious Object... but everyone assumes it'll be useful to somehow help them with something, which will change depending on the character. Obviously, this leads to combat... or perhaps not? Who knows what'll happen!

Mechanically... I reckon it'd be fun to take a little inspiration from Shovel Knight and Super Mario Bros. 3.

Each location in Collage roughly corresponds to the game's stages, and you can travel to each "stage" to enter it - though, this won't have you engage in combat with different foes, but will instead work a little like settlements. A couple of characters will be in each "stage" (which uses the same model as the actual stage, but has new characters milling around, and isn't used for combat), and serve different functions - some can help give you buffs through a shop system, while others might give you sidequests for some kind of reward, that sort of thing.

Actually doing battle with foes comes about by making contact with another character on the world map, immediately initiating some kind of battle. This isn't always a traditional battle, though - depending on the enemy you're up against and when and where you are, they might challenge you to different minigames, or even battles with strange rules or modifiers. After defeating them, they'll go into hiding for a while, but they'll come back after a while. All of this is pretty much bookended with VN-styled interactions both before and after the match, which helps keep things simple but gives them character.

As you progress through the world, more of Collage is attached, introducing new foes to do battle with and locations to explore. Your goal's simple - cross the whole of Collage and recover the Mysterious Object!... before your rivals.

With this in mind, there's a lot of fun things you could go for with a really open-ended vibe. For instance, characters might be looking for the Mysterious Object for any number of reasons; Peppino might just want to support his business, but Shovel Knight might want to keep it out of the hands of ne'er-do-wells. Likewise, characters with Special Costumes that give them the appearance of different characters (ie, Curly Brace or Fish Head, just as examples) could appear as seperate characters on the world map with their own interactions, bolstering the world beyond just its base roster. Plus, you could always have "coins" won in combat work both with the story mode shops, but also with unlockables like bonus costumes, blind-bag pins, and other such things.
Since there where just 3 submissions, you will only vote for 1 of the 3 options. While they all sound sorta similar with the idea of all the characters existing in a world of their own, they have their own differences in practice so its better give an opportunity for each of them to see who is the winner option.

JOB #19
LET'S GET SOME TUNES!
Submit up to 3 songs from any of the indie games with a stage of their own (Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Pizza Tower, Undertale, Cave Story, Celeste, Vampire Survivor). It can be either one of each or 3 of the same game; don't think on arrangements, I'll leave that just to the imagination of each one, focus on just submitting the song you'll want; also notice that the idea is that while of course indie games are known for having some kick ass music, the objective is try to mantain the playlists rather small, so if a series reach more than 12 tracks, it would be required a votation to decide which songs should be left.
JOB #20
PIN IT UP!
Submit up to 2 pins! They are the collectable of this game, if you want to know what you'll need. KneeOfJustice99 KneeOfJustice99 made a helpful example for it using the almighty Mothman as an example!
Job #14; I honestly really like some of the submissions that've already been made! But... I may as well propose something a little "out-there." Namely... Pins! The idea behind these is that they'd be collectables that'd also work in a handful of other game modes, if you wanted - I'm mainly thinking a game mode akin to a mix between shuffleboard and curling would lend well to this. Let me explain.

Each Pin would feature a design based on a character, item, location, or some other element from a different indie game/series, and would have a name, number, and rarity associated with them - plus a short blurb explaining what the actual subject is. They'd also have stats for Weight and Spin, which would be applied to a couple of unique game modes (that I'll get to in a moment), as well as a unique special ability which can either be a passive or active.

I'll first propose a template example in a similar vein to Bolverkaiser's, deliberately going with an example that wouldn't apply in this thread.

Name: Mothman
Series: Shin Megami Tensei
Number: No. 000
Rarity: ★★☆
Weight: ★★☆
Spin: ★★★
Ability: Shibaboo (Passive)
When directly hit by a Pin with higher weight than itself, Mothman will automatically create a cloud around itself for one turn, which passively slows Pins that move through it.
Blurb:
A demon of the Wilder race, Mothman's fuzzy form belies a slightly troubling history of appearances as a West Virginia cryptid from the 1960s to the 1980s.

