Come play Brawl with us, because we all know you have nothing better to do on Friday nights.

Brawl Singles
Fridays, 5:00 PM (First event scheduled for 2/29. Opportunites like this only come once every four years!)
Rutgers, Livingston Campus (NB/Piscataway)
Ernest A. Lynton Tower - South, Main Lounge
70 Joyce Kilmer Ave
Piscataway, NJ 08854-8040
http://maps.rutgers.edu/building.aspx?id=298

Brawl Singles Rules:
$5 entry
3 stock, 7 minutes
Randomly seeded double elimination bracket (ranked seeding may be implemented after a few events)
Matches are 2/3 games with 3/5 finals
Advanced Slob Picks (first stage agreed upon by players or random neutral with double blind characters if requested, then loser/winner/loser picks stage/character/character)
Dave's Stupid Rule (three different stages per match)

Prizes:
1st: Some reasonable percentage of the pot (60-80%?)
2nd: Some lesser but still reasonable percentage of the pot
3rd: If we play for 3rd, you'll get at least your entrance fee back
The pot will consist of all money collected minus a 0%-20%/low fixed amount house fee. This is still under discussion because house fees are lame, but NC1 is poor and greedy. On the plus side, the money (if any) would most likely go towards funding prizes for future events (namely Rutgers-sponsored ones where cash prizes aren't allowed.)

Stage list:

Random/Neutral: Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Island, Smashville(aka Animal Planet), Lylat Cruise
Random/Arguably Neutral: Luigi's Mansion, Pokémon Stadium 1, Castle Siege, Bridge of Eldin, Battleship Halberd, Shadow Moses Island
Counter-picks: Mario Circuit, Great Sea, Norfair, Frigate Orpheon, Pokémon Stadium 2, Distant Planet, PictoChat, Green Hill Zone, Electroplankton, Yoshi's Island (Melee), Corneria, Rainbow Ride, Green Greens, Brinstar
Banned: Mushroomy Kingdom, Rumble Falls, Spear Pillar (aka Pokémon Nights), Port Town Aero Dive, WarioWare, New Pork City, The Summit, Skyworld, 75m, Mario Bros., Flatzone 2, Hyrule Temple, Big Blue, Onett

We are New Crew 1, a pseudo-crew founded at Rutgers University. Currently consisting of ROT8, PRiDE, Hac, BoB and Matra, we formed when the dedicated PRiDE imported a Japanese Wii and copy of Brawl. After deciding that ROT8 & BoB's dorm room was too small, we moved downstairs to the basement lounge, and quickly realized that it was quite spacious, had a nice big screen and comfy chairs, and would be a decent spot to host tournaments - less cramped than gaming stores or someone's apartment, and less expensive than actually renting a space. So now we're attempting to jump-start the Brawl competitive scene with weekly gatherings.

Parking: You're not allowed to park in Rutgers lots without a permit. However, that hasn't stopped PRiDE (and surely many other individuals) who's been doing it all day every Friday for the past month without incident. Plus this is being held right around the time they tend to start caring even less about giving out tickets.
But if that bothers you, you can find a legal lot off-campus nearby, or pay for parking in New Brunswick near College Ave (or take the train or other public transportation there) and take an L or LX bus to practically the front door.

There's also the minor issue of needing somebody to open the door for you, but I'll be sitting there and/or people come and go often enough for you to slip in. Other than that, basic house rules apply: respect the space, respect the people there, etc. I don't want to be the first one in the history of Rutgers to have a party broken up by an RA, especially when there isn't even any alcohol.

The stage list is VERY tentative. We are more than open to discussion so long as you provide sound reasoning and present it in a well-formed manner. Also, we've read Montage's stage thread, and while the reasoning was sensible, we would still like to see as many legal stages as possible. So if you really think a stage should be banned, come do your broken tactics and win. You'll get money, and the entire community will know with 100% certainty that something needs to be done. Everybody wins!

Also, we have one Brawl and 2-3 TVs guaranteed. If anybody could contribute, that would be great.

While I don't expect anyone other than Rutgers students to come to this, it would be great if other people could attend. I'm tired of playing against Wolf and Yoshi (as this post was done by ROT8 and not PRiDE.... YOSHI! ) over and over again, and new faces are always welcome. If you have any questions, post here, or PM or call me at 201-983-8754. (But only after 9 PM on M-Th, please. Otherwise I'll be in work or at class and can't talk. Fridays are good though, especially if you're trying to get inside and there's nobody at the door.)

