i'll think about it

lag on lcds is not in the "cables" or "wires" there is no native resolution on a cathode ray tube because it's essentially a bulb projecting the image as deep as the tv is at a certain angle

this is the analog signal

lcds require a digital signal to be specified in terms of 3 or four component colors, either rgb or cymb for each pixel to display correctly at each pixel. this is how a digital signal works.

when an analog signal enters through a wire, it must be changed for the display to function. thus, a 720p monitor would need a 480i signal upscaled to properly fit the resolution. that processing is what the lag is for the most part. on larger monitors, more upscaling is needed. thus more lag.

cables are not going to increase the processing power and speed of a monitor so no, this will not reduce lag, simply give you a way to input a signal.

the only way to truly minimize lag is to use a 480p lcd monitor, which don't exist except like the 7" ones i have for my portable tv in the car. otherwise, even if they did exist, they would be horribly blocky with large pixels. i experience pretty much 1-2 frames of lag on my lcd, but it's 7".

so in short. no. lcds are not viable for smash. ever.

crts. . . maybe. but likely not as well

That all make sense DJ Rome.

But can anyone clear of this myth of "gaming" monitors or "gamemode" that reduces the lag to a negligible amount on certain LCD.plasma/crysta whatever tvs?

"game" modes are just modes that do less processing, display functions to reduce inherent input lag. even with a digital signal, lcds experience input lag of a few ms, which is what is advertised. particularly with displays with more options, this reduces the input lag

well, game modes are for digital signals. analog signals such as those from gamecubes will still experience significant lag

Well... for me as a not-so-good player, I don't want to only have a one-stock chance against hungry box or someone that is better than me. I want to have a chance to COME BACK and maybe tilt the score... and I also want to be beat enough to see what I was messing up with... so that I can improve... Although 3 stocks would be fine I guess, I'd just be that more pumped. OH I ONLY HAVE 3 STOCKS OK

about the tv's... I don't have a lcd tv. I can only bring what I have. But like you said, I could probably buy a cheap cable.

IF they are better than you then you are better off with 1 stock. You have a better chance at getting lucky(not the fox player lol<3) and them dying first once than you killing him 4 times b4 he kills you.

A longer match, aka more stocks, will favor the better player. Its typically the player who makes less mistakes who wins and over a long match you will make many more mistakes than them, giving them better odds in winning the match, on top of being better.

Yeah, probably, but I don't go to tournaments to get lucky, sadly. I want to become better. : ]

But I didn't look at it that way, thanks. : D

何?
did a bit of research on it today.......lots of reviews floating on this
http://www.superufo.com/product_html/Playstation_3_Wii_PS3_VGA_Cable.html

pretty bad.

yea frames i saw many suggestions to getting a dedicated box so the conversion would be good. lowest I saw was like 60 and i dun even know if it could do multiple systems(some of these boxes look like they could)

argh.....CRTs are fullproof and also john proof. cant win'em all i guess
This seemed fishy to me when I saw the first post since VGA doesn't support audio... so why have RCA audio inputs in the first place on these things?

I'm kinda with Eggm here.

I don't really see the need to reduce 4 stocks to 3 stocks for tournaments. Its not the major reason for tournaments running late anyway.

I think 3 stocks in pools though is not a bad idea.

I like the idea of brawl and melee being separated as well. Or at least have days where only one is being run.

Its really annoying to grab someone thats playing pools in one game to have them move to another setup to play doubles or whatever in another.

ive played 3 stock matches in pools at tournaments and i really dont like it, im sure its just that i've grown accustomed to 4 but it really felt way too short

other fighting games run huge tournaments so fast because they just do like 256 man brackets at their majors, dont they? it would be easy to run a tournament that fast using that method but i dont think anybody really wants to do that

regional crews are cool, but there simply isnt enough time for them in major tournaments finishing in 2 days. fc tournaments were 3 days so there was tons of extra time, genesis fit them into a 3 day tournament but had to do only 1 round of pools to a 128 man bracket in a 300 person tournament due to sharing the scene with brawl, and the pounds have run ridiculously late the past two installments

brawl and melee really should be separated for the most part, the crossover crowd is really small and even in small tournaments people going back and forth delays tournaments a lot.

idk if anyone mentiioned it yet

but i think if you used RCA/VGA adapters, you'd need to also get RCA/stereo adapters with speakers ifyou wanna play with sound.

its not a big issue, but its worth putting in the op