As for game modes, I'm thinking they'd mostly be tabletop interpretations of something a bit like a cross between shuffleboard, curling, and pool. Each player would be able to hold up to three pins at the start of battle, placing as many as they like on the board and then charging up a "flick" to move the pins across the board. The goal of the mode would be to knock your opponent's pins off the board while keeping your own on the board, though if at any point you have no pins left on the board, you'll need to put at least one remaining pin there - and the winner is the last person to still have pins, be they in play or in reserve.

This is where the Weight and Spin variables come into play; pins with higher Weight hit harder, and deal more knockback, but don't travel as far from flicks, and have a higher amount of friction slowing them down. Comparatively, pins with higher Spin have a more curved firing direction - but higher Spin usually gets offset by lower flick speed. Likewise, the special abilities that Pins have are split into Passive or Active; Passive abilities are usually either always active or are activated by certain scenarios, whereas Active abilities are activated manually with the A button, but usually have a cooldown of a couple of turns. Could also be fun for certain pins to have set-bonuses when paired together, be they from the same series, or having some kind of connection to each other.

While a "battle mode" would probably be the main appeal, you could still do some other variations on the mode too; something like curling, trying to get the closest pin to a given target, or a variation of table hockey, where you need to get your pins into your opponent's goal while using your pins to defend your own, could be a lot of fun to play around with. Obviously, I wouldn't want this to spiral too much out of control in terms of complexity, but there's a lot of potential with a mode like this (ie, if you wanted to take the King of Cards approach of a side story centred on this game mode, it'd lend well to that.)

A LITTLE HELP?
It's not a secret that I'm quite inneficient for running a thread, even if I enjoy doing this sort of stuffs, I'm not the best in keeping up to specific days and things like that, so I want to ask if anyone of you would be willing to help me? How so it's very simple, if I get someone interesed I'm starting to put deadlines again, and this person can do the counting and announce the results if I hadn't did it first, trust me just having someone do that would help me a lot, so again it would be extremely helpful and will help in fast a bit more this thread.

Don't worry too much about the wait. Things happen, and ultimately, it's better for everyone that you're safe and well-rested! When it comes to a bit of help with stuff like this, it'd be a pleasure to do what I can (though I'll admit my own use of the site gets spotty at times). Also, cute Madeline!! These drawings have really given so much life to the concept...

Peppino: A few funny ideas for this occurred to me (including a costume that's very obviously just Peppino dressed up as Anton from Antonblast), but it feels more fitting to go with a character actually from Pizza Tower. (Note; I did consider something inspired by the Halloween Update, but I think this is more fun.)

Costume Name: Gustavo
Costume Origin: Pizza Tower (2023)
1743095346154.gif

Might seem like a weird choice, but Gustavo's been described as the Mario to Peppino's Wario, so I think this kind of makes sense (and feels a little more inspired than Fake Peppino.) Mechanically, he's pretty much identical aside from changes to his animation to make him a little more in line with his slightly less... chaotic appearance. The main change of note is that his charge special is now Brick Ball, which kicks forward Brick as a larger but less powerful projectile rather than utilising his shotgun, but otherwise, Brick is usually lazing about in the background and chomping on cheese. (Notably, to ensure hitboxes remain the same, Gustavo won't be riding Brick in combat - but maybe he is in the world map or during intro/outro animations.)

Job #18:
I'll vote for MartianSnake's "World of Creativity". I really like the idea of leaning into creativity in this world, and the idea of indie games narratively being a way to express creativity is absolutely fantastic for a project like this - both narratively, and in a meta sense. And hell, LittleBigPlanet inspiration gives us the opportunity to have someone give calming voiceovers for the story mode or the arcade mode. (Bennett Foddy in a role deliberately calling back to Stephen Fry's could be pretty cute.)

Job #19:
May as well take a crack at this too.

