Are the Mega evolutions considered 6th gen or are they tied to the generation of the base Pokemon?

People could argue either way, but frankly I fully expect Sakurai just to give Mewtwo his mega evolution in some form and say, "OK there we have our 6th gen happy gamefreak?" And this is why the all vets roster is by far the most likely for pokemon.
