Sakurai.... release the game so this speculating will be over. Or just put a caption over a totally irrelevant picture that says: "LLOYD IRVING WILL NOT BE IN THE GAME."
It'll never end...because when this game is released, speculation for the next game will begin and things will continue to grow more and more hectic until the fans eat themselves alive in the denial that there may not even be a next game.

Fire Emblem and EarthBound/Mother have more place in Smash than Tales ever will. Any Nintendo series, no matter how obscure or niche will always have priority over a 3rd party. This is a NINTENDO fighting game series, after all. Anyone with half a brain would know that.

Just because Namco Bandai is developing the game, it doesn't mean they'll get special treatment regarding 3rd party characters. We didn't get any Game Arts character in Brawl, so why would Namco get special treatment?

This is to say that it's not impossible to have Pac-Man, a Tales character or any other Namco Bandai character in the game. However, being developer of the game won't put them on a higher level than any other company. If Namco Bandai had received special treatment, we would have seen that before the Mega Man and Sonic reveals.

Just wondering...
1. How much do you think Yarn Yoshi will sell?
2. How much do you think Yarn Yoshi will sell if Nintendo decides that Sora Ltd. should promote his new design (by giving Yoshi a Yarn texture) in Smash 4?

We need dozens of GTA and COD characters in Smash.

Those series are better to Nintendo than most Nintendo series. Completely unrefutable.
Anyone who says otherwise are deluded. Because everyone knows I'm right.

Try to prove me wrong, you'll look stupid.

We need Halo for SSB4, because his game series is one of the best in the world.

Not only can he do everything Metroid can, but he can even crawl.

Not sure if both Halo and Metroid will be able to make it on the roster (as awesome as it might be), since the two badass robots might be clones of each other and Metroid might steal the spotlight.

If Halo doesn't make it in, I no buy game, and send death threats to Sakurai. Why does he have such a bias toward Nintendo characters?

1. Meh.
2. Meh.

I don't see anything big happening with Yarn Yoshi, to be completely honest.

That depends...what were the sales numbers of Kirby's Epic Yarn? By the way, if Yarn Yoshi's Island is anywhere near as happy as Kirby's Epic Yarn, I'm going to freaking DIE. Because in the words of Egoraptor..."OH GAWD...IT'S SO CUTE! KIRBY STOP IT! YOU'RE HURTING MY HEART!".

I think an alternate costume is just fine for Yoshi, although I personally wanted Yoshi to have an outfit referencing the Yoshi Kid from Paper Mario: TTYD.

BREAKDOWN WITH RONALD JAMES LEVINSON (YES. I USED MY NAME. NOW DD CAN CALL ME RONALD J. LEVINSON IF HE WANTED WHEN HE'S ANGRY):

1. So if it's behind Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, who are overall more important to VIDEO GAMES than Tales, then why wouldn't we get them?
They're not requested.
2. Yeah... they have more. So... what does that have to do with Nintendo? Regardless of who is on whose console, Fire Emblem is a Nintendo franchise.
Therefore, it has more priority than Tales. By the way, if we have seen Fire Emblem in 3 out of the 4 games, then why hasn't Lloyd made an appearance? I mean, clearly he is much more of an important character than *gasp* Marth and Ike.
I mean that it has a lot of video games because its a big-time series.
3. Entirely subjective. Anyone can have a great moveset and potential for one. If they can make a toy Robot a valid player, then I think anyone can be done.
But some are like better than others. tell me which sounds better - Takamaru's potential moveset or Starfy? Tell me.
4. Sales doesn't really matter that much. If it mattered, then we wouldn't have Earthbound, would we? No, I don't think so.
Earthbound's a special case because of Sakurai's raging hard-on for the series. I don't know why and I don't think we ever will.
5. Yeah, because spinoffs that have no or little value to Nintendo are really important, even moreso than the consistent popular Fire Emblem.
Again I only used that as an example of big-time video game series. If Fire Emblem or Earthbound were big enough they'd have their own spin-off series by now. They don't what does that tell you?

