Come play Brawl with us, because we all know you have nothing better to do on Friday nights.
Brawl Singles
Fridays, 5:00 PM (First event scheduled for 2/29. Opportunites like this only come once every four years!)
Rutgers, Livingston Campus (NB/Piscataway)
Ernest A. Lynton Tower - South, Main Lounge
70 Joyce Kilmer Ave
Piscataway, NJ 08854-8040
http://maps.rutgers.edu/building.aspx?id=298
Brawl Singles Rules:
$5 entry
3 stock, 7 minutes
Randomly seeded double elimination bracket (ranked seeding may be implemented after a few events)
Matches are 2/3 games with 3/5 finals
Advanced Slob Picks (first stage agreed upon by players or random neutral with double blind characters if requested, then loser/winner/loser picks stage/character/character)
Dave's Stupid Rule (three different stages per match)
Prizes:
1st: Some reasonable percentage of the pot (60-80%?)
2nd: Some lesser but still reasonable percentage of the pot
3rd: If we play for 3rd, you'll get at least your entrance fee back
The pot will consist of all money collected minus a 0%-20%/low fixed amount house fee. This is still under discussion because house fees are lame, but NC1 is poor and greedy. On the plus side, the money (if any) would most likely go towards funding prizes for future events (namely Rutgers-sponsored ones where cash prizes aren't allowed.)
Stage list:
Random/Neutral: Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Island, Smashville(aka Animal Planet), Lylat Cruise
Random/Arguably Neutral: Luigi's Mansion, Pokémon Stadium 1, Castle Siege, Bridge of Eldin, Battleship Halberd, Shadow Moses Island
Counter-picks: Mario Circuit, Great Sea, Norfair, Frigate Orpheon, Pokémon Stadium 2, Distant Planet, PictoChat, Green Hill Zone, Electroplankton, Yoshi's Island (Melee), Corneria, Rainbow Ride, Green Greens, Brinstar
Banned: Mushroomy Kingdom, Rumble Falls, Spear Pillar (aka Pokémon Nights), Port Town Aero Dive, WarioWare, New Pork City, The Summit, Skyworld, 75m, Mario Bros., Flatzone 2, Hyrule Temple, Big Blue, Onett
We are New Crew 1, a pseudo-crew founded at Rutgers University. Currently consisting of ROT8, PRiDE, Hac, BoB and Matra, we formed when the dedicated PRiDE imported a Japanese Wii and copy of Brawl. After deciding that ROT8 & BoB's dorm room was too small, we moved downstairs to the basement lounge, and quickly realized that it was quite spacious, had a nice big screen and comfy chairs, and would be a decent spot to host tournaments - less cramped than gaming stores or someone's apartment, and less expensive than actually renting a space. So now we're attempting to jump-start the Brawl competitive scene with weekly gatherings.
Parking: You're not allowed to park in Rutgers lots without a permit. However, that hasn't stopped PRiDE (and surely many other individuals) who's been doing it all day every Friday for the past month without incident. Plus this is being held right around the time they tend to start caring even less about giving out tickets.
But if that bothers you, you can find a legal lot off-campus nearby, or pay for parking in New Brunswick near College Ave (or take the train or other public transportation there) and take an L or LX bus to practically the front door.

There's also the minor issue of needing somebody to open the door for you, but I'll be sitting there and/or people come and go often enough for you to slip in. Other than that, basic house rules apply: respect the space, respect the people there, etc. I don't want to be the first one in the history of Rutgers to have a party broken up by an RA, especially when there isn't even any alcohol.
The stage list is VERY tentative. We are more than open to discussion so long as you provide sound reasoning and present it in a well-formed manner. Also, we've read Montage's stage thread, and while the reasoning was sensible, we would still like to see as many legal stages as possible. So if you really think a stage should be banned, come do your broken tactics and win. You'll get money, and the entire community will know with 100% certainty that something needs to be done. Everybody wins!
Also, we have one Brawl and 2-3 TVs guaranteed. If anybody could contribute, that would be great.
While I don't expect anyone other than Rutgers students to come to this, it would be great if other people could attend. I'm tired of playing against Wolf and Yoshi (as this post was done by ROT8 and not PRiDE.... YOSHI! ) over and over again, and new faces are always welcome. If you have any questions, post here, or PM or call me at 201-983-8754. (But only after 9 PM on M-Th, please. Otherwise I'll be in work or at class and can't talk. Fridays are good though, especially if you're trying to get inside and there's nobody at the door.)
