Longest title ever.
And here we go, midweek and we get slogged with an update that’s going to make waves for weeks to come. Today we finally learned of the relationship between Samus and Zero Suit Samus, and how one becomes the other, with a Final Smash move to boot.

As has been said previously by Sakurai, Samus turns into Zero Suit Samus (Henceforth known as Zamus) under “certain conditions.” It was unclear as to whether this meant in non-Melee games (you beat the game with enough items collected and in a fast enough time, she took off her powersuit) or whether something in Brawl affects her (enough damage is given, the armor falls off, etc.) Now we know that it’s a result of her Final Smash.

Sakurai hints that this move does spectacular damage. “That weapon is extremely powerful. Her opponents’ damage meters skyrocket!”
I’m sure it does, however…

That’s how Zamus arrives on scene. It’s unknown if there’s any way other than this to be Zamus. There might be an option to do the reverse, start as Zamus, use a Final Smash and turn into Samus.
Oh, and if you thought that after becoming Zamus you’d seen the last of the armor? Think again.

Now, aside from the WOAH factor, this also leads to an interesting question. Will we ever see Zamus in a tournament? The only way that’ll ever happen is if Items, or at least Final Smashes are in the accepted rules. I for one am glad of this, because now there’s another valid argument for bringing items into the tournament scene. However it’s all for naught if Capsules and Crates can’t be turned off, or at least made not to explode.
