I'm getting bored with this pokemon stuff even if it is my ****ing favorite series. I am just caring less and less about Lucario as the days go by. Mega Lucario? God that mega evolution instilled no reaction to me at all. It's just Lucario with more random details >.> Lucario for Smash? You guys are kidding yourself if you actually expect Sakurai to completely overhaul his moveset. Lucario as a pokemon? I liked Lucario and the Mystery of Mew at the time. Especially those weird ass regirock sound effects but otherwise no.

Mewtwo, Lucario, and Both are three different set-ups.
Mewtwo fulfilled the "Special Pokemon Niche" in Melee. The intention was to replace Mewtwo with Both for Brawl, but sometime during development, Both was replaced with Lucario. In a sense, Mewtwo was inevitably replaced by Lucario for the role in Brawl.

I think/believe that "roles" matter, and I think/believe that Mewtwo was scrapped mid-development because he wasn't needed.

The first two posts I made regarding lucario today were supposed to be an inside joke with Noah because he and I had a 10-page feud over whether Lucario replacing Mewtwo was more likely to be the case, or absolutely not the case.

I do take issue with the false dichotomy between kirby and jigglypuff. I truly wish Meowth or Pit was chosen in ssb64 instead of Jigglypuff to make it so that problem was never there.

Again, time constrains, SSE, freaking Sanic. Nothing to do with one another

The first time I had a "lucario debate" on this forum, it was against the "absolute" that "Lucario didn't replace mewtwo, mewtwo got cut only because of time constraints," or etc, when it's definitely possible (and imo most likely, especially due to veteran vs new-comer-with-new-mechanic differences,) that Mewtwo was cut for niche reasons (or "niche" was a justification for cutting him as opposed to any of the other mandatory cuts assured due to time constraints.)

Semantics? No, that's not what's happening at all. Lucario wasn't intended to replace Mewtwo as they were planned alongside each other and Lucario doesn't take anything from Mewtwo and every similarity is skin deep. There is no reason to believe Lucario replaced Mewtwo in any sense of the word.

I don't agree with what you're saying because Mewtwo and Lucario share maybe...3 moves. Maybe less. Sure, they're both bipedal and such, but really, the fact that Mewtwo was rather far along, the SSE taking up to 70% of the development time, and the addition of Sonic, I'd say that it's fair to make the assumption they were going to be in the game together.

If the "niche" thing is such a problem, then why have Mario and Luigi? ZSS and Sheik? It's a claim that doesn't have nearly as much to work off of as the defending Mewtwo arguments do.