Protip: Don't use VGChartz
NA sales so far are almost 400k. I think it Japan it's done over 500K, so even without European sales it's almost sold 1m copies.
Yeah, I won't

I think the game HAS sold at least 1 million copies at this point

I don't either. I am just hoping that Nintendo will see this awesome promotional opportunity and take it. I really doubt they are competent enough. We might just get Wii U Zombies 2 or something.

What is it with TheDivineDeity and individuals with the middle-name initial 'J'?
its not just people with J as a middle initial.

But I'm really happy he's back.

So guys if you need to choose between all these retro reps, who will you choose? You can pick three choices.

.n_n.
From a while back. I would pick Star Man from pro wrestling (instead of Hayabusa), Donbe and Hikari, and Mach Rider. A lot of these aren't retro though. I would say anyone with a gamecube release isnt retro that takes out the Hayami's (WR: BS and 1080), Alexenadra and Odjin. Kururin debuted on the GBA. And Panel de Pon has has several release in Japan with the last two generations.

Retro maybe extends to N64 generation but definitely not GC generation.

I think a pro wrestler in Smash would be awesome.

Besides, what makes you think Namco won't get special treatment. of course they will. Despite what Sakurai says, they will get special treatment because that's how it goes. They're the ones working on developing the game, so why not? Are they going to work on Sakurai's game just for him to say they won't be getting any characters? Bull****. Don't come running back to me when Pacman or Lloyd get announced... I'll come running to you saying "yeah I TOLD YOU SO"... :smirk:

Yarn Yoshi, as it seems now, won't sell nearly as well as Kirby's Epic Yarn mainly due to how poorly the Wii U has been selling in general. Heck if we look at Wonderful 101, which some saw as a potential system seller, it did abysmal in terms of sales (Around 5000 units in its first week in Japan, though it did sell better in Europe).

I doubt we'll see a promotion in the yarn design because we're also getting Yoshi's New Island which features a normalized design. But even if they did use a texture for Yarn Yoshi I don't believe it will impact sales of Yarn Yoshi by a significant margin.

Despite what Sakurai says, they will get special treatment because that's how it goes.

So now even Sakurai's own words are irrelevant.

Not every game has spinoffs. For some series, it just doesn't work. How many Zelda spinoffs do you see? Not many, right?

Look, Lloyd is not a bad choice. In fact, he'd be a pretty cool character. HOWEVER. Sakurai all but confirmed that the selection process for third party characters is very important. From the last three we have seen, they have all been important, in fact mascots, of Konami, SEGA, and Capcom. Now, who else is left? For Namco, we have Pacman. Square Enix- Cloud or Sora? Neither of them are necessarily important enough. So no to SE.

Lloyd is not on that level of popularity and "legendary status" as Mario, Sonic, Snake, Megaman, or Pacman. If you want to argue, go ahead, but saying anything against that previous statement is incredibly stupid, even for someone as close-minded as you.

Implying that a series is big by having spin-offs...

Is this your best excuse? >_>

By the way, Fire Emblem is a great series. Just because it doesn't sell as much as other major RPG games, it doesn't mean it's not notable within Nintendo's history. Fire Emblem codified many elements of the Strategy RPG genre of which many series including Final Fantasy Tactics. The series is notable in Japan, where the SRPG genre is much more popular than in the West.

While they release the games outside of Japan, don't forget that Nintendo is first and foremost a JAPANESE company. Obviously, they will try to cater to the Japanese audience first. If you can't see that, then you clearly don't understand how things work.

I don't think we're reacting big enough to the fact that Divine Deity claimed that a statement from Sakurai isn't true.

Yes because that makes so much sense. Sakurai specifically said they won't be getting special treatment, which obviously means he meant the exact opposite! That makes so much sense!

Namco will still be getting money for working on the game, right? They don't need to have a character in the game, and even if they do get a character, the character won't be getting any sort of special treatment.

I am actually with DivineDeity. Namco will have some special treatment regardless of what Sakurai said. I don't think that means two Namco reps though. I think that means... Pac-Man! He is like Batman... without the bats... or the shape... or the bravery... or the popularity... or anything!

No. They won't. That will be the stupidest move Sakurai ever made if he did that. Sakurai literally said, Namco will not get special treatment. Getting Pacman makes sense, but two? No. That is pure bull****. Pure. Utter. Bull. ****.
