Is Rotom a legendary? Some people say he is beacause when you try to catch him he has legendary music in the backround and some say he isint beacause of his ability to breed but so can manaphy so id like to hear some opinions about this topic

I'd say it isn't a legendary, as most legendaries have base stat totals of around 600 or more. Rotom only has (lol) 440.

When manaphy breeds, it produces Phione(Base stats 80/80/80/80/80/80) which is pretty weak. When rotom breeds, it makes another Rotom. So if you bred manaphy, you'd get a box full of Phione, while if Rotom is bred, you'd get a box full of more Rotom.
Also Rotom's base stats are just pitiful(HP:50/Atk:50/Def:77/Sp.atk:95/Sp.Def:77/Speed:91) when compared to other legends.

Heatran is indeed a legendary. However, it can have a gender, and is the only legendary that can be either male of female. Latios is always male, and Latias and Cresselia are always female.

Rotom is not as it can breed, and all legendaries, except Manaphy, cannot breed.

Think of it like Snorlax, Eevee, Sudowoodo, Castform, etc...
They're not a legendary, but there are only a select few of them (or one, depending on which pokemon you're talking about).

I like the way he put it. Only difference is that those pokemon were all pretty good in one way or another. But then again...Rotom does have a very interesting type...and an equally interesting set of level up moves (substitute?!). But his stats are really too poor for any use in battle...and I don't think he can pass on substitute via chain breeding...

The only pokémon Rotom can breed with is Ditto. Chain breeding is impossible. :p

But I really don't think it would be that hard to pull off in battle. Good typing, 5 resistances and 3 immunities and 2 weaknesses. Also STAB on Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball, which is a pretty powerful combo. Hah, it also gets Trick. Can give a CurseLax Choice Scarf if you predict right, which shouldn't be hard since Return probably will be it's main move. :p Or it might Curse-up.
Of course, it's not that powerful, but it isn't that bad either.

Lolz, no. If you can use it well you're a pro. >_> No n00b knows how to use a Rotom well, you'll have to know what it can play against.

all right i can maybe see your point, but what pro would want to use rotom...
A player who'd like to show how much better he's then his opponent. ^_^ Any player who thinks the metagame is boring do either quit or build a cool team, with pokémons such as Rotom. You do have more skills if you beat a standard, boring team with a cool, n00bish team.

having strong pokemon does not make you a nOOb... maybe to be different you could use it, but for no other purpose...

Well actually there are Pokemon Tiers. Maybe you'll just use them in Border Line Tournies. Sometimes standard Tournies.

Timid, Sp Sweeper, Scarfing Rotom ftw!

ninjask use speed boost, baton pass to togekiss, use nasty plot, then baton pass to rotom (EVs on hp, defense, and special defense)

it COULD work......as long as no one uses whirlwind or roar

i used to use rotom.......but only till i had EV trained more than 6 other pokemon........then i just pc'ed him

I think the reason why Rotom is such a big joke is because Gengar>him so much in every single way.

Rotom is cute though.
And there's no need to discuss baton passing in this. You can baton pass to a Butterfree and pwn... er, well no, but you get my point.

you make a good point..........all i'm saying is that there's always a way to make good of a bad situation (ie : rotom's stats) thru baton passing, as an example..............and i also agree that gengar can completely dominate rotom with it's stats

if you perform the right combination........a lot of pokemon with horrible stats can suddenly become badass, lol

I never said that. I said that people who'd win all and everything with a OU standard team likes to prove how much better they are then other people by using pokémons such as Rotom. And Rotom is usable in the OU metagame,

* Counter Heracross easily. Actually counter the most Fighters. Kills an already damaged Lucario who'll Extremespeed you.
* With 3 immunities is Tricky fantastic on it. Easy to switch in and it can ruin for any stat uper by tricking a Choice Scarf. It will actually be the best pokémon with Trick.
* It's totally underestimated, so people might just not switch out against it. Gives you pretty good time to set-up.

I never said that it would be a OU pokémon either. But it'd work pretty well. It even works better than Gengar at some points.

Or this would probably work better. Winning with h4x and stalling is boring:

Rotom - Levitate
Timid@Choice Scarf
- Trick
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball

Heh, Discharge over Thunderbolt if you really wants.
Mainly, people will probably underestimate it. Let's take Snorlax.
*You predict Return/Curse.
*You switch in Rotom.
* You trick him with Choice Scarf. SNorlax will stay in the battle, because it'll use Crunch.
* You've ruined on of the opponents sweepers. Congrats.

Rotom for OU!!!11!1!

Why? Rotom can OHKO Gyarados with Thunderbolt. He's also immune to the many Earthquakes, Explosions and Close Combats.

Rotom FTW!!11!!!

Mismagius has better stats, it has levitate and its ghost. It just wont stand up against flying and steel type attacks like Rotom can. Although, Rotom does have that useful Trick move, that's the only thing that makes him a threat in competition.
I was thinking of including Rotom on my team, and I did some research and I found out Mismagius > Rotom
Mismagius Base stats...