The Flying Machine (Shovel Knight) - One that's on the more difficult side... darn. May as well go for a neat mix.
  • Thermal Vent (Dig) - In grand opposition to the skies, I think Dig's soundtrack is fantastic enough that we'd be remiss not to at least pull something from it. This one's picked for two reasons; both because it's Mole Knight's stage theme here (another later member of the Order), and because I really like it.
Subconscious Versum Hill (Bomb Rush Cyberfunk) - A hard game to limit music selections for! Hopefully this makes sense.
  • Chuckin' Up - Another solid pick specifically used in boss fights, including DJ Cyber's own fight later in the game. Plus, it's something that feels more outright adept to being used for fighting music - has a pretty hard vibe, I reckon.
Snowdin Town (UNDERTALE) - Three for three on being hard to pin down... I'll pull a KFAD and try and keep this submissions specifically to Papyrus.
  • Dating Battle Medley! - Okay, this one's a sillier inclusion, but I think it'd be fun. The dating segment is one of Papyrus's more memorable segments, and I think it's also just a really goofy pacebreaker that'd get more serious as time goes on, progressing from Start to Tension and onto Fight.
I'll leave it to that for now. I'm not too familiar with the music of the other games we've got submitted.

Job #20: Given we only get two Pins total, I'll draw back my field of submissions and just keep it to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk stuff. I'm also going to take a shot in the dark and assume we're not suggesting Pins specifically for our playable characters? Feel free to tell us if that's not the case. Anyway,

Name: Franks
Series: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Number: No. 001
Rarity: ★☆☆
Weight: ★★★
Spin: ★☆☆
Ability: Ballin' (Passive)
When hitting a Pin with lower weight than itself, Franks will flip that Pin into the air for a moment, allowing it to pass over walls and potentially fall right out of the field of play.
Blurb:
The kings of the court, defending their claim on Versum Hill. Despite their patchwork nature, each and every one of them is well-aware of their roots.
Notes:
I'm going to suggest that the Franks are represented with one of their graffiti pieces rather than just an image of their actual characters, a little like how TWEWY represents its own pins with unique designs inspired by different elements and functions. This isn't necessary by any means, just feels fun.

Name: FUTURISM
Series: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Number: No. 002
Rarity: ★★☆
Weight: ★☆☆
Spin: ★★★
Ability: Chemical Warfare (Active)
Pressing the A button while FUTURISM is moving will have it spray out a toxic cloud of green chemicals, which reduce the friction of Pins that it comes into contact with for one turn.
Blurb:
DJ Cyber's crew, owning the heights of Mataan with skill and finesse. Always looking for openings to expand, they'll use any means to keep their turf.
Notes:
Similar to the Franks, I'll suggest FUTURISM's represented with their graffiti rather than an image of them. Might seem odd for me to go with two gangs instead of characters, but I'm sure there's likely to be plenty of characters represented, so going for something a little out-there helps keep things fresh.

PIN SUBMISSION
1743219534113.png
Name: Grub
Series: Hollow Knight
Number: No. 003
Rarity: ★☆☆
Weight: ★★☆
Spin: ★☆☆
Ability: Grubsong (Active)
If Grub is hit, pressing A will reduce its momentum, allowing to not be thrown out of the field at the first try.
Blurb:
Lonely grubs who sing a sad melody craving for home. Spend as much time as you can with your local grub.
Notes:
While not a big character, the grubs are quite a popular and recognizable element of Hollow Knight as their equivalent to Kologs (but less annoying to get all)

1743220238880.png
Name: Balrog
Series: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Number: No. 004
Rarity: ★★☆
Weight: ★★★
Spin: ★☆☆
Ability: Huzzah! (Active)
Pressing the A button after Balrog was hit will make it leap vertically and fall to the floor with force ready to make his opponents fly away.
Blurb:
Misery's partner and punching bag on their mission to accomplish the goals of the Doctor. Ultimately, a friend.
Notes:
I think it would be funny if he uses his portrait that is too small to fit him completely.

