Have you guys ever entered into a school talent show before? Perferably play a song with your band or something of that like?

Tell me about what happened, Im playing The Hellion/Electric Eye by Judas Priest, or Crazy Train Live by Ozzy Osbourne at the end of the year with my band.
I'd like to hear about what happened.

Here's links to the 2 songs we might cover, please leave me a suggestion.

The Hellion/Electric Eye - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TopkgGxGzQs
Crazy Train Live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8WkzXPWeC4

No, I didn't play in a band. I did, however, get a bunch of school materials (books, stage floor, desks, chair, etc.) and started playing them as bongos and drums. I think I did decent. I do plan on playing my guitar once school starts again however.

Lol, thats creative.

Did you play guitar at one point or another? I've been teaching myself since '03, and I've gone a long way [not bragging ^^]

They didnt have classes in our school, it was one of the worst ranked schools in my state. >_< Thank god im out. XD

Theres this other guy thats playing an acoustic song by Secondhand Serenade as well. I hope we're right after him, so we can do a face melter and make him look terrible. (i know him.. hes a jerk)

No, the drum thing was one or two years ago (can't remember). I've been playing electric guitar for about 6 years now. What I was saying was that I plan on playing something for a talent show if they have one this year.

Good luck though

I entered one b4 in the 9th grade but no band though sorry, all we did was tell jokes and it went pretty well because we got some great laughs, we got 3rd place so it was fun, no regrets.

Though I didn't my friend did, he played guitar and another one of my friends started break dancing on stage. Though they didn't win anything they look as though they had a great time doing it.

I wasn't SUPPOSED to be in it.

My school had a tradition where every year, five theater girls did their own twist of the Cell Block Tango, and make fun of 5 guys. I was just made fun of...

We did two talent shows, actually. We also did a PV Idol. (PV is the initials for my high school.) Though I didn't enter that either, I was the host! Student council ftw!

I saw a guy solve a Rubik's Cube in a few seconds at a Talent Show. That was fun to watch.

On topic, I only helped a friend in a Talent Show. He was doing a juggling act, but since many people don't really know how difficult it can be, I decided to help him. The first part was me throwing things in and him throwing them back kind of thing, but then I tried to juggle while he did fancy stuff. Basically, I went into it knowing I couldn't juggle but that I was helping a friend. It was fun because the crowd got into it, and were all cheering for me to actually catch one of the things lol. He was very gracious afterwards and I was glad to help him.

Oh man... Electric Eye is crazy... but then again, Crazy Train is crazy too :p...

I've played in two school talent shows... the first one, we played Dream On (Aerosmith) where my friend and I (the guitarists) traded off solos in the middle, making the song go for about 8 minutes... that was fun... especially when our singer went falsetto... there was a mix of laughs and wild applause

We also played Aces High (Iron Maiden), a much more upbeat song... we screwed up once after the solo (my friend forgot to finish), so we had to carry the solo out for a while longer... hurt my fingers like hell when we were done... but that was great... right now we're hoping to write some songs that we can showcase... stupid lyrics... they don't want to be written...

I like all the songs you're thinking about... it depends on the cohesiveness of your band and how well you can play each song... if you're competent at all the songs, I'd say Electric Eye just for the overall dramatic effect of the intro and the awesomeness of that song :p

I dressed up as Elvis and performed Blue Suede Shoes! I was 12, but it was still pretty cool.

I broke open the human beatbox for the school talent show last year. It was my second performance so I was pretty nervous, but thats what forums and rehearsals are for.

I would play in the talent show, but I would only play my cello and some concerto. However, everybody is a f*cking goth or death metal fans, and I would prob get boo-ed off the stage, or something.

Thats pretty cool what you guys did. I didnt think there would be hardly anyone that entered in a school show before, lol.

Seed- Nah, im sure there's other people that are like you. But, critics are jerks. So the goth and death metal fans wouldnt let you go easy >>

Yeah im really nervous even though its far away lol i really dont want to mess up during a solo or the like. How did you guys deal with it? I was on stage about 6 times before, but i get more nervous every time.

Convince yourself that every time you mess up, you can cover for it by sliding or quickly hammering on or pulling off... that's what I do every time I play a difficult solo (Especially the first solo from Cowboys from Hell, my fingers just don't hit the frets right)... to fake out your audience, have your head held eye level with them but look at the ground if you're nervous of the crowd... and HAVE FUN... so many people I've seen perform do worse than when I heard them the day before because they're so stiff...

Thanks for the advice bro. I can play solos without huge trouble, but when your nervous its a different story, you know? I'll definately keep that in mind.

Anyone else?

Hah it turned out great. We all already knew our instruments well and the songs were really easy to learn. For anyone trying to make a band, a lot of punk rock songs are really great starter songs just to get the "feel" of the band. If everyone is playing their best, it's easy to see what kind of energy the crowd will feel as opposed to a new band playing a really hard song that takes a while to learn. The players will be more concentrated on the song than the audience, which is a recipe for a messy show.

i was in a talent show once when i was in high school. my talent was doing impressions. i was doing my impression of a palm tree, when a hulking, 6 foot 9 french-canadian lumberjack chased me offstage with an axe. then, the net day in school, everybody made fun of me so i cried a lot.

at any rate, i'm sure yours will go much better than that. personally, i don't care much for that song. if i were you, i'd play a song more like this one:

warning! use of the word ***! proceed with extreme caution!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PVB7TqS9Gw
just give it a minute. also, that's steve albini playing the guitar.

however, seeing as you're in high school and probably not surrounded by a bunch of hipster musical snobs, i'm not sure if they'd appreciate it in all its glory.

Funny stuff there. XD
Ah, I might think about it. But my guitar is NOT going to sound like that, XD
But thanks for the opinion there, I needed someone to tell me something, haha.

I remember one talent show when another "band" borrowed my amp for their rehearsal. They tried to play Green Day - Brain Stew. It was terrible. There were two of them playing guitar, no drums, no bass and they were listening to the song with their mp3 players while playing it. They were desynched and out of tune.

Conclusion: Be prepared for a gig. Play in front of other people before even auditioning.

Me and A friend solved two rubiks cubes, and we had the maxxx unlimited song from DDR in the background. We dropped the rubiks cubes and like tossed them at each other, it was awesome.