A PARKING REMINDER FOR INTERESTED ATTENDEES:

- The lot in between the Student Center/Towers and to the north is usually fair game (don't get in the one on the right), but be reminded that OFFICIALLY you can't park there freely until after 6 PM. Weekends don't matter at all. I've seen ticketers in the area between 11:00 am - 1:30 pm, and I myself have gotten one at around 11:50 am on a Friday. You've been warned. -

Hee...NC-1. Since we're lacking a 7, it could be like: "Not suitable for children under the age of 1." That'd be a cool motto. >.>

As for me, Wario or Pokémon Trainer? I still can't decide...I've yet to get too effective with either, and Ivysaur having a tether-recovery is a real buzzkill, 'specially now that other members are developing a good edge game against tethers.

Oh well. Only way to get better is to get beat up a lot, I guess.

Oh, and what happened to DOGG? He was there the very first night-morning-night with Sonic, and he plays more than BoB does too.

Why not use both? Maybe focus on one Pokemon at a time? I'd be nice enough to let you switch after deaths. Although if you could only pick one, I'd go with Wario. You wanted to play Jiggly in Melee, and his movement in the air is vaguely reminiscent of hers. Plus Wario's hilarious. Hell I might main him if I weren't so afraid of commitment.

And oh yea, he was there, wasn't he? He probably should be in. I think we made the initial roster based on who was more regularly available/there and he got skipped over. I was gonna repost the topic for next week so I could have immediate access for editing, so I'll stick him in then.

Sounds good, I have been playing brawl a nice amount. I hear dave is a beast not, a quick ride on the B bus is needed to see how true this is:)

lol, where did you hear that?

You guys should try to run Brawl doubles too :)
We did discuss that, actually, but with only one set up (so far) we'll be lucky to get through singles in a timely manner. If things go well, we'll definitely either add it or hold special doubles weeks.

You should run teams instead of singles, especially if you only have one set-up. Seriously. Teams is faster and more fun.

Kashif, we game?

You should have two set-ups. Keitaro, bring yours.

Edit: Some of those counterpicks are beyond ridiculous. I hope that nobody actually abuses the lack of competitive knowledge of the people directing this tournament and use those stages.

No problem. As previously stated this will be a singles tournament this week to see how things run. If all goes well, and when we get a hold of more systems, we will most certainly hold doubles. But to make up for a certain *cough* lacking of a singles tournament at a recent NJ tournament we are very interested in seeing what singles brawl is capable of.

See who ever is coming tonight!

You will not be able to finish singles before the morning with only two set-ups. You posted this on Smashboards, meaning a lot of people will show up. You can't possibly finish singles on time.

Just run doubles instead. You have to with the set-up shortage.

We are not running doubles. Period. Maybe next week. We want a singles tournament this week, and we're going to have one, even if it means dropping double elimination, 2/3, time limits, and/or stock count to ensure finishing at a reasonable time (we'd probably also drop the price.) If you are not fine with this, please, DO NOT COME.

At least for now, this isn't event isn't really about the tournament. It's about giving people the chance to experience the game at a relatively competitive level and against new people. (Honestly, I would be fine with this being just a "Hey let's invite loads of people over and sit around in Rotation mode for a few hours" but Pride insisted on formatting it as a tournament.) This week is also still very much a test run to see how well inviting loads of people over at once actually works out. Maybe in the future, if things go well today, this can become more regular, more controlled, and more serious. But for now, not so much.

it's a WEEKLY

that means every week

that means the most advance time they could've given is one week, and that would have meant canceling this week's tournament just so they could post it TOMORROW and have a full week

I did horrible in the tournament but then I beat everyone besides Keitaro and Spam that outplaced me in money matches after I actually had warm-up time so it's all good.

Fun times.

Wasn't my fault. Kashif and Rigel refused to leave Kashif's dorm before 5pm, meaning 0 warm-up and 0 time to adjust from Melee to Brawl.

Next time, if I don't have lots of warm-up, I'm not going to enter and shame myself with horrendous results that do not reflect my skill even slightly. Brawl should be actually out before my next Brawl tournament, so I might not have to worry about that.

Sounds like fun. You proved that Yoshi isn't balls, at least.