Music:
All of these are very basic but effective options, the later 2 are basically their most popular themes and the former is the theme of the main playable character so they are more than fitting here.

I lament the tardiness, this time I forgot today it was an important birthday event, but I finished what I needed to do, the last character drawing, say hi to Renata!
Now all the characters have drawings! I will upload edits of all the images with their respective colors and publish them over time, then link their colors to the main page. However Renata herself doesn't have a submitted palette yet afaik, so if you have any idea, it would be helpful!

Then moving on to the resume of what it was last week:
All the submitted music will be added! Honestly I was expecting more music to be submitted and that's why I put quite hard limits, but since that wasn't the case, the job will be extended and people can now submit 6 songs, note that if you already submitted 3 songs, then you can only submit other 3 more!

The pins will be now be a Challenge!, which means you can submit new pins any time you want, I really encourage people to try since they are very fun and are an important part of this concept.
Today's job is a character job! And it is...
JOB #21
SUBMIT A CHARACTER FROM A MOBILE GAME!

The mobile scene is usually understimated due the amount of shovelware that we find inside the stores, but I sure you, there are some very good gems there! For reasons, games released in console or PC that got a mobile port are NOT allowed (examples: Dead Cells, Hades, etc), however, mobile games that got a PC/Console port after their mobile version are more than fine! (examples: Monument Valley, Florence, etc), games that released both on mobile and on PC/Consoles at the same time will also be allowed.

Btw while unnecesary at the moment, KneeOfJustice99 KneeOfJustice99 and osby osby have shared interest in voluntary in this thread, so in the future, they might publish the vote results!

Job 21: Don Quixote (Limbus Company)

Don_Quixote_StandingSprite.png

Don Quixote is a playable character from a south korean game Limbus Company, made by Project Moon, she is a sinner from Limbus Company Bus Apartment

I could submit another characters as a Cookie Run character or Red from Angry Birds, but i think Don Quixote is a good choice for i submit, and she is popular

Aww, Renata looks adorable in that style! And, well, seems like we've got some fun tasks on our hands! Let's take a crack at it.

Subconscious Versum Hill:
  • Scraped on the Way Out - Might seem like an odd choice, but it's a theme pretty specific to the stage at hand, given it plays when this stage is introduced in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I also think an outright weirder song playing in the background could lend well to some more dream-inspired vibes for a given match, if you wanted to go down that route.
Flying Machine:
  • A Cargo of Fineries (Specter of Torment) - I think we'd be remiss not to include some stuff from the other parts of the Treasure Trove, and it helps that this rework of the Flying Machine's leitmotif is also just really good.
Egg Corridor:
  • Eyes of Flame - Boss fight music tends to lend really well to fighting games (for good reason), and this one feels like something of a standout in that sense. It's also interesting that this fight music tends to apply more to foes for whom you have to attack weak points... maybe it'll encourage players to exploit the weaknesses of their foes?

Name: Propeller Knight
Series: Shovel Knight
Number: No. 005
Rarity: ★★☆
Weight: ★★☆
Spin: ★★☆
Ability: Headwind (Active)
Pressing the A button while moving has Propeller Knight create a powerful headwind in his direction of movement, stopping him in place but potentially pushing other Pins away. This headwind is more effective on lighter Pins.
Blurb:
A member of the Order of No Quarter. He treats his uncontested dominion over the skies as a great source of pride.
Notes:
Trying to determine how to represent the Shovel Knight cast is a little difficult. I ultimately settled on their dialogue portraits from Treasure Trove, given they seem pretty fitting for this sort of thing. Admittedly, this isn't perfect, and I'd be more than open to suggestions for alternatives.

Name: Annoying Dog
Series: UNDERTALE
Number: No. 006
Rarity: ★★★
Weight: ★☆☆
Spin: ★★★
Ability: Attack of Dog (Passive)
When hitting another Pin, Annoying Dog will bite onto it, essentially sticking the Pins together. This can significantly mess with that Pin's trajectory when moved, and the only way to make it let go is by hitting either the Annoying Dog or its bitten Pin with another Pin.

