SamuraiPanda's Trailer Analysis

Another one of my trailer analysis threads. I'm so bored right now that I'm actually going to spend the 30 minutes it takes to break down these >2 minutes of trailer we have. I'll start with the Snake trailer from a little while ago.

I'm using times from the videos found on GameTrailers (screenshots take a long time, so I doubt I'll do them).

Snake: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25841.html
Sonic: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26202.html
Fall Press Conference: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26203.html

Snake Trailer

00:38 - Snake pulls out a detonator and there is an explosion. Likely his down smash after he plants the mine.

00:39 - A 4 kick badass aerial attack. Likely either his neutral A or forward A.

00:51 - Snake's grab (which turns the character around immediately) to his back throw.

00:55 - Note the lack of significant recovery time from Snake's aerial attack.

00:59 - His down smash where he plants a mine.

1:00 - Snake's taunt? And his box can be taken off, too. Nice little touch.

1:02 - Snake's down throw? I like how he lays Mario on the ground (so he probably can't tech like he normally can) leaving him open for combos perhaps.

1:05 - Snake throws his grenade into Wario's open mouth. Given that Wario eats the grenade, and that we've seen this attack via screenshots on the Dojo in the air as well, this is probably Wario's neutral B. Like the other Snake videos said, he can also use this attack to eat people and "the smell of garlic stays on you" so maybe it slows them down or adds some poison or something.

1:07 - Snake crawling. Hopefully they'll update about the crawling before the demo comes out next week.

Sonic

00:07 - Sonic's run can hurt people? And why is Mario falling into the foreground? Something tells me this isn't gameplay, its actually a cutscene, maybe its in the single player where Sonic and Mario meet.

00:11 - Sonic is bouncing in ball form on the ground. His down B in the air maybe?

00:15 - In what is probably his regular B or down B, Sonic is doing his famous rolling attack, which unlike Jigglypuff's roll, doesn't stop when it hits someone.

00:16 - Likely Sonic's neutral A combo.

00:20 - Sonic can roll forwards and backwards.

00:22 - Sonic's roll can also be tilted upwards, and he combos the hit with probably his Back A in the air. Note that he can still move in the air after doing the roll upwards.

00:25 - Sonic does what seems to be his Up B, where he bounces on a spring from his game, yet he still is able to do what looks like his up A in the air, and then a new fast fall (see http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=119920 for a rather interesting and seemingly sound theory which describes what Sonic is doing). We've seen this new fast fall technique before, Zero Suit Samus used it. So is it a new technique, or just a move these two characters share?

00:26 - Mario jumps down with FLUDD on his back, shoots it, then gets hit by Pit, yet he still has FLUDD on his back... Maybe he can move while charging? What other explanation could there be (and no, don't link me to the thread about alternate attacks)?

00:28 - Sonic does a throw on DK.

00:30 - Close up of Sonic's new fast fall technique.

00:33 - Sonic's possible down smash, looks similar to Mario's down smash.

00:39 - Sonic is doing his up A in the air again, followed by that fast fall thing (although he is very close to the ground). Whoever is playing with Sonic must really like that fast fall thing.

00:47 - Sonic is ****ing sweet.

Fall Press Conference

00:04 - Peach's forward B explodes in a bunch of hearts, quite girly. And Metaknight's forward B takes kirby from 83% to 111%.

00:05 - Peach's forward tilt from Melee returns.

00:09 - Zamus does what looks like a back A in the air while DK does his good old headbutt (up A) in the air.

00:10 - Fox does the Fox Illusion off the edge and grabs the smash ball (so it works like a star) and it ends up saving him.

00:15 - I think its called Kyogure or something. New pokeball pokemon.

00:16 - Torchic.

00:18 - Snorlax returns.

00:20 - Resetti actually hurts Samus when she lands on him. And Link up-tilts Mario, but Mario just slides on the ground.

** As Colbusman points out in this thread, "During the Mr. Resetti scene [in the Japanese trailer] you actually see Link hit the front of the screen, just like in melee!"

Also in the Japanese trailer at that point: Samus' Forward Smash from Melee returns.

00:36 - Its Mario against Petey instead of Kirby... Maybe Sakurai is just replaying this level with Mario?

00:38 - Pit does a weird little stab thingy.

00:44 - Yoshi's new taunt?

00:45 - Ice Climbers new taunt?

00:47 - Lucas' version of PK Flash?

00:49 - Ike being a badass.

00:53 - Both monkeys are taunting.

00:54 - Wario taunting? Could this confirm multiple taunts? Think back to the E3 trailer that starts off with Wario wiggling his butt at the screen like a taunt.

00:55 - Either Zelda is healing herself, or thats a taunt. And it seems Link is playing with Navi.

00:56 - Fox shoots his blaster (less recovery?) and Zamus' paralyzer bullet is much bigger than expected.

