that's... not really a fair comparison, considering that there are at least seven mega man series.
mega man in smash is "the" mega man.

And yet he's based on one series. We're not comparing the series, we're comparing that Mega Man is based off his NES series, so his relevant self isn't really a part of it. So why does it matter for Bomberman or Pac-Man?

you're right, Pac-Man is nowhere near as washed up as Bomberman

Ghostly Adventures hadn't come out yet, and Pac-Man World sold quite a bit, actually.
The only World that didn't do that great was World 3.

Bomberman Land and others sold well too.

true. but Pac-Man can ride on the fact that he hails from one of the most acclaimed arcade titles out there cause regardless his name alone sells games. Bomberman... not so much.
besides, it's not fair to say a series is washed up when they still have new games coming out and a tie in cartoon as well.

EDIT: And even if Namco wasn't working on Smash, that still wouldn't make Bomberman more likely.
All it would mean is that we would probably get neither.

Bomberman is not a bad character, and the games are good. But comparing him to Pac Man, THE world's most recognized video game icon, is absurd, regardless of how much you dislike the character.
Seriously, I challenge you to go outside and ask random people who Pac Man is, and then who Bomber Man is, and keep a tally.

Pac-Man singlehandedly invented the idea of mascots in gaming. You know, mascots like Mario, Link, Sonic and so on. Smash Bros. could even be called a mascot fighter, for lack of a better name for it. Before Pac-Man, there were no original characters in gaming - only generic avatars, cars, spaceships and figure-less paddles/squares.

Name one accomplishment of Bomberman's that even comes close to doing what Pac-Man did.

One is a character no longer popular and no longer receiving games with a company that doesn't care about him atm.

The other is the mascot of the company working on Smash, who is still receiving games, and who the company is going to start marketing very frequently if they haven't already due to his upcoming games and TV show. And this character makes frequent crossover appearances with Nintendo's characters, including one this year.

They are in VERY different leagues and VERY different situations. Denying such is blatant bias. And this comes from someone who would LOVE to see Bomberman included and could care less about Pac-Man.

But Snake was the 1st 3rd party character we've had and is requested by Sakarai's close friend while Megaman and Sonic are more requested.

They will probably still have Buutwo, but probably as a Final Smash now.

Since we we started talking about Mario characters yesterday.........I've come up with a theory that may prove Paper Mario to be a likely character.

There were several trophies of Paper Mario characters, some that weren't even just personas of pre-existing Mario characters. This is similar to how Toon Link got a lot of Toon trophies.............

Saying that Bomberman is less popular than Sonic, Megaman, or Snake is not underrating. It is rating. This has been stated many times to the point that you're probably sick of it, but you need to understand this. Bomberman is not popular enough to be included as a third-party character is Smash Bros without some special circumstance that we can't predict coming into play (but you're not arguing on the grounds of a special circumstance happening). He simply isn't requested enough. It's as simple as that. Sure, he may have requests. Nobody is saying that he has zero support. He just doesn't have enough. It's one hurdle, but it's a really really really big one that is understandable that he wouldn't be able to overcome. And you need to understand that. This is coming from someone who actually likes Bomberman and is indifferent towards Pac-Man.
I'm sorry if I'm coming off as hostile, I don't mean to if I do.

That's really the sad thing about this argument.

One of my greatest memories in gaming as a whole is sitting down with friends and having bomberman matches. Of the great library in the GBA, one of my favorite games was always that Bomberman game when you roamed an open world and got pets and bomb upgrades ... it's just a fantastic games, and I'd take Bomberman over Pac Man any day.

But denying the reality of it is just silly, and that reality is that Pac Man deserves to be in this game much more, and is also much more likely.

It's arguable. Personally I feel we'll just get Sonic, Mega Man and one other third party. Considering that, I find Pac Man, Snake and Bomberman all in direct competition, and for me at least, the winner in that contest is certainly Pac Man.

Idea; each character gets a "power up" form (and some, like Bowser and Wario, who had Final Smashes like that, get new Final Smashes while their old ones become their power-up forms) through a special gimmick.

So, we get stuff like:

Giga Mac
Beast Ganon
Sacred Treasures Pit
Dreamy Luigi
Fierce Deity Link
etc.