Annoying Dog also has a 1/512 chance of being airlifted out of the field of play each turn. This counts as a ring-out. Note, however, that this airlift also lifts any Pin that Annoying Dog is currently affixed to.
Blurb:
A curious creature, or perhaps item. Often found fast asleep, it tends to cause chaos when awake.
Notes:
...it would be really funny for Annoying Dog to be the only animated Pin in the game, but at the same time, that does feel like a slightly silly move. That being said, it'd be cute if it's asleep when in your menu, but awake while in the field.

Job #021
Character Name: Cube
Character Origin: Geometry Dash (2013)

Geometry Dash itself is on the more iconic side, but I wouldn't think Cube would have the same problem of oversaturation as a character like Among Us' Crewmate - plus, we could take whatever direction we wanted with them, given they'd ostensibly be an original character. Beyond that, while Geometry Dash isn't ostensibly on the more combat-centric side, mechanics from across the series would lend very well to something like this - be they in the form of attacks utilising portal modifiers into rockets, UFOs, or robots, or even just simpler elements like gravity modifiers or placing hazards like spikes.

I just think this could be a silly but fun approach for the job. Even if I wasn't really exposed to it, Geometry Dash was (and still is!) undeniably a big deal in the mobile gaming space as a whole, let alone as an indie series. Oh, and it'll be on the easier side to draw, too. :troll:

JOB #21: Yolk (Leap Day)

1743923647315.png

Leap Day is a platforming game released by Nitrome in 2016. Players control a contestant (initially Yolk himself but more can be unlocked) who aim is to climb a tower that changes every day.

There's not a lot to say about Yolk: he's an egg-like muppet who collects fruits, has his eyes set on the golden cup and takes cool selfies.
1743926634813.png

Although Yolk's gameplay is limited to two actions (jumping and wall-sliding) in the first game, the sequel Super Leap Day gives him the ability to stop (!), as well as leaving an egg that acts as a checkpoint.

Most importantly, Yolk could represent Nitrome, one of the better-known retro-style flash and mobile game developers around. His game is filled with cameos and references to previous Nitrome games and he could carry them over to Scribble Scramble like he did in Indie Pogo. He also has quite a few items in his game to work with, as well as an alternate form that could serve as his Hyper Special. Being the star of the company's bigger mobile hits, he's grown to be something of a face for Nitrome's crossovers, and on top of that... well, look at his face:

This job should be done by between tomorrow and tuesday depending of how much nominations we have, but don't worry since this isn't vote results I'll do it myself.

I'll also nominate a character and music later btw.

EDIT: Here they are:

Additional Music:
  • Lace (Hollow Knight Silksong): A theme from the still unreleased Silksong, we don't know if the music will change after so many years, but it was rleeased some time ago so I think its a good option.
  • Scorching Back (Cave Story): With such an amount of great tunes, it was still lacking a theme related to well, the actual stage. This is "an" Egg Corridor theme so it works.
  • Forest Night Fever (Vampire Survivors): It was the first stage but it feels quite forgotten (maybe naturally, due its lack of a fighter to representate), but the Vampire Survivors ost is a complete bop and this might be one of its most iconic themes me thinks.
JOB 21 SUBMISSION
ASSASSIN (SOUL KNIGHT)
Soul Knight is a roguelite mobile game that is very similar to Enter the Gungeon, but in contrast to the later, it has a lot of characters each one with abilities exclusive of them. I think that the Assassin is the most fit one since its pretty much the face of the app most of the time. It can create shadow clones with Doppelganger, turn invisible and the unholy amount of weapons the game has at its disposition (thought likely will use mostly the Blood Blade that its his characteristic weapon).