00:58 - Is this Peach's taunt? Does it cause characters to dance? We already know she has all 4 of her B attacks from Melee back, so this can't be an actual attack... Unless its a smash of some sort. For now, I'm just going to assume that this scene was "staged" to make it look like more than it really is.

00:59 - More taunts. Pit's looks pretty cool.

1:00 - More taunts.

And thats it. I know that while I was writing this, another in-depth analysis popped up, but I think our threads are different enough to merit posting mine as well.

EDIT: I just remembered something. Check out 00:26 of the press conference trailer, where we see the trophies. Try comparing Dixie's trophy to Diddy's trophy. Dixie has much less details for her model in comparison, so I assume that she can be deconfirmed.

hey panda, i found something cool in the fall conference video ONLY on the JAPANESE SITE!

During the Mr. Resetti scene, you actually see Link hit the front of the screen, just like in melee!

I'd like to point out you missed a confirmed Pokemon...

Goldeen can be seen in the bottom middle section of the stage in the Sonic Trailer with DK, Pit, Mario, and Sonic.

Goldeen ftw.

Where? I think you're confusing the discarded Spring Board for it.

Goldeen was already confirmed on the Dojo, anyway, with the pokéball update. :)

.. do we really need two of these threads? I respect your work, Panda, I really do, I've been a follower ever since the original blog translation over a year ago. But this feels redundant.

Great breakdown. I think that some of the solutions to puzzling parts of the clips are:

1. Team introductions (suggested by another member), and
2. Multiple taunts (suggested by... everyone).

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me who's following DK during the barrel-blasting scene.
I really can't tell who that is :p

I believe that the whole dancing Peach and Bowser thing is specific for the stage. It's the Smashville stage, and as stated before, there would be performances at certain times, so perhaps this is the characters' reaction to the performance; afterall, there ARE musical notes in the background. Although, it was said that the performance would be at 8:00 P.M. (or some other), but the stage is set in the daytime. May have been altered for that purpose, or my guess may be completely wrong, but it's certainly something to note.

We don't know her Down B yet. It might replace the turnip.

That sounds vaiable, but I discern that the new taunts are simply a different button, or an instage victory pose. i must say, Lucas looks rather clunky on the bottom of Shadow Moses during Yoshi's Final Smash.
Squirtle spazzes out during Waterfall.
Charizard and Ivysaur look delicious.
Donkey Kong's Conga Boob Drum is brilliant.
And Meta-Knight is God Tier for absolute freaking sure.

At first I thought it was Pit and Pichu (ugh). Colbusman pointed out to me in my dissection thread that it's a KO'd paratroopa.

Except.. I'm pretty sure that was on Yoshi's Island? I could double check...

I'm guessing that when peach sings and bowser dances, they're each doing their individual taunts. It was just staged to make it seem like bowser is dancing along.

IDEA:

Alot of people have been thinking that Peach's Final Smash has to do with her emotions from Super Princess Peach. One of these emotions was joy, where Peach would twirl and fly and be joyous while (please correct me if I'm wrong) little music notes float about.
Now the little dance she does with bowser has little notes afloat also. Not to mention that she is giggling with a huge smile on her face.

Conclusion: Infectious Joy-Peach's Final Smash?

Yeah, normally I avoid redundant threads like the plague... but I had written most of this, went to dinner, then came back to find that you had already written a thread. I didn't want to waste the time I spent, so I figured I'd wrap it up and post it anyways.

I actually think that these "Taunts" are winning poses.... either from winning a battle or completing a stage on Subspace Emissary

you beat me to it.

starting with the Ice Climbers update, we've seen characters doing what seem to be either new taunts or victory dances on the stage. I think Sakurai has gotten rid of the "winners circle" in which the losers clap for the victor after the battle, and this instead takes place on the stage itself.

If you don't believe me, watch Pikachu at the end of the Conference trailer. he does his ear-scratching victory dance, which we know isn't a taunt, and he's doing it on a stage.

Sonic Trailer, 0:38.

Note that Kirby's Final Cutter propels him slightly forward. Return to SSB64! =)

I'm going to have to disagree with both of those reasons for the reason below...

And that is why.

I think this is absolutely right. Ike, Lucas, Yoshi, maybe even the Ice Climbers. I think that entire scene is of characters right before their Final Smash, as they charge up. Ike throws his sword in the ground and starts powering up, Yoshi ends in the same position as he starts his Final Smash, what Lucas does doesn't seem like a taunt or an attack, anyways.

I think these are the moments before their Final Smash's.

^^That's a very good observation. The Yoshi picture is very telling. As for Ike, we don't know what his Final is, but it could lead to something. The thing that baffles me most is the scene with Peach and Bowser. Really, wtf is going on?

Did everyone hear Lucas' voice? It has a higher pitch than Kirby's.
