Hey guys,
I'm from Calgary but I'm working at the U of S for the summer (living in st. Andrew's college on campus.) Are you guys still having these tournaments? If so when/where's the next one, and does anyone have a controller I could borrow or know anywhere I can buy one in Saskatoon? I haven't played smash in a while and it'd be awesome to get to know some more people from Saskatoon. Hopefully I'll smash with someone here before I go back to Calgary. Hope to see you soon. Jeremy

Haha sorry Victor I'm just never in Red Deer or Edmonton. Does south Calgary even play smash anymore? I just checked the Alberta thread and no one from Calgary posts anymore. The last time I played with those guys was during Christmas break. You have my info so if you're ever in Calgary just contact me and we can smash, I do have a car you know.

I think something may be going on this Saturday DJT88. I'll contact the guys and let them know that you're interested in attending. I'm sorry to say there's not many of us participating. If you come, expect to see four to six people. If Rob ends up coming, we'll have Melee, Brawl, Brawl+, Third Strike, Guilty Gear and Capcom vs SNK.
I'll let you know about what's going on this weekend soon. Also, don't be surprised if we have short notice gatherings.

At the moment, Rob and I are re-vamping the thread. I can't tell you if there's going to be an event or not, but I can tell you where the lounge is.
It's hard to miss. There's signs at both entrances. It's near the bathrooms, and it's really hard to miss. It's huge.

(I'm not blaming you, but exactly what happened with you is why, nobody would contact/be able to get a hold of eachother anymore and nobody ever smashed, it ended up being just me levi and alex playing and nobody else would even try)

Levi knows as well as anyone that I don't play during the school year, I'm just way too busy. As soon as I was on my winter break I was smashing at Levi's place, although it's pretty inconvenient with him living in the south and me in the north.
I don't think I've ever talked to you before Venom Dream, are you in Calgary and if so where? I could probably smash with people in Calgary during the last week of summer. Does Levi still smash, I haven't been on the boards till recently, and I don't see anything from Calgary on the boards. Believe me it's not for lack of wanting to smash, it's just being busy with other things.
And what's wrong with Saskatchewan Llumys? As far as I can tell, for as long as I've been here (only a month lol), people here are great! Well lunch is over so I guess I'll talk to you guys later.

If you guys seriously banned Metaknight, we have to have a long discussion about the difference between our rules and the rules of the rest of the Brawl community in North America. I'm going to use a very quick example to show why we SHOULDN'T ban Metaknight:
EX:
Brawl Tournament A has Metaknight banned. Lots of people go. It's a fun tournament. We get to see how the other characters work without an incredibly gay character on the roster. More tournaments are held in that same area and Metaknight stays banned.
Brawl Tournament B, C and D all do NOT have Metaknight banned. Some people from Brawl Tournament A go, lose horribly to a bunch of **** Metaknights and will never know how they stack up against the rest of the Brawl community because they're playing an entirely different metagame.

Even if we agreed that he ruins the game, it sucks for people that want to go to bigger tournaments (Genesis anyone?) where Metaknight isn't banned.

It's kind of like a big "**** you" to that person that just isn't necessary. Besides, if we don't want to play against Metaknight, we always have Brawl+.

I, along with Rob, realize Brawl's meta game is based on beating Meta Knight. I have plenty of Meta Knight experience, as do Nate and you, Monty. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'm fine playing a Meta Knight. I still want him banned, though. I want the meta game to advance, and I don't think following everyone's bad example is a good idea. The only reason Meta Knight isn't banned is because M2K stepped in, and it's obvious he's biased. I think if Saskatchewan bans Meta Knight, we'll just be one step ahead of everyone else; it's a matter of time before Meta Knight is banned. Now, I know we don't have a big Meta Knight problem, considering the amount of people we have that play. It's not like we're banning Meta Knight in friendlies, and it's not like we're stopping our players from using Meta Knight or playing against him online. Contrary to popular belief, online is actually decent practice. I'm willing to have a long discussion as to why we shouldn't ban Meta Knight, because I've gone through this debate before. Any smart player with good spacing can play Meta Knight competently, and a competent Meta Knight shouldn't lose to anyone anywhere near their skill level. I know our community will grow in numbers this summer, and I think it'll be a good idea to get everyone ready for the meta game that is soon to come.

All I can really say now is that it's ****ty I won't get any more Metaknight tournament practice before ADAT2. And friendly/wifi practice =/= tournament practice.

Balanced Brawl isn't learning a new game, though. It's just the same physics, with a few characters getting different throws, a few characters getting damage and knockback nerfs and buffs, and a few stage changes.

Metaknight is ********, while that means maybe he should be banned for like, bracket play here and there... that doesn't mean he should be banned entirely, infact if you're going to cut him out of the equation for fun may as well cut out the rest of the top tiers. But that is only in the essence of fun (which brawl+ delivers in), when practicing for tournaments you guys should be completely metaknight healthy. Which reminds me, you guys are hitting up that alberta tournament late this month right? You guys better train up and **** some **** up without me..... Don't make me have to do it myself....
As for balanced brawl, I have no clue how in the world they got rid of falco/dedede chainthrows and kept ice climbers changeless.... that is beyond ****ing ********. An oversight like that leads me to be very skeptical about the codeset and people behind it...

I plan on showing up, but it will be past noon (will just be there to spectate and play some friendlies, if possible). Things always seem to get in the way when I plan something.

It depends on the day and the turnout. Lately, we've been Smashing from about 1:00 to 7:00.
I'll try to contact Monty, Rob and Cole. I'd rather not bring my bulky TV, but if worst comes to worst, I'll bring it. If anyone has a small TV they can possibly bring, that'd be greatly appreciated.
I don't need much help setting up, and I could bring an extra controller.
I'll be there around 12:30 to 1:00. It'd be nice if I had help carrying the TV. xD I'll be at the parking lot entrance if you want to help me with that.

Last night, I was talking to this Smasher who lives in Venezuela. I've been talking to him for a while, and he mentioned South America's largest tournament banned Meta, Snake, Olimar and Ice Climbers.