Alright everyone, is time to vote! Remember that this time there will only be two winners, and you will only be voting for 3 characters instead of 5 like before.
Job 21: Don Quixote (Limbus Company)

View attachment 401119

Don Quixote is a playable character from a south korean game Limbus Company, made by Project Moon, she is a sinner from Limbus Company Bus Apartment

I could submit another characters as a Cookie Run character or Red from Angry Birds, but i think Don Quixote is a good choice for i submit, and she is popular

Jake (Subway Surfers)
Extremely popular game. Picturing something like the Inkling from Splatoon in terms of being able to tag the stage. He could also summon cars and trucks and would be a quick speedy fighter.

View attachment 401169

Leap Day is a platforming game released by Nitrome in 2016. Players control a contestant (initially Yolk himself but more can be unlocked) who aim is to climb a tower that changes every day.

There's not a lot to say about Yolk: he's an egg-like muppet who collects fruits, has his eyes set on the golden cup and takes cool selfies.View attachment 401171

He's just adorable!

I know we mostly have platforming characters but I still wanted to give him a shot.

Speaking of which, how long this job will take? Sorry if you mentioned it before, it must have slipped my mind.

Impostor (Among Us)
Among Us was a popular game during the Pandemic. This character would use guns and knives in its move set, as well as traveling through vents.

I fear that the submission by Qwerty UIOP Qwerty UIOP for the Zombie from PVZ will not be accepted, since it doesn't follow the guideline; Plants vs. Zombies released first on PC and MAC OS in 2009 and released on mobile till a year later. Sorry for not adressing this problem before to let you change your submission, I didn't noticed it till now. I will be sure to not overlook this sort of mistakes in the future.

The votations will be held till friday. Note that while the designed helpers can make the vote count, they can't close the votations, so if you vote after they announce the votes but I hadn't come to close the votations properly, you can still vote, at least for the rest of the day.

Now for our next jobs:
JOB #22
SUBMIT A STAGE FROM A GAME BEFORE 2009!
The indie scene truly exploded in the new 10's, but there are still a lot of great games before! For the moment we will try to represent one of them in the form of a stage. As a remind, stages DOESN'T deconfirm characters, you are more than fine submitting a stage and the later submitting a character from such game, so go wild!

JOB #23
SHOULD WE ADD BOSSES?
With something like a story mode, I guess its fair to think there it should be at least one boss, the question is, there it should be something more than the likely OG boss. Note that probably turning a character into a boss might deconfirm it as a character (this doesn't exactly needs to be the case, considering how such a thing as unlockable bosses is very common in fighting games, even Smash technically has Bowser and Ganon(dorf) as bosses). I will leave this as a discussion and whatever turns into the most popular option will be the lead. Try to go further than just saying that you agree or not and try to come with some ideas (in case you agree) or your reasons why we shouldn't (in case you disagree) or even think in more specific alternatives! Is all up to you.

Voting Round
  1. Yolk - Nitrome's a perfect pull for something like this, and I actually briefly considered a couple of Nitrome picks before settling on Cube. That point on us already having a lot of platformers is admittedly valid, but Yolk's a neat example of a character I think would make a neat addition regardless.
  2. Imposter - I know I mentioned "oversaturation" earlier, but the Imposter's still a great pick for this kind of thing. I'm sure they'd be a character who'd lend well to some interesting gameplay ideas... and actually, a silly idea occurs to me on that front; what if your specials change between an Imposter or Crewmate based on a secret "button select" when you select the character? Kind of playing into social sim elements... heh.
  3. Don Quixote - This one's an interesting pull, that I admittedly wasn't too familiar with at first, so I had to do some research into them. Beyond it generally just being neat to pull characters from studios all over the world, she's also from what looks like a pretty interesting game. That aside, the whole gimmick of shoes filled with blood that can turn into a blood horse, coupled with a jousting rod, seems like it'd be cool in a moveset.
(I'll get Jobs sorted soonish in this here post, though I'll note that I haven't had access to the Internet for the week for some reason or another, so it might take a hot minute to get that edited into this.)

Job #022
Ah, screw it. The idea I was originally going to propose felt a little too by-the-numbers, so let's get weird with it.

Stage Name: Pyramid
Stage Origin: Pyramid (Famicom, 1990)

Pyramid_-_Gameplay.png

Your first thought might be... why? There's actually some logic behind this. Firstly, I would argue that bootlegs and the like are actually an incredibly important part of the history of indie games that goes massively underdiscussed; aside from their role in creating ROM dumpers and the like (essential for preservation, which if not widely available, would possibly have led to genres like the MetroidVania not receiving the modern second look they have), bootlegs have also undeniably been a massive part of a lot of people's video game experiences that just... doesn't get represented anywhere. Couple that with most bootleg developers being on the smaller side and ostensibly themselves being a sort of precursor to the modern "indie studio", and I reckon there's space for bootleg representation here.

As for why Pyramid, I gathered a couple of more prominent choices ran into issues of either having licensed characters in them (like 7 Grand Dad) or sensitive subject matter that could cause problems of its own (like Hong Kong 97.) Pyramid also appears frequently on Famiclone hardware and on NES multi-carts, and I also think the desert theme and puzzle-game origin would make it stand out visually from the pack.

Quick note. From what I've been able to tell, Sachen were a small team at the time of the game's release, with "Thin Chen Enterprise", "Commin" and "Joy Van" (other registered companies that "merged" with them) all essentially being Tengen-styled offshoots of Sachen that maintained the same staff and equipment. I'm not sure this should disqualify them as an "indie developer", but I think the spirit is still at play - as their games were developed in-house.

When it comes to the stage itself, I'd keep things simple. My thought process is that the ground is made of sand, but the triangular tiles will slowly slide from the "back" of the stage to the "front", all with the Sphinx looking down over the stage as it happens. Those triangular tiles then function as platforms, which can be broken with an attack or by being launched into them. Simple, but effective.

Job #023
I'd be in favour of a boss... though, to be honest, I'd prefer it with two caveats; that there's only one or two bosses tops, and that they're also playable. I feel that part of the appeal of a boss is getting to unlock them as some crazy secret, even if that means they'd ultimately be nowhere close to tournament legal - so it's not like a boss would need to be fighter-sized, necessarily, or even balanced accordingly. Go wild with them, but playable status would be awesome.

JOB #21 VOTES:
  1. Assassin (Soul Knight): I had never heard of this game before, but it looks fun, and I really liked the design. I think they could have a fun moveset, on top of adding a lesser-known character to our roster.
  2. Impostor (Among Us): Among Us has an isometric perspective that makes it easy to imagine in a game like this.
  3. Yolk (Leap Day): Shameless self-vote.

JOB #22: Jungle (Spelunky, 2008)

1744182992268.png

Spelunky is an award-winning rogue-like made by Derek Yu where a spelunker ventures through a set of caves in search of treasure.

In this game, the second area of Spelunky would be featured as an arena. Similar to Spelunky, it has more verticality than most other arenas with trees and vines to climb on and spikes that players can push each other for some extra damage.

JOB #23
Short answer, yes.

Long answer, bosses would be a good way to add some extra content while being creative when adding some franchises or characters who wouldn't quite work as playable characters. Ideally, we can handle this like Smash and have a mix of bosses from major series, minor ones and maybe an original boss.

Given the nature of our game, I can see boss battles having a larger focus on dodging and making use of characters' unique movement options to weave through attack patterns and deal a finishing blow.

World of Goo
Based on the indie puzzle game of the same name. The stage takes place in a green field with hills, but one which has been taken over by goo. There are goo bridges and go you can get stuck in.

Yes to bosses, but only a small number.

Job 22: Scuttle Town (Shantae - 2002)

Maybe I'm jumping the gun by nominating this, but since stages don't rule out characters, I figure it couldn't hurt to get a Shantae stage in now since she seems pretty likely to be added at some point. Buildings and walls could serve as platforms/higher ground.

Salt Factory (Meat Boy)
It would have platforms of salt that deal damage to the players and saws that move around the stage.

Bosses? No, because our main inspiration is Sonic Battle, which has no bosses.
Uh, about that last part...
